CT600 Tax Return Filing in Leamington Spa: Prepare and Submit Your Company Tax Return to HMRC

If your company needs to report its Corporation Tax position to HMRC, CT600 Tax Return Filing is the process that gets it done. Our Leamington Spa service supports limited companies through preparing the CT600, reviewing the figures that sit behind the Corporation Tax computation, and submitting the Company Tax Return to HMRC accurately and on time. It is worth being clear about what the CT600 is and is not: it is a tax return submitted to HMRC, not the statutory accounts you file with Companies House, and not your Confirmation Statement or VAT Return, which are separate obligations with their own requirements. We help you keep those filings distinct, use your accounting records as the starting point for taxable profit, and take the administrative weight off your shoulders so that Corporation Tax reporting does not sit at the bottom of your to-do list.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What the CT600 Means for a Micro-Entity Company in Leamington Spa

There is no separate official “micro-entity CT600” form. The CT600 is the standard Company Tax Return used to report a company’s Corporation Tax position to HMRC, and it applies to companies generally, whatever their size. A company that operates as a micro-entity, keeping simpler records and preparing accounts under a small-company regime, can still have Corporation Tax obligations and may need to submit a CT600 if HMRC requires a Company Tax Return for the accounting period. The CT600 is separate from the statutory accounts filed with Companies House, so filing one does not replace the other. Where a return is needed, the company’s accounting records and prepared accounts are usually the starting point for the Corporation Tax calculation, but the taxable profit used on the return can differ from the accounting profit shown in the accounts. That happens because the computation may require adjustments, such as adding back disallowable expenditure or adjusting for items treated differently for tax. Equally, having a micro-entity company does not automatically mean Corporation Tax is payable — whether any tax is due depends on the company’s own circumstances and taxable position. It is also important to keep two things separate: submitting the CT600 to HMRC is a filing obligation, while paying any Corporation Tax due is a payment obligation, and they are handled as distinct steps.

A CT600 is the Company Tax Return form used to report a company's Corporation Tax position to HMRC. It sets out the company's income, gains, deductions and reliefs for an accounting period and shows how the Corporation Tax liability has been calculated. It is filed by companies that HMRC requires to submit a Company Tax Return, which typically includes most limited companies and other incorporated bodies that are within the scope of Corporation Tax. Whether a particular company must file for a given period depends on its circumstances, so it is worth checking your position rather than assuming.

Yes, they are two separate filings with two different bodies. The CT600 is a Corporation Tax Return submitted to HMRC, while statutory accounts are the annual accounts filed at Companies House under the Companies Act requirements. They are prepared from much of the same underlying bookkeeping, but they serve different purposes, follow different rules and usually have different filing dates. Sending accounts to Companies House does not satisfy your Corporation Tax filing obligation, and filing a CT600 does not replace your Companies House filing.

Not necessarily, and the answer depends on the company's own circumstances. Operating as a micro-entity is an accounting and reporting matter; it does not create a separate type of tax return and it does not automatically remove Corporation Tax obligations. Where HMRC requires a Company Tax Return for the period, the company needs to submit a CT600, even though its accounts may be prepared in a simplified form. Equally, a micro-entity company is not automatically liable to pay Corporation Tax — whether any tax is payable depends on its taxable position.

They are related but not the same thing. The Corporation Tax computation is the working paper that starts with the company's accounting profit and applies the necessary tax adjustments to arrive at taxable profit and the resulting Corporation Tax figure. The CT600 is the formal return that reports those figures to HMRC. In practice the two are prepared alongside each other, because the numbers from the computation are what get entered on the tax return.

We normally need the company's accounting records and prepared accounts for the period, details of income, expenses, capital purchases and disposals, any other income such as interest, and information about expenses that may not be allowable for tax. Details of previous tax losses, any reliefs being claimed, and correspondence from HMRC are also helpful. If you are unsure what applies to your company, we can talk it through and let you know what we need to move forward.

Accounting profit is the figure shown in the company's accounts after applying accounting rules. Taxable profit is calculated separately in the Corporation Tax computation, starting from that accounting profit and making adjustments. Typical adjustments include adding back expenditure that is not allowable for tax, deducting capital allowances where they are claimed instead of depreciation, and dealing with items that are treated differently for tax than for accounts. This is why a company can be profitable in its accounts but show a different taxable profit — sometimes lower, sometimes higher.

No. Submitting the CT600 is the act of reporting the company's Corporation Tax position to HMRC, while paying Corporation Tax is a separate obligation that has its own timetable. A company may have nothing to pay for a period, or it may have a liability to settle. Because filing and payment are handled separately, it is important not to assume that submitting the return automatically deals with any tax due.

HMRC can charge penalties and interest when a Company Tax Return is filed after its due date, and the consequences can build the longer the return remains outstanding. The exact position depends on how late the filing is and on the company's circumstances, so it is best to check HMRC's published guidance or take advice rather than rely on assumptions. If you think a filing has been missed or is at risk, getting the return prepared and submitted as soon as possible is usually the sensible first step.
