First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Buntingford, Prepared with Professional Care

Incorporating a company in Buntingford brings a set of statutory obligations into play, and your first set of annual accounts is usually the first of them to arrive. We help directors with First Year Accounts for Limited Company requirements — reviewing the accounting records you hold, preparing a balance sheet and, where applicable, a profit and loss account, and delivering the statutory accounts to Companies House where required. Alongside that, we explain how your accounting period and accounting reference date determine what has to be filed and by when, so there are no surprises later. Corporation Tax is handled separately: where a company is within the charge to Corporation Tax, any CT600 or related submission goes to HMRC, not to Companies House. If you are unsure what your first-year position actually looks like, Micro Entity Accounts can review it with you and set out the practical next steps.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company, and Could Your Buntingford Limited Company Qualify?

First year accounts are the first set of statutory accounts a limited company prepares for its initial accounting period. They are not optional simply because the company is new. Once a company is incorporated, it generally has statutory accounts obligations, even if trading has been limited or has not yet begun. The accounts are usually prepared from the date of incorporation to the company’s first accounting reference date, and that first period is not always exactly twelve months — it depends on the incorporation date and whether the accounting reference date has been changed. Companies House sets the first accounting reference date from the incorporation date, and the filing deadline follows from it, so the date that applies to one company is not automatically the date that applies to another. The accounts themselves typically include a balance sheet, a profit and loss account where applicable, and the notes required by the reporting framework being used. Directors are responsible for making sure the accounts are prepared, approved and delivered on time, and for keeping adequate accounting records. Where a company meets the eligibility conditions for the micro-entity framework for the relevant accounting period, it may be able to prepare simpler accounts under that framework, with FRS 105 being the financial reporting standard that applies to qualifying micro-entities. Eligibility is assessed against the applicable criteria and the company’s own circumstances — a newly incorporated company is not automatically a micro-entity, and low activity alone does not decide the question. It also helps to keep three separate obligations clearly apart. The statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House where required. A Corporation Tax Return, such as a CT600, is submitted to HMRC where the company has a Corporation Tax obligation, and the company’s first Corporation Tax accounting period may not line up exactly with its statutory accounts period. A confirmation statement is a further, distinct filing that keeps the company’s public record up to date and is not replaced by filing accounts. Directors in Buntingford who understand which filing goes where tend to find the first year far more manageable.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Buntingford: Accurate Preparation and Clear Filing Support

One of the most common worries for a newly incorporated company is simply not knowing whether the records held are complete enough, which reporting framework applies, or what actually has to be sent to Companies House. Micro Entity Accounts works with directors on exactly that — reviewing your accounting records, preparing the first statutory accounts, and supporting you through the Companies House filing requirements that apply to your company. We will talk you through the framework that fits your circumstances, whether that involves micro-entity reporting or a fuller set of accounts, and flag anything you may need to address separately with HMRC. If your first accounting period is approaching, getting the numbers reviewed early is usually far easier than reconstructing them afterwards.

They are the first set of statutory annual accounts your company prepares. They normally cover the period from the date of incorporation to the company's first accounting reference date, and usually include a balance sheet, a profit and loss account where applicable, and the supporting notes required by the reporting framework used. The accounts are delivered to Companies House where required. The first period is not always twelve months long, so it is worth confirming the exact period that applies to your company rather than assuming a standard length.

There is no single date that applies to every company. The deadline is calculated from your company's incorporation date and its first accounting reference date, together with the Companies House requirements in force at the time. Because those inputs differ from company to company, the sensible approach is to check your own company record rather than rely on a general rule. We can confirm the date that applies to your company and plan the accounts preparation around it.

It depends on what the company has actually done during the period. Typically we would look at bank transactions, any sales or income records, business expenses and purchase invoices, asset purchases, share capital details, director transactions such as loans or expenses, and any finance or loan arrangements. Where the company runs payroll or is VAT registered, those records are relevant too. Not every company will have all of these — a company that has not yet started trading will have a much shorter list, and we will tell you what is needed for your circumstances.

A company incorporated in Buntingford or anywhere else in the UK generally still has accounts filing obligations once it is registered, and those obligations do not disappear simply because trading has not begun. What the accounts show, and whether a dormant filing position is available, depends on the company's circumstances and the applicable rules — having no significant accounting transactions does not automatically mean the company is dormant for filing purposes. It is worth reviewing the position rather than assuming nothing needs to be sent.

No, they are separate. The statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House where required, while a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted to HMRC where the company has a Corporation Tax obligation. Filing one does not complete the other, and they serve different purposes. The figures in your accounts often feed into the Corporation Tax position, but the company's first Corporation Tax accounting period and its statutory accounts period may not be identical, so both should be considered on their own terms.

It may be able to, but qualification is not automatic just because the company is new. Eligibility for the micro-entity framework is tested against the applicable criteria for the relevant accounting period, and a company must also consider whether the micro-entity or small company framework is the right fit for its circumstances. Where a company does qualify, FRS 105 is the financial reporting standard that applies to entities using the micro-entity framework. This is something we assess on the facts of your company rather than assume.

No. A confirmation statement is a separate filing that keeps your company's information at Companies House up to date, and submitting statutory accounts does not satisfy that requirement. Companies generally need to continue filing confirmation statements while they remain on the register. First-year accounts, Corporation Tax matters and confirmation statements are best tracked as distinct obligations with their own dates and purposes.

Failing to deliver accounts by the applicable deadline can lead to consequences from Companies House, and the requirement to file the outstanding accounts remains regardless. Late filing penalties can vary according to the company's circumstances and how overdue the filing is, so we would not treat every case as identical. If accounts are already overdue, it is usually best to get them prepared and delivered promptly; whether an appeal is possible depends on the specific circumstances and the rules that apply.
