I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

─── OVERDUE ACCOUNTS EXPLAINED

What Makes Company Accounts Overdue — and Why It Pays to Act Early

Company accounts become overdue when the filing deadline for a particular accounting period has passed and the required accounts have not yet been delivered to Companies House. That deadline is not the same for every company: it depends on factors such as the length and dates of the accounting reference period, whether the company is filing its first set of accounts, and its individual circumstances. Once the applicable date has passed, the accounts remain outstanding until they are prepared and submitted. Directors in North London and elsewhere are still responsible for bringing those filings up to date, and reviewing the position sooner usually makes it easier to establish exactly which periods are outstanding and what records are needed to prepare them. Leaving accounts unfiled does not remove the obligation to file them, and Companies House can apply late-filing penalties where accounts are delivered after the applicable deadline. Generally, the longer a filing remains outstanding, the more serious the consequences may become, so it is sensible to seek professional assistance rather than wait for further correspondence. Where more than one accounting period is affected, each period may need to be prepared and filed separately.

─── Why Choose Us

How Much Are Companies House Late Filing Penalties?

Penalties escalate the longer your accounts stay unfiled, and they double if your company also filed late in the previous financial year. Acting now is the single most effective way to cap what you owe.

How late the accounts are Private company Public company
Up to 1 month late
£150
£300

£375
£750
3 to 6 months late

More than 6 months late

HMRC applies separate penalties for late Corporation Tax Returns, starting at £100 per return plus interest on unpaid tax. Companies House late-filing penalties can change, so check the current GOV.UK guidance for the latest penalty rules.

Company accounts become overdue when the applicable statutory filing deadline has passed and the required accounts have not been delivered to Companies House. The deadline varies between companies, so it depends on factors such as your accounting reference period and whether it is your first set of accounts. Once that date has passed, the accounts remain outstanding until they are properly prepared and filed.

Yes. Not trading and dormancy do not automatically remove the requirement to file annual accounts with Companies House. A dormant company can still have a filing obligation for the relevant period, and if the required accounts were not delivered by the applicable deadline, they can be treated as overdue. The exact requirements depend on the company's circumstances and the accounting period in question.

Companies House can apply late-filing penalties where accounts are delivered after the applicable deadline, and the penalty position depends on how late the filing is and the company's circumstances. Paying a penalty does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts — the two matters are separate. Where a penalty has been issued, whether an appeal is possible depends on the circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules.

Where more than one accounting period is outstanding, each period may need its own set of accounts prepared and filed. Filing one set does not automatically resolve the others. We can review the Companies House record to establish which periods are outstanding, then work through them in order. The records required for each period vary, but typically include bookkeeping information, bank statements, invoices, expense records and any previous accounts filed.

Some companies may qualify for the micro-entity reporting framework, and where a company is eligible, micro-entity accounts under FRS 105 can be prepared and filed for an overdue period. Not every company qualifies, and a small company with outstanding accounts is not automatically a micro-entity. Eligibility depends on the company's size, legal structure, accounting period and the applicable criteria, so the reporting framework is confirmed before preparation begins.

No — these are separate compliance matters. Statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House where required, while Corporation Tax Returns such as the CT600 are submitted to HMRC where applicable. Filing overdue accounts at Companies House does not automatically satisfy any outstanding Corporation Tax obligations. If both are overdue, each needs to be addressed on its own terms.

No. A confirmation statement is a separate filing submitted to Companies House to confirm the company's details, and it is not the same as annual accounts. Filing outstanding accounts does not remove the need to submit any confirmation statement that is due or to keep the company's Companies House information up to date.

Companies House may take action against companies that fail to meet their filing obligations, and persistent non-compliance can increase the risk of compulsory strike-off action. If you have received a warning or a strike-off notice, it is important to take advice promptly, as the right course of action depends on the circumstances. Filing outstanding accounts does not guarantee that any action already started will be stopped or reversed. If a company has already been dissolved, the position usually involves restoration or separate legal advice rather than a straightforward overdue accounts filing.
