First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Swanley — Prepared, Explained and Filed With Professional Support

A company’s first set of statutory accounts often arrives sooner than directors expect, and it comes at a point when the business is still finding its shape. We help newly incorporated and newly trading limited companies in Swanley prepare their First Year Accounts for Limited Company, beginning with a proper review of the accounting records you hold — bank transactions, sales and expense records, asset purchases, director transactions and share capital details — so the figures in the accounts reflect what the company has actually done. From there we prepare the balance sheet and, where applicable, the profit and loss account, and support you with delivering those accounts to Companies House where required. If your company also has Corporation Tax obligations, a Company Tax Return such as a CT600 is a separate submission to HMRC with its own purpose and deadline, and we keep the two clearly apart so nothing is assumed to be covered when it is not.

He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

First CT600 due

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company, and How Do They Work for New Limited Companies in Swanley?

First year accounts are the first set of annual statutory accounts a limited company prepares after incorporation. They cover the company’s initial accounting period, which normally begins on the incorporation date and ends on the accounting reference date set at Companies House. That first period is not always twelve months long — it can be longer or shorter depending on when the company was incorporated — so the period, and the filing deadline that follows from it, is specific to each company rather than fixed for every new business. The accounts are built from the company’s accounting records and are generally delivered to Companies House where required. This is a statutory obligation rather than an optional exercise, and it does not disappear because the company is new, has traded only lightly or has yet to start trading. Directors remain responsible for making sure the company meets its filing obligations, even when an accountant handles the preparation and submission. It is worth separating first year statutory accounts from other compliance tasks. A Corporation Tax Return, such as a CT600, is submitted to HMRC rather than Companies House, and the company’s first Corporation Tax accounting period does not always match its statutory accounts period. A confirmation statement is also separate — it confirms the company’s registered details with Companies House and is not a substitute for accounts. Filing the accounts does not complete the CT600, and filing a CT600 does not complete the accounts filing. Some companies may be eligible to prepare their accounts under the micro-entity framework using FRS 105, the financial reporting standard for qualifying micro-entities, which allows a simplified balance sheet and reduced disclosure. Eligibility depends on meeting the applicable conditions for the relevant accounting period, and it should be assessed on the company’s own circumstances. A newly incorporated company does not automatically qualify simply because it is new, small or has modest activity. Where micro-entity treatment is not available, another reporting framework may be the correct fit, and we advise on that before any figures are finalised.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Business Turnover

Annual Turnover of £1 Million or less. (£632,000 previously)

Balance Sheet

Balance sheet total of £500,000 or less.(£316,000 previously)

Company Size

On an average 10 or less employees

Get Your First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Swanley Prepared Accurately

First-year accounts tend to land at an awkward moment. The company has only just got going, the records may still be sitting in a spreadsheet, a banking app or a shoebox of receipts, and it is rarely obvious which reporting framework applies or what Companies House expects to receive. Micro Entity Accounts works with directors of newly incorporated limited companies in Swanley to cut through that uncertainty — reviewing your accounting records, preparing the statutory accounts, walking you through the figures and supporting the Companies House filing where required, while keeping Corporation Tax, CT600 and confirmation statement obligations clearly separate. If your first accounting period has ended, or is approaching, it is worth getting professional support in place before the deadline becomes a problem rather than after.

They are the first set of statutory annual accounts a company prepares after incorporation, covering its initial accounting period. That period usually starts on the incorporation date and runs to the company's first accounting reference date, although the length of the first period can differ from a full twelve months. The accounts are prepared from the company's accounting records and generally need to be delivered to Companies House where required. They are separate from a Corporation Tax Return and from a confirmation statement.

There is no single date that applies to every new company. The deadline depends on the company's accounting reference date, its incorporation date and the rules that apply to first accounts, so a company incorporated early in the year may be working to a different date from one incorporated later. When you come to us, we check the company's Companies House record, confirm the accounting period that applies and set out the filing date you are working towards.

It depends on what the company has actually done since incorporation. Typical items include bank statements and transaction listings, sales or income records, purchase invoices and business expense receipts, details of assets bought, director loan and other loan balances, share capital information, and payroll or VAT records where those are relevant. A company with very little activity may need far less. The sensible starting point is a short conversation about what has happened in the company, followed by a look at the records you already hold.

Generally yes, where the company is required to file statutory accounts. A company does not escape its filing obligations simply because it has only recently been incorporated or has had limited activity. Where a company has had no significant accounting transactions, the reporting position depends on whether it meets the conditions to be treated as dormant and on the applicable rules — that is not something to assume. We can review the position and explain what actually needs to be filed.

No, and it helps to keep them distinct. Statutory accounts are prepared for the company's members and delivered to Companies House where required. A CT600 is a Company Tax Return submitted to HMRC as part of the company's Corporation Tax obligations, with its own purpose, destination and deadline. Information from the accounts often feeds into the tax return, but filing one does not complete the other, and the company's first Corporation Tax accounting period does not always match its statutory accounts period.

It may do, but not automatically. Micro-entity reporting under FRS 105 is available to companies that meet the applicable eligibility conditions for the relevant accounting period. Being newly formed, small or lightly active does not on its own guarantee that the framework applies. We assess eligibility against the company's circumstances and prepare the accounts under the framework that fits, which may be micro-entity, small company or another basis entirely.

Yes, they are separate requirements. A confirmation statement is filed with Companies House to confirm that the company's registered information — directors, shareholders, registered office and similar details — remains accurate. It is not statutory accounts, and filing accounts does not replace it. Many directors in Swanley end up dealing with both in the same period, so it is worth tracking each obligation individually rather than treating them as one task.

Failing to deliver required accounts by the applicable deadline can lead to consequences from Companies House, which may include penalties that increase the longer the accounts remain outstanding. The outcome is not identical in every case, and paying a penalty does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts. If something has slipped, we can help you get the accounts prepared and filed, and discuss whether an appeal may be appropriate depending on the circumstances and the applicable rules.
