We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

─── FRS 105 EXPLAINED

FRS 105 Explained: The Micro-Entities Reporting Framework

FRS 105 is the UK financial reporting standard designed for micro-entities. In plain terms, it is a simplified accounting framework that qualifying companies can choose to adopt, producing shorter financial statements with fewer disclosures than you would see under a fuller standard. The UK micro-entities regime is the set of rules that makes this possible — it is an available accounting regime, not something that is automatically applied to every small company. If a company qualifies for the regime and decides to use it, FRS 105 is the standard that governs how its financial statements are prepared. That means the accounts will typically include a simplified balance sheet, a simplified profit and loss account and a small number of notes, giving a clear picture of the company’s position without the volume of detail required elsewhere. For directors of smaller Uxbridge companies, the appeal is straightforward: less complexity, a clearer set of FRS 105 financial statements, and a reporting format that matches the scale of the business. It is worth understanding, though, that choosing FRS 105 is a decision with consequences — it is a distinct framework, and it sits alongside, rather than replaces, your other filing obligations.

Who Can Use FRS 105 in the UK?

FRS 105 is available to companies that qualify for the UK micro-entities regime and choose to apply it. For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least 2 of 3 applicable size conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees. Meeting those size conditions is an important part of the picture, but it is not the whole test — other eligibility rules and exclusions can apply, and some company types are excluded from the micro-entities regime regardless of their size. It is also worth noting that eligibility is not the same as obligation: even where a company qualifies, applying the regime is a choice, and a company may instead report under a fuller framework. For directors in Uxbridge weighing up their options, the sensible approach is to look at the company’s actual figures, its structure and its reporting needs together, then confirm whether the micro-entities regime is available and whether FRS 105 is the right framework to adopt.

A company generally needs to meet at least 2 of these 3 conditions.

─── What We Review

Everything Your Micro-Entity Company Is Required to Get Right

Most compliance problems are not deliberate. They come from a missed deadline, an accounts template that no longer matches FRS 105, or dividends taken without the paperwork to support them. Our review covers each area in turn and reports back in plain English.

FRS 105 Balance Sheet

A statutory balance sheet prepared to the FRS 105 format, using the reduced disclosure the micro-entities regime allows.

Profit & Loss Account

Required Notes & Disclosures

Preparation of the notes and disclosures required for the company's accounts under the applicable reporting requirements.

Professionally Prepared FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts

FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts need to be built from your company’s actual financial records — the bookkeeping, bank transactions, invoices, expenses, asset purchases and any liabilities that exist at the period end. Professional preparation by qualified accountants means those records are reviewed, adjustments are considered where appropriate, and the financial statements are drafted in line with the reporting requirements that apply to your company under the micro-entities regime. It is important to be clear about what is being prepared and why: your FRS 105 financial statements are the statutory accounts, and filing them at Companies House is a separate exercise from your Corporation Tax obligations. A CT600 Corporation Tax Return is submitted to HMRC on a different basis and to a different timetable, and the fact that your accounts are prepared under FRS 105 does not change that. Good preparation also means the figures in your accounts and the figures behind your tax return are consistent with one another, so you are not reconciling two versions of the same story later on. For Uxbridge directors, the practical value is having accounts that are properly structured for a micro-entity, supported by records that stand up to scrutiny, and a clear line of sight between your accounting position and your wider filing responsibilities.

FRS 105 is the UK financial reporting standard for micro-entities. It provides a simplified accounting framework that qualifying companies can choose to apply, producing shorter financial statements with reduced disclosure compared with fuller standards such as FRS 102. It is the standard that governs the accounts when a company qualifies for the micro-entities regime and decides to use it.

FRS 105 is intended for companies that both qualify for the UK micro-entities regime and choose to apply it. Qualification is based on size criteria, but other eligibility rules and exclusions also apply, so meeting the size conditions alone does not automatically mean a company can or should use FRS 105. Certain company types are excluded from the regime regardless of size, so it is worth checking your position before deciding.

No. The micro-entities regime is an available accounting regime, not a mandatory one. A qualifying company can choose to apply it and prepare FRS 105 accounts, or it can report under a fuller framework. The decision is the company's, and it should be made with an understanding of how the different frameworks affect the content of the accounts and the information that becomes publicly available.

For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least 2 of 3 applicable size conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees. These conditions sit alongside other rules and exclusions, so eligibility should be assessed on the company's specific circumstances rather than on the thresholds alone.

FRS 105 is the micro-entities standard and is deliberately more concise, with simplified primary statements and far fewer disclosure requirements. FRS 102 is a fuller framework used by a much wider range of companies. FRS 102 generally requires more detailed accounting treatments, more disclosures and, in some cases, allows or requires fair value approaches that are not available under FRS 105. Which framework applies depends on whether the company qualifies for and chooses the micro-entities regime.

Statutory accounts prepared under FRS 105 are filed at Companies House in the normal way for a company's accounting period. What differs under the micro-entities regime is the content and level of disclosure in those accounts, not the fact of filing. Filing the accounts is a separate exercise from submitting a Corporation Tax Return to HMRC.

Yes, they are two distinct obligations. FRS 105 accounts are the statutory financial statements prepared under the micro-entities reporting framework and filed at Companies House. A CT600 is a Corporation Tax Return submitted to HMRC to report the company's taxable profit and calculate the tax due. The figures are related, but the documents, the recipients and the basis of preparation are not the same, and one does not replace the other.

Typically we need your accounting records for the period — bookkeeping or a trial balance, bank statements, sales and purchase information, payroll details if you employ staff, and evidence of any assets, loans or other liabilities at the period end. Details of the previous year's accounts are also helpful for consistency. Once we have that picture, we can assess how the micro-entities regime applies and prepare the financial statements accordingly.
