FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts in Farnborough

FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts in Farnborough are prepared under the UK financial reporting framework designed for qualifying companies that choose to apply the micro-entities regime. In practice, that means simpler, shorter financial statements with reduced disclosure, built around the specific recognition and measurement rules of FRS 105 rather than the fuller requirements of other standards. Professional preparation helps ensure the accounts reflect your company’s actual circumstances — its income, costs, assets, liabilities and the way it is structured and run — and that they are presented appropriately for the period in question. It also gives you a clear point of contact if questions arise about how a transaction should be treated or what needs to sit in the notes. It is worth stressing that FRS 105 is not automatic: your company must qualify for the micro-entities regime and then choose to apply it. We can review your position, confirm which regime fits and prepare FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts that are consistent with the records you provide.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

─── FRS 105 EXPLAINED

FRS 105 Explained: What the Micro-Entities Regime Actually Means

FRS 105 is the UK accounting standard written specifically for micro-entities — the smallest companies in the UK reporting landscape. It forms part of the UK GAAP suite and is designed to reduce the reporting burden by allowing a simpler balance sheet, a simpler profit and loss account and far fewer notes than a larger company would prepare. Under FRS 105, several measurement options available elsewhere are withdrawn: there is no revaluation or fair value accounting, and deferred tax is not recognised. The standard connects directly to the micro-entities regime. Qualifying companies are not forced into it — the regime is an available choice — but where a company does choose the micro-entities regime, FRS 105 is the standard that applies. Micro-entity accounts prepared on that basis are generally presumed to give a true and fair view, subject to the relevant rules. For many owner-managed businesses in Farnborough, FRS 105 keeps the numbers clear and the accounts focused on the essentials: what the company owns, what it owes and what it earned.

Who Can Use FRS 105 in the UK? Qualifying for the Micro-Entities Regime

FRS 105 is available to companies that qualify for the UK micro-entities regime and choose to apply it — it is an option for qualifying companies rather than a default. The size test is the natural starting point. For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least 2 of 3 applicable conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees. Meeting 2 of the 3 conditions is the usual benchmark, but it is subject to the relevant rules and exclusions, and other eligibility tests can affect whether the regime is open to you. Certain types of undertaking are excluded, and group structures or earlier periods can change the analysis. That is why size alone should never be treated as a guaranteed answer. For companies in Farnborough and the surrounding area, we can review your figures, structure and reporting history, then advise on whether FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts look appropriate for your next set of financial statements.

─── What We Review

Everything Your Micro-Entity Company Is Required to Get Right

Most compliance problems are not deliberate. They come from a missed deadline, an accounts template that no longer matches FRS 105, or dividends taken without the paperwork to support them. Our review covers each area in turn and reports back in plain English.

FRS 105 Balance Sheet

A statutory balance sheet prepared to the FRS 105 format, using the reduced disclosure the micro-entities regime allows.

Accurate FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts Prepared by Qualified Accountants in Farnborough

Preparing FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts properly starts with your underlying financial records — bookkeeping, bank transactions, sales and purchase invoices, payroll information, loan movements and asset purchases. From there, the accounts are built to reflect the company’s position in line with FRS 105 and the applicable reporting requirements, including the reduced disclosure that the micro-entities regime permits. The statutory financial statements prepared for the company and its members are one piece of the picture; filing those accounts with Companies House is a separate step, and Corporation Tax is separate again. A CT600 Corporation Tax Return is submitted to HMRC and is not the same document as FRS 105 accounts, even though both draw on the same figures and the tax computation often starts from the accounts. We prepare accounts based on the information you provide and discuss any points where judgement or further detail is needed. Nothing here amounts to a guarantee of acceptance by any authority, but the aim is always accurate, well-supported financial reporting.

FRS 105 is the UK financial reporting standard for micro-entities. It sits within the UK GAAP framework and allows a qualifying company that has chosen the micro-entities regime to prepare a simplified balance sheet, a simplified profit and loss account and a much shorter set of notes than would otherwise be required. Several measurement options available under other standards are not permitted under FRS 105, including revaluation of fixed assets, fair value accounting and the recognition of deferred tax. The result is a leaner set of financial statements that still presents the company's position and performance.

FRS 105 is intended for companies that both qualify for the micro-entities regime and choose to apply it. Size is the starting point, but qualifying is not simply a matter of being small. Other eligibility rules and exclusions can apply — for example, certain types of undertaking are not eligible, and group structures or the company's history can affect the position. That is why it is worth checking your specific circumstances rather than assuming the regime is available. If your company does qualify and the regime suits it, FRS 105 is the standard that would be used.

No. The micro-entities regime is an available accounting regime, not a compulsory one. A company that meets the size conditions is not automatically required to use it, and using it does not happen by default — the regime has to be chosen. If a qualifying company chooses not to apply the micro-entities regime, it would typically report under a different UK GAAP standard, such as FRS 102, where it meets the relevant conditions. Many owner-managed companies choose the micro-entities route for its simplicity, but the decision should suit the business and its reporting needs.

For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least 2 of the following 3 conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees. Meeting 2 of the 3 is the usual test, but it is subject to the relevant rules and exclusions, and other eligibility considerations can apply. So the size conditions are an important part of the picture, but they are not the whole picture — we can look at your figures and circumstances to work out where you stand.

FRS 102 is the fuller UK GAAP standard used by many small and medium-sized companies, and it offers a wider range of accounting policies. FRS 105 is a separate, more streamlined standard written specifically for micro-entities. Under FRS 105, the balance sheet and profit and loss account are presented in a simpler format, the notes are heavily reduced, and accounting options such as revaluation, fair value measurement and deferred tax recognition are withdrawn. In short, FRS 105 trades flexibility for simplicity — which suits many micro-entities, but is not the right answer for every company.

Statutory accounts for a limited company are generally filed with Companies House, and micro-entity accounts prepared under FRS 105 can be filed there. What is filed at Companies House may not be identical to the full accounts prepared for the company's members, because the micro-entities regime allows a simplified filing. Filing accounts at Companies House is a separate process from dealing with HMRC. Companies House filing requirements for small and micro-entity accounts are also changing over time, including a move towards filing through software and the removal of some simplified filing options, so it is worth checking the current position before you file.

Yes — they are two different things. FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts are the company's statutory financial statements, prepared under the micro-entities regime. A CT600 is a Corporation Tax Return submitted to HMRC to report the company's taxable profit and calculate the tax due. The tax return usually starts from the figures in the accounts, but then applies tax-specific adjustments, such as disallowable expenditure and capital allowances, which do not appear in the accounts themselves. Preparing the accounts and preparing the CT600 are therefore separate pieces of work, even though they share the same underlying records.

The more complete your records, the smoother the process. Typically we would ask for bookkeeping or accounting records covering the period, bank and credit card statements, sales and purchase invoices, payroll information including the number of employees, details of any loans or director's loan movements, records of assets bought or sold, and any stock or work-in-progress details. Previous accounts can also help with comparatives and consistency. If your records are incomplete or partly held in spreadsheets, that is not a barrier — tell us what you have, and we can explain what else may be needed to pull the accounts together.
