CT600 Tax Return Filing in Leighton Buzzard – Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing is the process of preparing and submitting a company’s Company Tax Return to HMRC so that its Corporation Tax position for an accounting period is reported correctly. Our service in Leighton Buzzard takes the paperwork off your desk: we review your accounting records, work through any tax adjustments needed to turn accounting profit into taxable profit, prepare the Corporation Tax computation and submit the CT600 to HMRC on the company’s behalf. It is important to understand that the CT600 is separate from the statutory accounts filed with Companies House — these are two different documents, sent to two different bodies, and one does not replace the other. Our aim is straightforward: accurate figures, clear explanations in plain English, and a filing process that fits around running your business. We offer fixed-fee options and transparent pricing, so you know where you stand before we begin.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Is a CT600 and How Does It Apply to Micro-Entity Companies in Leighton Buzzard?

There is no separate official form called a ‘micro-entity CT600’. There is simply the CT600, which is the Company Tax Return that a limited company uses to report its Corporation Tax position to HMRC — and micro-entity companies use exactly the same return as everyone else. Where micro-entities differ is in how their statutory accounts are prepared. A company that qualifies as a micro-entity may prepare and file simpler accounts, and it may apply a reduced disclosure framework such as FRS 105. That choice of accounting framework affects the accounts filed with Companies House; it does not by itself decide whether Corporation Tax is payable or how much is due. A micro-entity company still has Corporation Tax obligations where its circumstances mean it has a filing requirement, and in those cases it needs to submit a Company Tax Return (CT600) to HMRC. The accounting records and accounts form the starting point for the Corporation Tax calculation, but the taxable profit is not always the same as the accounting profit. The Corporation Tax computation may include adjustments — for example, adding back disallowable expenditure or deducting items treated differently for tax — before the taxable profit and any Corporation Tax liability are determined. Whether Corporation Tax is actually payable depends on the company’s own circumstances and taxable position, and filing the CT600 is a separate obligation from paying any Corporation Tax that is due.

A CT600 is the form used to submit a Company Tax Return to HMRC. It sets out a company's Corporation Tax position for an accounting period, including the figures from which taxable profit is calculated and the amount of Corporation Tax due (if any). In practice, the CT600 is the headline return, supported by a Corporation Tax computation and, in most cases, a copy of the statutory accounts. It is a tax filing made to HMRC, not a Companies House document.

A UK limited company generally needs to file a Company Tax Return for each accounting period, unless HMRC has confirmed that no return is required. The same applies to many other entities that fall within the Corporation Tax system. Whether a specific company has a filing obligation — and for which periods — depends on its own circumstances, so it is always worth checking rather than assuming. Where a return is required, it must be submitted to HMRC by the deadline that applies to that company's accounting period.

Yes — they are two separate documents with two separate purposes. Statutory accounts are prepared under an accounting framework and filed at Companies House, where they become publicly available. The CT600 is a tax return submitted to HMRC, reporting the company's Corporation Tax position. The accounts are usually attached to the Company Tax Return and used as the starting point for the tax calculation, but filing accounts does not discharge the CT600 obligation, and filing a CT600 does not discharge the accounts obligation.

No, though the two work together. The CT600 is the return form itself, containing boxes that report the key figures to HMRC. The Corporation Tax computation is the supporting working that shows how you got there — starting with accounting profit, applying the relevant tax adjustments, and arriving at taxable profit and the resulting liability. A well-prepared CT600 is effectively a summary of a computation that has been worked through properly.

A micro-entity company uses the same CT600 as any other company — there is no separate micro-entity version of the form. Whether it needs to file one depends on its Corporation Tax circumstances rather than its size or accounting framework. Preparing simpler statutory accounts under a reduced disclosure framework such as FRS 105 is an accounts decision; it does not automatically determine Corporation Tax liability or remove any filing requirement the company may have.

Accounting profit is the starting point. From there, the Corporation Tax computation may need to add back items that are not allowable for tax, deduct items that are treated differently under the tax rules, and account for reliefs or allowances the company can claim. Capital expenditure, for example, is usually dealt with through capital allowances rather than as an ordinary expense. The result is taxable profit, which may be higher or lower than the accounting profit. The specific adjustments depend on the company's transactions and circumstances.

No — these are two distinct obligations. Filing the CT600 is about reporting the position to HMRC on time; paying Corporation Tax is about settling whatever liability the company owes, and the payment deadline is not necessarily the same as the filing deadline. A company can have a filing obligation even where no Corporation Tax is payable, and a company with tax to pay still needs to submit the return. It helps to treat the two as separate diary items.

If a Company Tax Return is submitted after the deadline that applies to it, HMRC can charge penalties and interest, and the amounts depend on how late the return is and on HMRC's published rules rather than on anything we decide. Late filing can also delay certainty over the company's tax position. The practical answer is to get the figures ready early: keeping clean records through the year, and having a professional prepare and file the CT600 on the company's behalf, makes it far easier to meet the filing date without a last-minute scramble.
