CT600 Tax Return Filing in Hanham Bristol: Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

If your company needs to report its Corporation Tax position to HMRC, professional CT600 Tax Return Filing in Hanham Bristol takes the guesswork out of the process. The CT600 is the form HMRC uses to receive a Company Tax Return, and it brings together the figures from your accounting records, the adjustments needed to arrive at taxable profit, and the resulting Corporation Tax position. Getting it right matters: the figures should reconcile with your accounts, the computation needs to be logical and clearly presented, and the return must be submitted through the correct HMRC channel. It is worth remembering that the CT600 is not the same as your statutory accounts, which are prepared under an accounting framework and filed separately with Companies House, nor is it a Confirmation Statement or a VAT Return. Each of those is a distinct filing obligation with its own purpose and its own deadline. Our approach is straightforward: we review your records, prepare the Corporation Tax computation, check the tax adjustments, and handle the CT600 submission to HMRC on your behalf, keeping you informed along the way. That means less time wrestling with forms and terminology, and more confidence that your Company Tax Return reflects your company’s position clearly and consistently.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

What Does the CT600 Mean for a Micro-Entity Company?

There is no separate official ‘micro-entity’ version of the CT600. The CT600 is the same Company Tax Return form used to report a company’s Corporation Tax position to HMRC, whatever the size of the company. What differs for a micro-entity is usually the way its statutory accounts are prepared, since a company that qualifies as a micro-entity may be able to prepare simpler accounts under a framework such as FRS 105. That accounting choice does not, by itself, determine the company’s Corporation Tax liability, and accounts preparation and Corporation Tax filing are related but separate processes. A micro-entity company may still have Corporation Tax obligations. If it has taxable profits, or if HMRC has issued it with a notice to deliver a Company Tax Return, it will generally need to file a CT600, and being a micro-entity does not remove that requirement. Whether any Corporation Tax is actually payable depends on the company’s own circumstances and its taxable position, not simply on its size. The figures in the accounts are normally the starting point, but the Corporation Tax calculation may require adjustments, for example for expenditure that is not allowable for tax or items treated differently for tax purposes, so taxable profit can differ from the accounting profit shown in the accounts. The CT600 also needs to be filed separately from the statutory accounts submitted to Companies House, and filing the return is not the same as paying any Corporation Tax that is due. Those are separate obligations handled on separate timetables.

The CT600 is the form HMRC uses for a Company Tax Return. It is not a tax in itself. It is the return in which a company reports its Corporation Tax position for an accounting period, showing figures such as turnover, trading profits, the adjustments made to the accounting figures, and the resulting Corporation Tax liability if there is one. The completed return, together with the supporting Corporation Tax computation, is submitted to HMRC, usually online through HMRC's filing service. The figures need to be consistent with the accounts the company has prepared for the same period, so the accounts and the return are normally worked on together.

Broadly, a UK company needs to file a Company Tax Return if it is within the charge to Corporation Tax, if it has taxable profits, or if HMRC has issued it with a notice to deliver a return. Once a notice has been issued, a return is normally required even if the company has no tax to pay. Newly formed companies, dormant companies and companies with no trading activity can have different obligations, so whether a particular company must file depends on its own circumstances. Professional CT600 Tax Return Filing can help you work out where your company stands before a deadline becomes a problem.

Yes, and the two should not be confused. Statutory accounts are prepared under an accounting framework and, for most companies, are filed with Companies House. The CT600 is a tax return filed with HMRC. They draw on the same underlying records, but they serve different purposes: the accounts show the company's financial position and performance, while the CT600 reports the Corporation Tax position and is normally accompanied by a tax computation. The filing routes and the dates by which each must be submitted can differ, so both obligations need to be planned for separately.

They work together, but they are not the same thing. The CT600 is the return form itself. The Corporation Tax computation is the set of workings that shows how you moved from accounting profit to taxable profit and then to the Corporation Tax position. The computation deals with adjustments such as disallowable expenditure, capital allowances and other tax-specific treatments. HMRC expects the return to be supported by a computation, so the two are prepared alongside each other rather than one instead of the other.

There is no separate micro-entity tax return. A micro-entity company files the same CT600 as any other company where a return is required. Qualifying as a micro-entity affects how the statutory accounts can be prepared and what they need to disclose; it does not remove Corporation Tax obligations in itself. Whether a micro-entity company must file, and whether any Corporation Tax is payable, depends on its circumstances and taxable position. A micro-entity can have taxable profits and a liability, or it may have no tax to pay and still need to submit a return because HMRC has issued a notice to deliver one.

Yes. A company can appoint an accountant or tax agent to prepare and submit its Company Tax Return, and many do. The agent will usually need to be authorised to act for the company for Corporation Tax so that HMRC can deal with them directly and the return can be filed through the appropriate channel. Even where an agent handles the filing, the company's directors remain responsible for the accuracy of the information provided and for making sure the return is submitted and any tax due is paid.

No, they are separate obligations. The CT600 reports the company's Corporation Tax position for the period. If tax is due, it has to be paid separately, and HMRC sets payment dates for Corporation Tax that are distinct from the date by which the return must be filed. The payment date can fall earlier than the filing date, which is why it helps to understand your likely liability well before the return is due. Submitting the CT600 does not discharge any amount owed, and paying the tax does not remove the requirement to file the return.

A late Company Tax Return can lead to penalties, and unpaid or late-paid Corporation Tax can attract interest and further charges. The consequences depend on how late the return is, whether any tax remains outstanding, and the company's own circumstances, so it is not something that can be summarised with a single figure. HMRC generally expects the return to be filed as soon as possible once it is overdue. If you think a date may have been missed, or you are waiting on information you do not yet have, it is usually better to seek advice quickly than to leave the return outstanding.
