First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Stoke On Trent, Prepared and Filed With Professional Support

A newly incorporated or newly trading limited company still has statutory accounts to prepare for its first accounting period, and getting that first set right makes everything that follows easier to manage. Micro Entity Accounts supports company directors in Stoke On Trent with preparing first year statutory accounts from the accounting records, reviewing the figures and supporting information, and filing the accounts with Companies House where required. We also help you understand how the company’s incorporation date and accounting reference date shape the first accounting period, and how that fits alongside the company’s other obligations. A Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted to HMRC separately, and a confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing — preparing the accounts does not complete either of those. What you get is clear pricing, plain-English explanations and practical support from a team that deals with first year company accounts every day.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company? Understanding First Statutory Accounts for New Limited Companies in Stoke On Trent

First year accounts are the first set of statutory annual accounts a limited company prepares. They cover the company’s initial accounting period, which generally begins on the date of incorporation and ends on the company’s first accounting reference date. Because that first period does not always run for a full twelve months — it can be longer or shorter depending on when the company was formed and whether the accounting reference date has been changed — a new company’s first filing position can differ from the pattern it will follow in later years. Directors in Stoke On Trent should check the specific dates that apply to their own company rather than assuming they match the norm. The accounts are built from the company’s accounting records and normally include a balance sheet, a profit and loss account where applicable, and notes required by the reporting framework being used. Once the directors approve them, they are delivered to Companies House where required. Companies House registers those filings; it does not prepare the accounts, check whether they were professionally prepared, or approve them in any regulatory sense. Some companies meet the eligibility conditions for the micro-entity framework and may then prepare and file simplified accounts under FRS 105, the financial reporting standard for qualifying entities using micro-entity accounting. Eligibility depends on the applicable criteria for the relevant accounting period and should be assessed rather than assumed — a newly incorporated company is not automatically a micro-entity, and low activity alone does not decide the question. It also helps to keep three obligations apart. First year statutory accounts are filed with Companies House where required. A Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 goes to HMRC where applicable, and the company’s first Corporation Tax accounting period does not always match its statutory accounts period. A confirmation statement is a separate filing that keeps the company’s registered details current. Completing one of these does not discharge the others.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Get Your First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Stoke On Trent Prepared Correctly

Your company’s first set of accounts often raises questions that did not come up at incorporation — which reporting framework is appropriate, how the first accounting period has been set, and what actually has to be sent where. If your records are still a spreadsheet, a folder of invoices or a mixture of both, that is entirely normal for a first year. What matters is turning those records into accounts that reflect what happened in the business and that meet the filing requirements applying to your company. Micro Entity Accounts works with directors in Stoke On Trent on preparing and filing first year statutory accounts, reviewing the underlying accounting records, and explaining clearly which part of your compliance sits with Companies House and which sits with HMRC. You get fixed-fee support, clear pricing and no hidden costs, so you know where you stand before any work begins. If your first accounting period is coming into view, get in touch and we can talk through your company’s position.

They are the first set of statutory annual accounts your company prepares, covering its initial accounting period. That period usually starts on the date of incorporation and ends on the company's first accounting reference date. The accounts are prepared from the company's accounting records and typically include a balance sheet, a profit and loss account where applicable, and the notes required by the reporting framework used. The directors approve them, and they are then filed with Companies House where required.

There is no single answer that applies to every company, because the first accounting period and the filing deadline both depend on your incorporation date, your accounting reference date and the Companies House requirements that apply to your company. A first accounting period can be longer or shorter than twelve months, which is one reason it does not always follow the same pattern as later years. The safest approach is to confirm the dates for your own company rather than relying on a general rule, and to work backwards from there when planning the accounts preparation.

It depends on what your company has done, but most first year accounts are built from bank transactions and statements, sales and income records, business expenses and purchase invoices, details of any assets bought, director transactions and loans, share capital information, and payroll or VAT records where those apply. If you have kept everything in one place, even roughly, that is a workable starting point. We review what you have and tell you what else is needed, rather than expecting a perfect set of books from day one.

In most cases, yes — statutory accounts have to be delivered to Companies House where the filing requirement applies, and this is not optional simply because the company is new to Stoke On Trent or anywhere else. A confirmation statement is a separate filing, and it does not take the place of the accounts. Filing accounts with Companies House is also not the same as submitting a Corporation Tax Return to HMRC; those are two different filings with two different destinations.

No. Statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House where required, while a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted to HMRC where applicable. The figures in your accounts may well feed into the information used for the Corporation Tax position, but the purposes and destinations are different, and completing one does not complete the other. It is also worth knowing that a company's first Corporation Tax accounting period does not always line up exactly with its statutory accounts period.

A company may still have statutory filing obligations even where activity has been limited or trading has not yet begun, so incorporation alone is not a reason to set the accounts aside. Whether the company is treated as dormant for a particular purpose depends on the applicable rules and on whether there have been significant accounting transactions, which is a question of fact rather than a label you can simply choose. We look at your circumstances and explain what your reporting position actually is.

Some new companies do qualify, but it is not automatic. Eligibility for the micro-entity framework depends on meeting the applicable criteria for the relevant accounting period, and a company with low activity does not automatically qualify either. Where a company does qualify, FRS 105 is the financial reporting standard used by entities applying the micro-entity framework. We check eligibility against your circumstances before deciding which framework your accounts should be prepared under.

Failing to deliver accounts by the applicable deadline can lead to Companies House consequences, and those consequences are not identical in every case. Paying any penalty that arises does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts, so the priority is always to get the filing completed. If you are already overdue, or think you may miss a deadline, talk to us early — we can help you understand the position and get the accounts prepared, and any appeal against a penalty depends on the circumstances and the applicable rules.
