First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Southmoor, Prepared and Filed by Specialists

The first set of statutory accounts is the one that shapes every later filing, and it is often the one directors feel least sure about. If you have recently incorporated a company in Southmoor, Micro Entity Accounts can prepare your First Year Accounts for Limited Company, work through the accounting records behind them and deliver them to Companies House where required. We start by confirming the period the accounts must cover, using the company’s incorporation date and accounting reference date, then prepare a balance sheet and, where applicable, a profit and loss account under the reporting framework your company is eligible to use. Where Corporation Tax applies, that side of things is handled separately through HMRC, and we will explain how the figures in your accounts feed into that process without the two filings being confused. Directors remain responsible for the company’s statutory obligations, but the preparation and filing work does not have to sit with you.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

Your first filing timeline

Incorporation

Your first filing timeline depends on your company's incorporation date and accounting reference date.

Accounting reference date

First accounts due

Normally 21 months after incorporation at Companies House.

First CT600 due

12 months after the end of the accounting period, with tax due earlier.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company, and How Do They Apply to Limited Companies in Southmoor?

First Year Accounts for Limited Company are the first set of annual statutory accounts your company prepares for its initial accounting period. They are not optional paperwork triggered by trading, sales or profit — they follow from incorporation and from the accounting reference date Companies House assigns when the company is formed. For a company in Southmoor, that first accounting period normally runs from the date of incorporation to the first accounting reference date, which is commonly the last day of the month in which the company was incorporated, twelve months on. The first period is often longer than a standard twelve-month year, and Companies House measures the filing deadline from the company’s own accounting reference date rather than from the date the company started trading. The accounts usually include a balance sheet and, where the applicable framework calls for it, a profit and loss account, along with any notes and the directors’ responsibilities that apply to your company. Once the accounts are finalised, they are delivered to Companies House where required. That is a separate exercise from a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600, which is submitted to HMRC, and from the confirmation statement, which is a Companies House filing in its own right and does not replace the accounts. Where a company meets the applicable eligibility requirements — generally assessed against turnover, balance sheet total and employee numbers for the relevant period — it may be able to report under the micro-entity framework using FRS 105, the standard that applies to qualifying entities using that framework. Eligibility has to be considered for each company and each period, so it is worth confirming your position before accounts are drawn up. Not every newly incorporated company qualifies, and not every first set of accounts is prepared on the same basis.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Business Turnover

Annual Turnover of £1 Million or less. (£632,000 previously)

Balance Sheet

Balance sheet total of £500,000 or less.(£316,000 previously)

Company Size

On an average 10 or less employees
(10 or less previously)

Get Your First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Southmoor Prepared Correctly the First Time

Most directors of a newly incorporated company are not short of information about what they must file — they are short of certainty about whether their own figures, records and framework are right. That uncertainty tends to sit around a few practical questions: which accounting period applies, which reporting framework the company can use, what Companies House expects to see in a first set of accounts, and where the line sits between that filing and anything due to HMRC. Micro Entity Accounts can take the preparation and filing of those accounts off your hands, starting with a review of your accounting records and a check of your company’s incorporation details and accounting reference date. If something in your records is incomplete, we will tell you plainly what is needed rather than leaving it to the last minute. If you are running a limited company in Southmoor and would rather have your first statutory accounts prepared and filed with professional support, get in touch and we will talk you through your position.

They are the first set of annual statutory accounts a limited company prepares for its initial accounting period. The period usually starts on the date of incorporation and ends on the company's first accounting reference date. The accounts typically include a balance sheet, and a profit and loss account where the applicable reporting framework requires one, together with any supporting notes. They are prepared from the company's accounting records and delivered to Companies House where required.

The date depends on your company's first accounting reference date, which is set when the company is incorporated. Companies House measures the filing deadline from that date, and a first set of accounts is normally given a longer window than accounts for later years. Because the exact date varies from company to company, it is best to confirm it from your own incorporation details rather than working from a general rule, and we check the specific position before any accounts are prepared.

It depends on what the company has actually done since incorporation. In most cases we would look for bank statements and transactions, details of any income and expenses, purchase invoices, records of assets bought for the business, director loan activity, share capital details and any loans or finance arrangements. Where the company runs payroll or is VAT registered, those records are relevant too. If some of that does not exist because the company has been quiet, we will work with what is available and explain what else is needed.

Incorporation brings statutory filing obligations with it, so a company that has not yet begun trading may still have accounts to prepare and file for its first period. Whether it can be treated as dormant for Companies House and HMRC purposes is a separate question and depends on whether there have been any significant accounting transactions, which is not something to assume simply because activity has been limited. We can help you establish which position applies to your company in Southmoor.

No. They are two different filings with two different destinations. Statutory accounts go to Companies House where required, while a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted to HMRC where the company has a Corporation Tax obligation. The figures in your accounts are often used when preparing the tax position, but filing one does not complete the other. It is also worth noting that a company's first Corporation Tax accounting period and its statutory accounts period do not always line up exactly.

Some new companies can, but it is not automatic and it should not be assumed. Eligibility for the micro-entity framework is generally assessed against turnover, balance sheet total and employee numbers for the relevant period, so it depends on the company's own circumstances. Where a company does qualify, accounts can be prepared under the micro-entity framework using FRS 105. If it does not, another framework may be more appropriate, and we will confirm which applies before preparation begins.

They are the same type of filing — the first set simply covers the company's initial accounting period, which is often longer or shorter than a normal twelve-month year. Everything that follows is prepared on the same principle but for a standard accounting period. The distinction matters mainly for working out which dates apply and how the first period is presented.

Failing to deliver accounts to Companies House by the applicable deadline can lead to consequences, and those consequences can vary depending on how late the filing is and the company's filing history. Paying any penalty that arises does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts. If you think a deadline has already passed, it is worth getting the position reviewed quickly rather than waiting. We can help you understand where your company stands and what the next practical step is.
