I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

─── OVERDUE ACCOUNTS EXPLAINED

What Makes Company Accounts Overdue, and Why It Is Worth Acting Early

Company accounts generally have to be delivered to Companies House by the statutory deadline that applies to the company’s accounting reference period. Once that date passes and the required accounts have not been delivered, those accounts are treated as overdue. This is a filing point rather than a judgement about trading activity: a company can have overdue accounts whether it has been trading actively, has had a quiet year, or has been dormant. The deadline itself is not identical for every company — it can depend on the accounting reference period, whether it is a first set of accounts and other circumstances — so directors in Weymouth who are unsure of their position should check the company’s Companies House record rather than assume. It is usually simpler to deal with an overdue period sooner rather than later, because the longer accounts remain outstanding the more the situation can accumulate, particularly where more than one accounting period is involved, where the confirmation statement has also slipped, or where Corporation Tax matters are separately outstanding. The accounts still need to be prepared and filed where required, and Micro Entity Accounts can review what is due and help you bring the company’s filing position up to date.

─── Why Choose Us

How Much Are Companies House Late Filing Penalties?

Penalties escalate the longer your accounts stay unfiled, and they double if your company also filed late in the previous financial year. Acting now is the single most effective way to cap what you owe.

Up to 1 month late

HMRC applies separate penalties for late Corporation Tax Returns, starting at £100 per return plus interest on unpaid tax. Companies House late-filing penalties can change, so check the current GOV.UK guidance for the latest penalty rules.

It means the statutory deadline for delivering that set of accounts to Companies House has passed and the accounts have not yet been filed. Overdue accounts are a filing issue — they do not by themselves mean the company has been suspended or removed from the register. The company still needs to prepare and deliver the accounts where required, and the applicable deadline depends on the company's accounting reference period and individual circumstances rather than being the same for everyone.

In most cases, yes. Missing the deadline does not remove the obligation to prepare and deliver statutory accounts, it simply means the filing is late. The accounts should still be prepared in line with the reporting framework that applies to the company and submitted to Companies House. Where several accounting periods are outstanding, each period may need to be addressed separately, and the information required will depend on the circumstances and the periods being prepared.

Yes. Dormancy and overdue filing are separate matters. A dormant company can still have Companies House filing obligations, and if those accounts were not delivered by the applicable deadline, they become overdue in the same way as any other outstanding filing. Not trading or having no income does not automatically remove the requirement to file, so dormant companies should check their filing position and deal with any outstanding periods.

Companies House can impose a late-filing penalty where accounts are delivered after the applicable deadline. Whether a penalty applies, and at what level, depends on the circumstances and the relevant rules, and not every overdue filing results in the same outcome. Penalties are not optional, and paying a penalty does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts — these are separate matters that both need to be dealt with.

No. Settling a late-filing penalty does not satisfy the underlying filing obligation or cancel the requirement to deliver the outstanding accounts. The accounts still need to be prepared and filed with Companies House where required. It can also help to check whether other compliance items are outstanding, such as a confirmation statement or Corporation Tax obligations to HMRC, because filing overdue accounts does not automatically resolve those separate matters.

Where several periods are outstanding, more than one set of accounts may need to be prepared and delivered, and each period is generally dealt with on its own basis. Filing one set does not automatically resolve the rest. The work involved depends on the number of outstanding periods, the records available and the reporting framework that applies to each one, so we would normally start by reviewing the company's filing history to establish exactly what is due.

It may be able to, but only where the company meets the qualifying conditions for the micro-entity framework and the accounting period in question is eligible. Micro-entity accounts are prepared under FRS 105, the standard applicable to qualifying entities using that framework. Not every small company qualifies, and a company may instead be required to prepare small-company accounts or another applicable form of statutory accounts depending on its structure, size, accounting period and circumstances. Eligibility should be considered before the accounts are prepared.

No. These are separate obligations. Statutory accounts are filed with Companies House where required, while Corporation Tax Returns such as the CT600 are submitted to HMRC where applicable. A confirmation statement is also separate from the annual accounts and is submitted to Companies House. Where a company has overdue Corporation Tax Returns alongside overdue accounts, or a confirmation statement that needs attention, those matters generally have to be dealt with separately.
