First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Great Missenden, Prepared and Filed With Professional Support

A company’s first set of statutory accounts is a milestone, and how it is handled sets the tone for every filing that follows. Micro Entity Accounts supports newly incorporated and newly trading limited companies in Great Missenden with their First Year Accounts for Limited Company, working from the accounting records the company holds to produce a balance sheet, and a profit and loss account where applicable, that reflects its position for the first accounting period. We review the figures with you, explain what the statements show and file the accounts with Companies House where required. Where Corporation Tax applies, the CT600 is a separate submission to HMRC with its own rules and timescales, and we can assist with that side of your compliance too. Whether you have been trading for several months or your activity has been limited so far, professional preparation helps avoid avoidable errors and gives your first filing a sound foundation.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.

Your first filing timeline

Incorporation

Your first filing timeline depends on your company's incorporation date and accounting reference date.

Accounting reference date

Set by default to the last day of the month of incorporation, one year on.

First accounts due

Normally 21 months after incorporation at Companies House.

First CT600 due

12 months after the end of the accounting period, with tax due earlier.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company, and How Does the First Accounting Period Work?

First-year accounts are the first set of statutory accounts a limited company prepares for its initial accounting period. They are not optional, and they are not something a company can set aside simply because it was incorporated recently or has seen little activity. When a company is registered at Companies House, an accounting reference date is set and the first accounting period runs from the incorporation date to that reference date. Subsequent periods usually follow a twelve-month cycle, but the first period can be longer or shorter than twelve months, which is one reason the first set of accounts often needs more careful attention than later years. The exact figures and filing deadline depend on the company’s own incorporation date and accounting reference date, so they should always be confirmed from the company record rather than assumed. Where an eligible company meets the applicable criteria, it may be able to prepare accounts under the micro-entity framework, with FRS 105 being the financial reporting standard that applies to qualifying entities using that framework. Eligibility depends on the relevant thresholds and the company’s circumstances for the period in question, so it is not automatic and should be checked rather than presumed. A company that does not qualify may instead fall within the small company regime or need to prepare accounts under a fuller framework. It also helps to be clear about what first-year accounts are not. The statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House where required. A Corporation Tax Return, such as a CT600, is submitted separately to HMRC, and the company’s first Corporation Tax accounting period may not match its statutory accounts period exactly. A confirmation statement is a further, separate filing that keeps the company’s public information up to date. Preparing and filing first-year accounts does not complete those other obligations, and each one needs to be dealt with on its own terms.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Business Turnover

Annual Turnover of £1 Million or less. (£632,000 previously)

Balance Sheet

Get Your First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Great Missenden Prepared Accurately

If your company has recently been incorporated, the first set of statutory accounts can raise questions that are hard to answer from the Companies House guidance alone: which accounting period applies, how the balance sheet should look, whether the micro-entity framework is available, and what actually has to be filed. Micro Entity Accounts works with directors of newly incorporated and newly trading limited companies in Great Missenden to prepare first-year accounts from their accounting records, review the figures with them and file the accounts with Companies House where required, with clear pricing and no hidden costs. If you would rather have your first filing prepared properly from the outset than correct problems later, speaking to us early is the sensible next step.

They are the first set of statutory accounts your company prepares for its initial accounting period, covering the period from the date of incorporation to the company's first accounting reference date. They normally include a balance sheet, and a profit and loss account where applicable, along with the supporting notes and statements required for the reporting framework the company uses. They are a formal statutory document, not an internal summary, and are generally filed with Companies House where required.

The due date depends on your company's incorporation date and its accounting reference date, and the first filing deadline is generally not the same as the deadline for later years. Because it varies from company to company, we check the position from your Companies House record rather than applying a general rule. If you are unsure where you stand, it is worth confirming early so there is time to prepare the figures properly.

It depends on what the company has actually done during the period. Typically we would look at bank transactions, sales and income records, purchase invoices and business expenses, asset purchases, any director transactions or loans, share capital information, and payroll or VAT records where those apply. Not every company will have all of these, and where activity has been limited the records needed will be correspondingly smaller. The aim is to work from accurate accounting records so the accounts reflect what genuinely happened.

In most cases, yes. Being newly incorporated does not remove the statutory accounts obligation, although the first period and its deadline are calculated differently from later years. There are limited exceptions, and whether one applies depends on the company's specific circumstances. If you are a director of a company in Great Missenden that has recently been formed, it is worth confirming your filing position early rather than waiting until a deadline is close.

Not trading does not automatically remove the requirement to deal with statutory accounts, although the reporting position depends on whether the company has had any significant accounting transactions and the applicable rules. A company with no meaningful activity is not automatically dormant for filing purposes, and dormant status has its own criteria. The right approach is to look at what the company has actually done during the period and then decide how it should report.

No. Statutory accounts go to Companies House where required, while a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted to HMRC where the company has Corporation Tax obligations. Information from the accounts is often used when working out the Corporation Tax position, but the two filings serve different purposes and go to different organisations. Filing your accounts does not submit a CT600, and submitting a CT600 does not complete your Companies House filing.

Some new companies do qualify, but it is not automatic and it is not guaranteed simply because a company is small or newly formed. Eligibility depends on meeting the applicable criteria for the relevant accounting period, and where those are met the company may prepare accounts under the micro-entity framework, with FRS 105 applying to qualifying entities that use it. We check the position against your company's circumstances before deciding which framework is appropriate.

Filing after the applicable deadline can lead to consequences from Companies House, and the outcome is not identical in every case. Paying any penalty that arises does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts, so the filing still needs to be completed. If you are already overdue or think you may be, it is better to get the accounts prepared and submitted as soon as possible and to take advice on your position.

They are separate filings with separate purposes. The confirmation statement keeps your company's information at Companies House up to date, while the statutory accounts report on the company's financial position for the accounting period. Filing first-year accounts does not replace the confirmation statement, and the confirmation statement does not replace the accounts. A company may need to deal with both, along with any Corporation Tax obligations, as part of its wider compliance responsibilities.
