CT600 Tax Return Filing in Hyde: Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing is how a UK company formally reports its Corporation Tax position to HMRC. If your company trades in Hyde or anywhere nearby, we can help you pull the figures together, review the tax adjustments, and submit an accurate Company Tax Return through HMRC’s online service. It is worth being clear about one thing from the outset: the CT600 is not the same as the statutory accounts you file with Companies House. They are two separate obligations, prepared for different audiences, even though they both start from the same bookkeeping records. We look at your income, allowable expenses and capital expenditure, build a clear Corporation Tax computation that reconciles accounting profit to taxable profit, and then file the return on your behalf. You get transparent, fixed-fee options, plain-English explanations of what has been reported, and a single point of contact who understands your company’s circumstances — so filing season becomes a manageable task rather than a last-minute scramble.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

How Does a CT600 Work for a Company That Qualifies as a Micro-Entity?

There is no separate official “micro-entity CT600” form. The CT600 is the standard Company Tax Return used by UK companies to report their Corporation Tax position to HMRC, and it is the same return whether a company is large, small or micro-sized. Where micro-entity status matters is on the accounting side: a company that qualifies as a micro-entity can choose to prepare its statutory accounts under a simplified framework, and that choice affects how the accounts look and what is filed at Companies House — it does not create a different tax return, and it does not by itself determine the company’s Corporation Tax liability. A micro-entity company can still be within the charge to Corporation Tax and may be required by HMRC to submit a CT600 for the accounting period. Where a return is required, the company’s accounting records and accounts usually form the starting point for the calculation, but the figures are not simply copied across. Accounting profit and taxable profit are different measures, because the Corporation Tax computation may need adjustments — for example, adding back disallowable expenditure or deducting items that are treated differently for tax — before taxable profit and any Corporation Tax due are worked out. Two further points are worth keeping separate in your mind: not every micro-entity will owe Corporation Tax, since whether anything is payable depends on the company’s own taxable position, and filing the CT600 is a distinct obligation from paying any Corporation Tax that is due, so submitting the return does not in itself settle a tax bill.

A CT600 is the form HMRC uses to receive a Company Tax Return. It is where a company sets out its Corporation Tax position for an accounting period — the income it has received, the deductions and reliefs it is claiming, and the resulting Corporation Tax figure. Depending on the company's circumstances and how the return is filed, accounts and a tax computation may also need to be submitted alongside it. The CT600 is a tax return for HMRC; it is not the same document as the statutory accounts a company sends to Companies House.

Broadly, a company must submit a Company Tax Return if HMRC has issued it with a notice to deliver one, and this usually applies to companies that are active for Corporation Tax purposes. A company that has been dormant may still need to notify HMRC of its position, and obligations can arise even in periods where no tax ends up being payable, because filing the return and paying tax are separate matters. The exact requirement depends on your company's own circumstances and any correspondence from HMRC, so if you are unsure whether a return is due for a particular period, it is worth checking before assuming you do not need to file.

Yes, and the distinction matters. Statutory accounts are prepared for the company's members and filed at Companies House, while a CT600 is the Company Tax Return submitted to HMRC to report the Corporation Tax position. They are separate filings with separate purposes, and completing one does not discharge the other — filing a CT600 does not satisfy your Companies House obligations, and filing accounts at Companies House does not file your tax return. The two are related in that they usually draw on the same underlying accounting records, and a Corporation Tax computation will normally start from the figures in the accounts before any tax adjustments are made.

They are two parts of the same exercise, but they are not the same thing. The Corporation Tax computation is the working document that takes your accounting profit and adjusts it to arrive at taxable profit, applying the relevant tax treatment to income, expenses, capital items and reliefs so that the Corporation Tax liability can be calculated. The CT600 is the return itself — the form on which those figures are reported to HMRC. In practice, the computation is prepared first and the CT600 is completed from it, which is why an accurate computation sits at the heart of a reliable CT600 Tax Return Filing.

It may well do, but it is not automatic and there is no separate micro-entity version of the form. Micro-entity status relates to the size of the company and the accounting framework it can use when preparing its statutory accounts — it does not exempt a company from Corporation Tax or from reporting to HMRC. If HMRC has issued a notice to deliver a return, the company is expected to file a CT600 for that period, even where the simplified accounts show a modest profit or no liability at all. Whether tax is actually payable depends on the company's taxable position once any adjustments have been applied, and filing the return is a separate step from settling any amount due.

Taxable profit is not always the same as the profit shown in your accounts. The Corporation Tax computation starts with accounting profit and then adjusts it, because some items are treated differently for tax purposes than they are in the accounts. Expenditure that is not allowable for tax may need to be added back, while certain deductions and reliefs, including capital allowances on qualifying purchases, may reduce the amount that is chargeable. The end result is the taxable profit on which any Corporation Tax liability is based, and it is this figure, rather than the accounting profit, that feeds into the CT600.

No — they are two distinct obligations. Filing the CT600 tells HMRC what your company's Corporation Tax position is for the period; paying Corporation Tax is a separate action, and the payment date can fall at a different point from the filing date depending on your company's circumstances. Submitting the return on time does not mean the tax has been paid, and paying the tax does not mean the return has been filed. It is worth diarising both so that neither is overlooked, and keeping records that support the figures reported on the return in case HMRC raises questions later.

If a Company Tax Return is filed after the date HMRC expects it, HMRC may apply penalties and charge interest on any unpaid tax under its published rules, and repeated or lengthy delays can lead to further charges. It is also worth remembering that interest and penalties are assessed separately from the tax itself, so a company can end up owing more than the original liability. If you think a deadline may have been missed, or you have received correspondence from HMRC about an outstanding return, the best approach is to act quickly — get in touch and we can look at the position and help you bring the filing up to date.
