First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Wigston Leicester — Professional Preparation and Filing Support

Incorporating a limited company is only the beginning of the compliance calendar, and the first set of statutory accounts is often the point where directors realise how much detail sits behind the numbers. First Year Accounts for Limited Company work means preparing accounts for the company’s initial accounting period — from incorporation, or from the start of the period set by the accounting reference date, through to the first accounting reference date — using accurate accounting records and delivering them to Companies House where required. If you are a director in Wigston Leicester running a newly incorporated company, a contractor operating through your own limited company, or a startup that has not yet begun trading, professional support can help you gather the right records, understand which reporting framework applies to you and work through the filing step by step. A Corporation Tax Return, such as a CT600, is a separate requirement submitted to HMRC where applicable, and filing accounts with Companies House does not do that for you. We can help you keep both strands of first-year compliance clear and properly documented.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

Your first filing timeline

Incorporation

Your first filing timeline depends on your company's incorporation date and accounting reference date.

Accounting reference date

First accounts due

Normally 21 months after incorporation at Companies House.

First CT600 due

12 months after the end of the accounting period, with tax due earlier.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company?

First-year accounts are the first set of annual statutory accounts a limited company prepares for its initial accounting period. That period normally starts on the date of incorporation and runs to the company’s first accounting reference date, which is the date Companies House sets when the company is formed. Many companies then file accounts for that period to Companies House, alongside a balance sheet and, where the applicable reporting framework requires it, a profit and loss account, together with the supporting notes. The length of that first period can vary, and the date the accounts are due follows from the accounting reference date and the applicable Companies House requirements, so two newly incorporated companies are not always working to the same timetable. A first accounting period is not optional simply because the company is new. Directors remain responsible for keeping adequate accounting records and for making sure the company meets its filing obligations, even where activity has been limited. Where a company has had few or no significant accounting transactions, its reporting position depends on its own circumstances and the applicable rules rather than being automatically treated as dormant. Where a company qualifies, it may be able to use the micro-entity framework, and FRS 105 is the financial reporting standard that applies to qualifying entities using that framework. Eligibility has to be assessed against the company’s circumstances and the requirements for the relevant accounting period — not every newly incorporated company qualifies, and low turnover alone does not settle the question. Accounts prepared for Companies House are also not the same thing as a Corporation Tax Return. A CT600 is submitted to HMRC separately where applicable, and a confirmation statement is a further, distinct filing that keeps the company’s registered information up to date. Directors in Wigston Leicester often find it helpful to map out all three early on, so that preparing the statutory accounts, reporting the company’s tax position and confirming Companies House details are treated as separate tasks with separate deadlines and destinations.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Annual Turnover of £1 Million or less. (£632,000 previously)

Balance Sheet

Balance sheet total of £500,000 or less.(£316,000 previously)

First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Wigston Leicester — Get the Preparation Right from the Start

The first year of trading or incorporation is usually the point where directors feel least certain about what is actually expected of them. Which accounting records matter, which reporting framework fits the company, how the first accounting period runs and what has to be sent to Companies House — these are practical questions, and getting them wrong early tends to create avoidable work later. Micro Entity Accounts provides professional support with preparing first-year statutory accounts from your accounting records and with the Companies House filing where required, while making it clear that any Corporation Tax Return or CT600 is a separate submission to HMRC. If you are unsure what your company’s first accounts should look like, speaking to someone who works with newly incorporated limited companies every day is a straightforward way to reduce that uncertainty before the period closes.

First-year accounts are the first set of annual statutory accounts a limited company prepares for its initial accounting period. They normally cover the period from incorporation to the company's first accounting reference date, and they are prepared from the company's accounting records. Depending on the reporting framework that applies, the accounts typically include a balance sheet, notes, and a profit and loss account where required, along with the directors' responsibilities and approval details. They are a statutory filing rather than an optional exercise, and they are separate from a Corporation Tax Return.

The due date depends on the company's accounting reference date, the length of the first accounting period and the applicable Companies House requirements. First periods are sometimes longer or shorter than the standard twelve months, so the deadline is not automatically the same for every newly incorporated company. The most reliable approach is to check the company's own accounting reference date and filing obligations rather than assuming a particular date. We can help you confirm how the timetable applies to your company in Wigston Leicester and build the preparation around it.

It depends on what the company has done during the period. Common records include bank transactions and statements, sales and income records, purchase invoices and business expenses, asset purchases, share capital information, director transactions or loans, and any payroll or VAT records where those apply. Companies that have not begun trading may have very little to provide, while those with more activity will need fuller records. Whatever the level of activity, the accounts have to be built from accurate accounting records, which is why keeping them organised from the start saves time later.

In most cases a limited company will need to prepare statutory accounts and deliver them to Companies House where required, even if it has only recently been incorporated. Filing accounts with Companies House is a different process from submitting a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 to HMRC, and doing one does not complete the other. Companies House receives and registers the accounts; it does not prepare them and does not approve them professionally or regulatorily. Directors remain responsible for ensuring the company's obligations are met, whether or not an accountant prepares the figures.

No. Statutory accounts are the company's annual accounts, generally delivered to Companies House where required. A CT600 is a Corporation Tax Return submitted to HMRC where applicable, and it deals with the company's tax position rather than its Companies House filing. The two are connected in the sense that the accounting information behind the accounts is often used when working out the tax position, but they are prepared for different purposes, sent to different bodies and governed by different rules. A company's first Corporation Tax accounting period and its statutory accounts period may not necessarily be identical.

Some newly incorporated companies may qualify for the micro-entity framework if they meet the applicable eligibility requirements for the relevant accounting period, and FRS 105 is the standard that applies to qualifying entities using that framework. Not every new company qualifies, and a company is not automatically treated as a micro-entity just because it has recently been incorporated or has low turnover. Eligibility also needs to be considered for each accounting period, as a company's circumstances can change. The right framework should be confirmed before the accounts are prepared.

No. A confirmation statement is a separate filing that confirms the company's registered details, such as directors, shareholders and registered office, are up to date. It is not the same as filing statutory accounts, and filing accounts does not discharge the confirmation statement requirement, just as filing a confirmation statement does not satisfy the accounts filing obligation. A limited company may need to deal with both, so it is worth keeping track of each requirement separately rather than treating them as one task.

Where required accounts are filed after the applicable deadline, Companies House can apply consequences, and the outcome depends on the circumstances and how late the filing is. Paying any penalty does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts, so the filing still has to be completed. If you believe there was a valid reason for a delay, the position on appeals depends on the circumstances and the applicable rules rather than being automatically available. If your first accounts are overdue, the priority is usually to get accurate accounts prepared and filed as soon as possible.
