CT600 Tax Return Filing in Knowle: Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

Preparing a Company Tax Return involves more than copying figures across from your accounts. Professional CT600 Tax Return Filing in Knowle means your accounting records are reviewed, the tax adjustments that apply to your circumstances are considered, your taxable profit and Corporation Tax position are worked through, and the completed CT600 is submitted to HMRC on your behalf. It is worth being clear from the outset that the CT600 is not the same thing as the statutory accounts filed with Companies House. The two are separate obligations with separate purposes, even though they draw on the same underlying bookkeeping. The CT600 reports your company’s Corporation Tax position to HMRC, while statutory accounts present your financial results under an accounting framework. Good CT600 Tax Return Filing brings accuracy, clarity and convenience together: you understand what has been reported, why the figures look as they do, and what still needs your attention, with a Corporation Tax computation to support the numbers rather than a return filled in on guesswork.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Does the CT600 Mean for a Company That Operates as a Micro-Entity?

There is no separate official form called a micro-entity CT600. The CT600 is the form used by companies to submit a Company Tax Return to HMRC, and it is the same core return regardless of the size of the company filing it. What differs for a micro-entity is the accounting side, not the tax return itself. Micro-entity status relates to the accounting framework a company uses to prepare its statutory accounts, such as FRS 105, and it affects how those accounts are presented and what is disclosed. Choosing a particular accounting framework does not automatically determine a company’s Corporation Tax liability, and it does not remove any obligation to deal with Corporation Tax where one exists. A company that operates as a micro-entity may still have Corporation Tax obligations and, where HMRC requires it, will need to submit a Company Tax Return using the CT600. Whether a return is required depends on the company’s circumstances, and HMRC will normally make clear when a Company Tax Return is expected. It is also important not to assume that every micro-entity owes Corporation Tax — whether tax is actually payable depends on the company’s taxable position for the period, and filing a return is a separate matter from paying any tax that arises. The CT600 is distinct from the statutory accounts filed at Companies House, even though the two are closely linked in practice. Your accounting records and the figures in your accounts usually form the starting point for the Corporation Tax calculation. From there, the taxable profit may need to be adjusted, because taxable profit is not always the same as accounting profit. Typical adjustments can include adding back expenditure that is not allowable for Corporation Tax purposes, replacing accounting depreciation with capital allowances, removing income that is not taxable, and applying any available losses or reliefs. The CT600 is the form on which the resulting figures are reported to HMRC, supported by a Corporation Tax computation that shows how the taxable profit was arrived at.

The CT600 is the form used to submit a Company Tax Return to HMRC. It sets out the company's Corporation Tax position for an accounting period, including the company's income, the deductions and reliefs claimed, the profits chargeable to Corporation Tax, and the tax due or repayable. The CT600 sits at the heart of the Company Tax Return, which is the wider submission and can also include supporting information such as a Corporation Tax computation and, depending on how the return is filed, a copy of the statutory accounts. The figures shown on a CT600 should be supported by workings rather than estimated, which is why a properly prepared computation matters.

A CT600 is filed by companies that are required by HMRC to submit a Company Tax Return. HMRC will normally notify a company when it needs to deliver a return, and the requirement can arise even where no Corporation Tax ends up being payable for the period. Not every company will be required to file for every period, so the starting point is the notice from HMRC and the company's own circumstances. If your company is trading, has income that falls within the charge to Corporation Tax, or has received a notice to deliver a return, it is worth checking your position rather than assuming the return is not needed.

Yes, they are separate filings. Statutory accounts are prepared under an accounting framework and filed at Companies House, where they become part of the public record. The CT600 is filed with HMRC and reports the company's Corporation Tax position. The two draw on the same underlying bookkeeping and are usually prepared close together, but they serve different purposes, go to different bodies, and have their own filing dates. Preparing and submitting a CT600 does not satisfy the Companies House accounts filing obligation, and vice versa.

They are different things that work together. The Corporation Tax computation is the working paper that starts with the accounting profit shown in your accounts and applies the relevant tax adjustments to arrive at the taxable profit and the resulting Corporation Tax liability. The CT600 is the HMRC form on which those figures are reported. In practice the computation is normally prepared first, because the figures on the CT600 need to be traceable back to something. Filing a CT600 without a supporting computation is possible in a technical sense, but it leaves the company with no clear explanation of how the reported figures were arrived at.

It may well do, but it depends on the company's circumstances and on whether HMRC requires a Company Tax Return. There is no separate official micro-entity version of the CT600 — the CT600 is the general Company Tax Return, and micro-entity status is an accounting matter rather than a tax one. Being a micro-entity under a framework such as FRS 105 affects how your statutory accounts are prepared and presented, not whether a return is due. Equally, submitting a CT600 does not automatically mean Corporation Tax is payable; the company's taxable position for the period determines that, and filing and payment are separate obligations.

In broad terms, a CT600 needs to be built from complete accounting records for the accounting period, together with the resulting profit and loss account and balance sheet. Beyond the accounts, useful information includes a breakdown of income and expenditure so that anything non-taxable or disallowable can be identified, details of asset purchases and disposals so capital allowances can be considered, information on losses brought forward, details of any reliefs being claimed, and the company's registration details as held by HMRC. Anything unusual in the period — a change of accounting date, a new source of income, or a significant one-off transaction — is worth flagging early, because it is much easier to deal with before the return is finalised.

Taxable profit starts with the accounting profit shown in your accounts, and adjustments are then made to move from an accounting result to a tax result. Expenditure that is not allowable for Corporation Tax purposes is generally added back, accounting depreciation is usually replaced by capital allowances, and income that is not taxable is removed. Losses and reliefs available to the company may then be deducted to arrive at the taxable profit and the Corporation Tax liability. The exact adjustments depend on the company's activities, so the computation is prepared on a case-by-case basis rather than by applying a standard formula.

No — they are separate obligations. Filing the CT600 is how the company tells HMRC what its Corporation Tax position is for the period, and the return needs to be submitted by the applicable filing date. Paying any Corporation Tax due is a different obligation with its own due date, which does not necessarily fall on the same day as the filing date. It is entirely possible to file a return on time and still owe tax, or to have no tax to pay but still be required to file. Keeping both dates visible in your diary is one of the simplest ways to avoid unnecessary pressure.

If a Company Tax Return is delivered late, HMRC may issue a penalty and may also charge interest on any tax paid late. How much depends on how late the return is and on HMRC's own rules, so it is not something that can be pinned down in advance without knowing the specific circumstances. If you think a return is going to be late, the practical options are to file as soon as the figures are ready and, if there is a genuine reason for the delay, to let HMRC know rather than simply leaving it. Getting the return prepared early is the most reliable way of keeping this risk off the table.
