CT600 Tax Return Filing in Haddington – Prepare and File Your Company Tax Return with HMRC

CT600 Tax Return Filing is how a UK company reports its Corporation Tax position to HMRC. If your company is based in Haddington or anywhere in East Lothian, professional support can help you pull together the figures, work through the tax adjustments that turn accounting profit into taxable profit, and submit an accurate Company Tax Return on time. It is important to be clear that the CT600 is not the same thing as your statutory accounts. Statutory accounts are prepared for the company’s members and filed with Companies House, while the CT600 is a separate submission made to HMRC. The two are connected — your accounts and accounting records normally feed into the Corporation Tax computation that sits behind the return — but they are distinct filings with different purposes, formats and recipients. Good CT600 Tax Return Filing support means the numbers are checked, the computations are explained, the records behind them are organised, and the return is filed through the correct HMRC channel with the supporting information HMRC expects. Many company directors find this a convenient way to keep on top of their Corporation Tax reporting without having to become experts in tax adjustments themselves.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

What Is a Micro-Entity CT600 and What Does It Mean for Small Companies?

There is no separate official form called a ‘micro-entity CT600’. The CT600 is simply the form HMRC uses for a Company Tax Return, and it is used by companies of all sizes, including those that qualify as micro-entities. What differs is not the tax return itself but the accounting side: a company that meets the micro-entity criteria may be able to prepare and file simpler statutory accounts, often under the FRS 105 framework, and those accounts are then filed with Companies House. That accounting framework does not, by itself, decide what Corporation Tax is due. Micro-entity companies can still have Corporation Tax obligations, and where HMRC requires a Company Tax Return, one must be submitted — although whether any Corporation Tax is actually payable depends on the company’s own circumstances and taxable position. Preparing accounts and filing a CT600 are related but separate processes. The figures in your accounts and accounting records are normally the starting point for the Corporation Tax computation, and that computation may include adjustments — for example, adding back disallowable expenditure or claiming available reliefs — so the taxable profit reported on the CT600 can differ from the accounting profit shown in the accounts. Filing a CT600 and paying any Corporation Tax that is due are also separate obligations, each with its own timing and process, so a filed return does not automatically mean the tax has been settled.

A CT600 is the form used to submit a Company Tax Return to HMRC. It sets out a company's Corporation Tax position for an accounting period, including the figures that make up the taxable profit and the resulting Corporation Tax calculation. It is submitted to HMRC, not to Companies House, and it is usually accompanied by a Corporation Tax computation and, in many cases, a copy of the statutory accounts. The CT600 is the return; it is not the same document as the statutory accounts or the Confirmation Statement.

A company generally needs to file a Company Tax Return when HMRC has issued a notice to file, and there are also circumstances in which a return is required even where no Corporation Tax ends up being payable — for example, where the company has received a notice. Whether a particular company must file, and for which periods, depends on its own circumstances and HMRC's requirements. If you are unsure whether a return is due for your company, it is worth checking your position rather than assuming either that it is or is not required.

Yes, and this is one of the most common points of confusion. Statutory accounts are prepared for the company's members and filed at Companies House under the Companies Act requirements. A CT600 is a tax return submitted to HMRC. They serve different purposes, go to different bodies, and follow different rules. Your accounts are usually an important input into the Corporation Tax computation, but filing accounts does not satisfy your Corporation Tax filing obligation, and filing a CT600 does not satisfy your Companies House obligation. Both need to be dealt with separately.

No. The Corporation Tax computation is the working document that starts with your accounting profit and adjusts it to arrive at taxable profit, applying the relevant tax treatment to items such as disallowable expenses, capital allowances and other reliefs. The CT600 is the return form on which the resulting figures are reported to HMRC. In practice the computation usually sits alongside the CT600 and supports the figures entered on it, which is why accurate computations matter so much to accurate CT600 Tax Return Filing.

Possibly, depending on its circumstances. Being a micro-entity affects the accounting framework you may use and how your statutory accounts are prepared, but it does not remove Corporation Tax obligations or create a separate 'micro-entity' tax return. If HMRC requires a Company Tax Return from your company, the CT600 is the form to use regardless of size. Equally, not every micro-entity will owe Corporation Tax — that depends on the company's taxable position and the reliefs available to it. Filing the return and paying tax are separate matters.

The two filings are separate obligations with separate recipients, and one does not automatically discharge the other. In practice, the accounts and accounting records normally need to be prepared before a reliable Corporation Tax computation can be produced, because the computation starts from the accounting figures. So while the filings are distinct, the accounts preparation work usually comes first in the process. Leaving either filing undone can create problems further down the line, so it is best to plan for both.

Taxable profit is not simply the profit shown in your accounts. The Corporation Tax computation normally begins with the accounting profit and then makes adjustments. These can include adding back expenditure that is not allowable for tax purposes, deducting capital allowances instead of depreciation, and reflecting any reliefs or exemptions the company is entitled to. The result is the taxable profit on which Corporation Tax is calculated. Because these adjustments depend on the company's specific transactions, the gap between accounting profit and taxable profit varies from one business to another.

No — they are separate obligations. Filing the CT600 is about reporting your company's Corporation Tax position to HMRC. Paying Corporation Tax is about settling any liability that arises from that position. A company can file its return and have no tax to pay, or it can have tax to pay with its own separate payment timetable. Keeping both in view, and keeping the records that support the figures, is one of the practical benefits of having CT600 Tax Return Filing handled as part of a wider compliance routine.
