First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Wanstead London, Prepared and Filed With Professional Support

If your newly incorporated company is approaching the end of its first accounting period, our First Year Accounts for Limited Company service in Wanstead London is built to take the uncertainty out of that first filing. We confirm the accounting reference date and the period the accounts must cover, review the accounting records behind the figures, and prepare statutory accounts that present the company’s position properly — a balance sheet, and a profit and loss account where applicable. Once prepared, the accounts can be filed with Companies House where required. Where Corporation Tax applies, we will also explain how that fits alongside the accounts: a CT600 is submitted to HMRC separately and is not the same as filing accounts at Companies House. Directors in Wanstead London who want their first-year figures checked carefully before the deadline, with clear pricing and no hidden costs, can get that support from us.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company? Guidance for New Limited Companies in Wanstead London

First-year accounts are the first set of statutory annual accounts a limited company prepares for its initial accounting period. They are not optional, and they are not something a company can set aside simply because it is new or has only recently started operating. When a company is incorporated, Companies House sets an accounting reference date, and the first accounting period usually runs from the incorporation date to that date. That first period can be longer than twelve months, which is one reason first-year reporting often looks different from the accounts prepared in later years. Directors should always check the dates that actually apply to their own company rather than assuming a standard twelve-month period. Micro-entity reporting is one route a company may take. Some limited companies may qualify for the micro-entity accounting framework if they meet the applicable eligibility requirements for the relevant accounting period. Where a company qualifies, FRS 105 — the financial reporting standard applicable to qualifying entities using the micro-entity framework — allows a simplified format for the accounts. It does not follow that every newly incorporated company, or every startup with modest activity, is automatically a micro-entity. Eligibility depends on the company’s circumstances and the requirements that apply to that period, and it is worth confirming before preparation begins. The accounts themselves normally include a balance sheet showing assets and liabilities at the period end and, where applicable, a profit and loss account. The reporting also addresses the basis of preparation and the directors’ responsibilities for the company’s records and filings. The completed accounts are then delivered to Companies House where required, within the applicable filing deadline. This is a Companies House obligation and is separate from Corporation Tax: a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is a different filing, made to HMRC where applicable, and the periods covered by the two can differ. It is also worth being clear about what first-year accounts are not. They do not replace a confirmation statement, which is a separate Companies House filing that keeps the public register up to date. They do not replace the company’s bookkeeping records, and they do not settle a Corporation Tax position on their own. For directors of newly incorporated companies in Wanstead London, the practical starting point is straightforward: keep accurate records as transactions happen — bank transactions, sales and income records, purchase invoices, expense receipts, asset purchases, director transactions, share capital details, loans and finance, and payroll or VAT records where those apply — and take advice early on the framework and filing position so the first set of accounts is prepared on the right basis.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Business Turnover

Annual Turnover of £1 Million or less. (£632,000 previously)

Balance Sheet

Balance sheet total of £500,000 or less.(£316,000 previously)

Company Size

On an average 10 or less employees
(10 or less previously)

Have Your First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Wanstead London Prepared Accurately

One of the most common concerns we hear from directors is simple: they are not certain what the first set of accounts should contain, which reporting framework applies to the company, or what has to go to Companies House and what has to go to HMRC instead. Micro Entity Accounts works with newly incorporated companies on exactly that — reviewing your accounting records, preparing the first-year statutory accounts under the framework the company is eligible for, and filing with Companies House where required. If your bookkeeping is incomplete, or the company has had very limited activity so far, we can work with what exists and explain what is still needed before the accounts can be finalised. If you would rather start your first accounting period with the figures in good order, get in touch and we will confirm what applies to your company.

They are the first set of statutory annual accounts a limited company prepares for its initial accounting period, covering the period from incorporation through to the company's first accounting reference date. They report the company's financial position for that period — typically a balance sheet and, where applicable, a profit and loss account — and must be prepared under the reporting framework the company is eligible for. They differ from the company's later annual accounts mainly because there are no comparative figures for a previous period and because the first accounting period can be longer than twelve months.

The due date depends on the company's incorporation date and the accounting reference date that Companies House sets, along with whether the first accounting period has been shortened or extended. Because the first period can run for more than twelve months, first-year deadlines are not identical for every company. The most reliable approach is to check the dates recorded for your own company and, where you are unsure, confirm the position before the period ends rather than after. We can review the applicable dates for a company in Wanstead London and plan the preparation around them.

It depends on what the company has done during the period. Commonly needed items include bank transactions and statements, sales and income records, purchase invoices and expense receipts, details of any assets bought or sold, director transactions and any director's loan movements, share capital information, and details of loans or finance agreements. If the company has run payroll or is VAT registered, those records are relevant too. A newly incorporated company with very little activity may only have a small number of items to provide, which is perfectly workable.

A limited company generally has statutory accounts filing obligations where required, and this applies to new companies as well as established ones. A company does not escape those obligations simply because it has not started trading, has had limited activity or has not yet generated revenue. The exact filing position depends on the company's circumstances and the applicable Companies House requirements. Filing accounts is also separate from the company's confirmation statement, which remains a distinct filing obligation, and separate from any Corporation Tax Return due to HMRC.

Possibly, yes. Preparing and filing statutory accounts is a Companies House matter, and a company can still have filing obligations even where there has been little or no activity. Whether the company is properly described as dormant depends on its circumstances and the applicable rules, so it is not something to assume automatically — a company that has had no significant accounting transactions is not necessarily dormant for reporting purposes. Where a company is dormant for Corporation Tax purposes, that position is notified to HMRC separately and does not in itself complete the accounts filing.

No. Statutory accounts are prepared for the members and delivered to Companies House where required. A Corporation Tax Return, such as a CT600, is submitted to HMRC where the company has Corporation Tax obligations, and it serves a different purpose. The figures in the accounts are often used when working out the company's tax position, but the two filings have separate destinations and separate requirements. It is also worth noting that a company's first Corporation Tax accounting period does not always match the period covered by its statutory accounts.

It may do, if it meets the applicable eligibility requirements for the relevant accounting period. Qualification is not automatic, and it does not follow from the fact that a company is new or that its activity has been modest so far. Where a company qualifies, FRS 105 is the financial reporting standard applicable to qualifying entities using the micro-entity framework, and it allows a simplified format. The appropriate framework should be determined from the company's circumstances and the requirements in force for that period, which is something we check before preparing the accounts.

Failing to deliver required accounts by the applicable deadline can lead to consequences from Companies House, and the outcome can vary depending on the circumstances and how late the filing is. Paying any penalty does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts, so the priority is always to complete and deliver them. Where an appeal is considered, eligibility depends on the specific circumstances and the applicable rules. Directors of companies in Wanstead London who think a deadline may have been missed should act quickly rather than leave the position unresolved.
