We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

─── OVERDUE ACCOUNTS EXPLAINED

What Overdue Company Accounts Mean and Why They Should Not Be Ignored

Company accounts generally have to be delivered to Companies House by the applicable statutory deadline, which is based on the company’s accounting reference period and its individual circumstances. Once that deadline passes and the required accounts have not been delivered, they become overdue. There are many ordinary reasons this happens: bookkeeping records may be incomplete, an accountant may have stepped back, a director may have been unwell or unusually busy, or there may have been an assumption that a company which has not traded has nothing to file. In most cases the filing obligation remains regardless of the reason, and the position is usually easier to deal with sooner rather than later. The consequences of late filing depend on the circumstances — Companies House can impose a late-filing penalty where accounts are delivered after the applicable deadline, and prolonged or repeated non-compliance can lead to further action. Paying a penalty does not remove the requirement to file the accounts, and delivering accounts to Companies House does not by itself settle separate obligations such as confirmation statements or Corporation Tax Returns. Our role is to review what is outstanding for companies in Weobley, establish which accounting periods still need to be filed, and prepare those accounts on the reporting basis that applies to the company.

─── Why Choose Us

How Much Are Companies House Late Filing Penalties?

Penalties escalate the longer your accounts stay unfiled, and they double if your company also filed late in the previous financial year. Acting now is the single most effective way to cap what you owe.

Up to 1 month late

More than 6 months late

HMRC applies separate penalties for late Corporation Tax Returns, starting at £100 per return plus interest on unpaid tax. Companies House late-filing penalties can change, so check the current GOV.UK guidance for the latest penalty rules.

Limited companies are generally required to deliver statutory accounts to Companies House for each accounting period. When the applicable filing deadline has passed and those accounts have still not been delivered, they are treated as overdue. Overdue accounts are not a different type of filing — they are simply accounts that should already have been submitted and now need to be prepared and filed. In most cases directors in Weobley can still bring their company's filing position up to date, although exactly what is required depends on how many periods are outstanding and the company's circumstances.

The reasons are usually practical rather than deliberate. Records may not have been kept up to date, a previous accountant may have stopped acting, there may have been a change in the company's activities, or a director may have assumed that a dormant or non-trading company had nothing to file. Sometimes the accounting reference period or the applicable deadline has simply been misunderstood. Whatever the cause, the filing requirement normally remains, and the appropriate reporting framework — micro-entity accounts, small-company accounts or another applicable form — has to be considered before the accounts are prepared.

Dormancy and overdue filing are separate matters. A dormant company can still have Companies House filing obligations, and where accounts were not delivered by the applicable deadline, they can be overdue. Dormant status does not automatically remove the requirement to file annual accounts, and it does not mean an outstanding filing can be ignored. Where a company has been dormant for part or all of an accounting period, we can look at the specific position and confirm what needs to be prepared and delivered.

Companies House can impose a late-filing penalty where accounts are delivered after the applicable deadline, and the penalty that may apply depends on the circumstances and how late the filing is. The penalty and the filing obligation are separate matters: paying a penalty does not remove or cancel the requirement to prepare and deliver the outstanding accounts. If you believe a penalty was issued incorrectly, an appeal may be possible depending on the circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules, but eligibility is not guaranteed and each case is assessed on its own facts.

An overdue filing does not automatically mean a company is suspended, struck off or removed from the Companies House register. However, Companies House may take action against companies that fail to meet their filing obligations, and persistent non-compliance can increase the risk of compulsory strike-off action. If your company has already received a strike-off notice, or has been dissolved, the position may require separate action or legal advice rather than being treated as a routine overdue accounts filing, and we would recommend seeking appropriate guidance as soon as possible.

Where a company has more than one outstanding period, each set of accounts may need to be prepared and delivered separately, and filing one period does not automatically resolve the others. We normally start by reviewing the company's filing history to establish which periods are outstanding and in what order they should be dealt with. The information required, the applicable reporting framework and the resulting work will differ from period to period, so we confirm the position before any preparation begins.

Yes. Statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House where required, while a CT600 Corporation Tax Return is submitted to HMRC where applicable — filing overdue accounts with Companies House does not, by itself, satisfy outstanding Corporation Tax obligations. A confirmation statement is also a separate filing, submitted to Companies House, and delivering overdue accounts does not replace it. Where a company has several outstanding compliance matters, we can set out what each one involves so nothing is overlooked.

We can review your company's outstanding filing requirements, confirm which accounting periods still need to be addressed, and prepare the statutory accounts on the basis that applies to your company. Where the company qualifies and it is appropriate, that may involve micro-entity accounts prepared under FRS 105, but eligibility always depends on the company's structure, accounting period and circumstances. We then handle the Companies House filing, keep you informed at each stage, and flag any separate matters — such as confirmation statements or Corporation Tax Returns — that may also need attention. Our qualified accountants are regulated by ICAEW, ACCA and AAT, and our services are offered on a clear fixed-fee basis.
