FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts in Widnes for Qualifying Companies

FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts provide the financial reporting framework for companies in Widnes that qualify for the UK micro-entities regime and choose to apply it. Under FRS 105, a qualifying micro-entity can prepare simpler financial statements than those required under larger reporting frameworks, with reduced disclosure and a format suited to straightforward businesses. Professional preparation helps to make sure those accounts are put together appropriately for your company’s particular circumstances, from the way turnover, assets and liabilities are recognised through to the presentation of the balance sheet and the supporting notes. If your Widnes company is considering FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts, we can review your records, discuss whether the micro-entities regime looks suitable, and prepare the financial statements on that basis. We can also handle the Companies House filing, while keeping the separate Corporation Tax position — including any CT600 — clearly distinguished from the accounts themselves.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

─── FRS 105 EXPLAINED

FRS 105 Explained: The Reporting Framework Behind Micro-Entity Accounts

FRS 105 is the UK financial reporting standard written specifically for companies that qualify as micro-entities. In plain terms, it is a simplified accounting framework: instead of the longer, more detailed financial statements that larger companies produce, a micro-entity applying FRS 105 prepares a shorter balance sheet, a simpler profit and loss account and a limited set of notes. The standard sits alongside the UK micro-entities regime — a company that meets the relevant size conditions may choose to apply that regime, and FRS 105 is the accounting standard that applies when it does. Choosing the micro-entities regime is a decision, not an automatic outcome, and it needs to suit the company’s circumstances and its users, including lenders and HMRC where relevant. Once the regime is chosen for a qualifying company, FRS 105 shapes how the financial statements are prepared and what is disclosed, which is why getting the framework right from the outset matters for Widnes businesses preparing their annual accounts.

Who Can Use FRS 105 in the UK?

FRS 105 is available to UK companies that qualify for the micro-entities regime and choose to apply it — the two elements go together. For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, qualification generally means meeting at least 2 of the 3 applicable size conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees. Alongside those size conditions, the regime comes with its own rules and exclusions, and certain companies are kept out of it altogether, so meeting the thresholds does not by itself guarantee that FRS 105 can be used. It is also worth remembering that qualifying is not the same as being required: a company that qualifies may still choose a different framework if that suits its users better. For companies in Widnes, the practical answer usually comes from looking at the accounts, the company’s structure and what the accounts need to do, then confirming whether the micro-entities regime and FRS 105 are the right fit.

A company generally needs to meet at least 2 of these 3 conditions.

─── What We Review

Everything Your Micro-Entity Company Is Required to Get Right

Most compliance problems are not deliberate. They come from a missed deadline, an accounts template that no longer matches FRS 105, or dividends taken without the paperwork to support them. Our review covers each area in turn and reports back in plain English.

FRS 105 Balance Sheet

A statutory balance sheet prepared to the FRS 105 format, using the reduced disclosure the micro-entities regime allows.

Profit & Loss Account

A profit and loss account prepared for your own records and for your Corporation Tax computation, without public filing.

Required Notes & Disclosures

Preparation of the notes and disclosures required for the company's accounts under the applicable reporting requirements.

Corporation Tax Support

Professionally Prepared FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts with Accurate Financial Reporting

Preparing FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts properly starts with good records. We work from your company’s bookkeeping, bank information, invoices, expense details and asset records to build a set of FRS 105 financial statements that reflects your trading position and the applicable reporting requirements for the micro-entities regime. That means attention to how items are recognised and measured under FRS 105, how the balance sheet is presented, and what the required notes should say. It is also important to keep the different obligations separate: the financial statements and their Companies House filing are one matter, while Corporation Tax — usually reported on a CT600 — is a separate submission to HMRC, and a Confirmation Statement is a different filing again. Preparing accounts based on your financial records and the relevant rules supports accurate financial reporting, but it does not amount to a guarantee of any particular filing outcome, and it does not mean Companies House or HMRC has reviewed or approved the figures.

FRS 105 is the UK accounting standard for micro-entities. It sets out a simplified basis for preparing financial statements, with a shorter balance sheet, a simpler profit and loss account and reduced disclosure compared with the frameworks used by larger companies. It applies to a company that qualifies for the micro-entities regime and chooses to use it.

FRS 105 is intended for companies that qualify for the UK micro-entities regime and decide to apply it. Qualification depends on the size conditions and on the other eligibility rules and exclusions that apply, so meeting the size test alone does not automatically mean a company can — or should — use FRS 105. Some companies are excluded from the regime regardless of their size.

For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least 2 of the 3 applicable size conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees. Other rules and exclusions can still apply, so it is worth checking your company's specific position rather than assuming the size conditions alone settle the question.

No. Qualifying for the micro-entities regime does not force a company to apply it. The regime is an available option, and FRS 105 applies when that option is chosen. Some qualifying companies prefer a different framework because of what their lenders, investors or other users of the accounts need to see, so the choice is worth considering carefully each year.

Both are UK financial reporting standards, but they are aimed at different sizes of company. FRS 105 is the micro-entities standard and allows simpler statements with less disclosure. FRS 102 is used by a much wider range of companies and generally requires fuller recognition, measurement and disclosure — including areas such as deferred tax and certain financial instruments that FRS 105 does not deal with in the same way. Moving between the two can affect the numbers presented, so the change is best planned rather than left to the last minute.

A company that prepares FRS 105 accounts will normally need to file accounts with Companies House for its financial year, and the filing can be made on the micro-entity basis where the company qualifies and has chosen that regime. The preparation of the financial statements and the act of filing are separate steps, and the accounts filed are not the same thing as a Corporation Tax Return or a Confirmation Statement.

Yes. FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts are the company's financial statements, prepared under the micro-entities accounting framework and generally filed with Companies House. A CT600 is a separate Corporation Tax Return submitted to HMRC, using figures that are usually derived from the accounts but adjusted for tax purposes. Preparing one does not discharge the obligation to deal with the other, so both need to be on the radar.

In practice we usually need your bookkeeping or accounting records for the period, bank and credit card statements, sales and purchase information, details of any assets bought or sold, stock or work in progress where relevant, loan and lease agreements, and payroll information if you employ staff. It also helps to know your year end, your previous accounts if you have them, and whether anything significant happened during the year such as a change in activity or a new source of finance.

The size thresholds for micro-entities have been updated for accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, and Companies House has been moving towards filing accounts through compatible software rather than by uploading a document. Because these changes can affect both whether you qualify and how you file, it is worth checking the current position before your next set of accounts is due rather than relying on how things were done in previous years.
