FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts in South West London

FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts are prepared under the financial reporting framework that applies to qualifying micro-entities in the UK. If your company qualifies for the micro-entities regime and chooses to apply it, FRS 105 sets out how your financial statements should be put together — from the balance sheet and profit and loss account through to the disclosure notes and the form in which those accounts are filed. Because eligibility depends on a combination of size conditions and other rules and exclusions, the right approach is to look at your company’s own circumstances rather than assume the regime applies. Professional preparation helps ensure your FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts are built from accurate financial records, presented consistently from one year to the next, and prepared in line with the reporting requirements that apply to your company. For directors and business owners across South West London, that means fewer unanswered questions, a clearer picture of your financial position, and accounts that are ready to be used for their intended purpose.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

─── FRS 105 EXPLAINED

FRS 105 Explained: The Accounting Framework for Micro-Entities

FRS 105 is the UK financial reporting standard written specifically for micro-entities — the smallest companies that qualify for, and choose to apply, the micro-entities regime. In plain terms, it is the rulebook that tells you how your annual financial statements should be prepared when you use that regime. It is deliberately simpler than the standards used by larger companies: FRS 105 financial statements tend to be shorter, with fewer disclosure notes and a more straightforward measurement approach, which keeps the accounts proportionate to the size and complexity of a micro-entity. Two things are worth being clear about. First, FRS 105 is a choice, not an automatic entitlement — a qualifying company can apply the micro-entities regime, and FRS 105 applies when that regime is chosen. Second, FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts are accounting and reporting documents; they are not the same thing as a Corporation Tax Return (CT600), which is a separate filing made to HMRC. Understanding that distinction early helps you plan both your accounts preparation and your tax filing without confusing the two. If you run a small company in South West London and want to know how FRS 105 would work in practice, a short conversation about your circumstances is usually the quickest way to get clarity.

Who Can Use FRS 105 in the UK?

FRS 105 is designed for UK companies that qualify for the micro-entities regime and choose to apply it. Two elements are needed: your company must meet the eligibility conditions, and it must actually adopt the regime, because FRS 105 applies when that choice is made rather than automatically. On the size side, for accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least 2 of the following 3 applicable conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees. These conditions are a useful guide, but they are not the full test. Other eligibility rules and exclusions can apply, and some companies are prevented from using the regime altogether — so meeting the size thresholds alone does not guarantee that FRS 105 is available to you. If you run a company in South West London and want to understand where you stand, we can review your circumstances against the current requirements and explain which accounting framework is likely to suit you.

─── What We Review

Everything Your Micro-Entity Company Is Required to Get Right

Most compliance problems are not deliberate. They come from a missed deadline, an accounts template that no longer matches FRS 105, or dividends taken without the paperwork to support them. Our review covers each area in turn and reports back in plain English.

FRS 105 Balance Sheet

A statutory balance sheet prepared to the FRS 105 format, using the reduced disclosure the micro-entities regime allows.

Profit & Loss Account

A profit and loss account prepared for your own records and for your Corporation Tax computation, without public filing.

Required Notes & Disclosures

Preparation of the notes and disclosures required for the company's accounts under the applicable reporting requirements.

Corporation Tax Support

Separate Corporation Tax support can be provided where included in the agreed service. The Corporation Tax calculation is governed by tax rules rather than FRS 105.

Your FRS 105 accounts filed with Companies House in the correct format, before your accounts filing deadline.

Director Copy Pack

A full signed copy of your accounts and tax return, ready for your bank, mortgage lender or accountant records.

Professionally Prepared FRS 105 Accounts and Accurate Financial Reporting

Preparing FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts properly starts with good records. We work from your bookkeeping, bank information, invoices, expense records and other supporting documents to build a set of financial statements that reflect what actually happened in your business during the period. From there, the accounts are prepared in line with the reporting requirements that apply to your company under the micro-entities regime, including the format of the balance sheet, profit and loss account and any disclosures that are relevant to your circumstances. It is important to keep two obligations separate. Preparing and filing your financial statements is one task; meeting your Corporation Tax obligations, including any CT600 submission to HMRC, is another. A Confirmation Statement is a further, distinct filing. We can help you understand how these fit together and where each one applies, so nothing is overlooked. We do not claim that any set of accounts is guaranteed to be accepted or that filing is automatically compliant — what we can do is prepare your FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts carefully, accurately and on the basis of the information and requirements relevant to your company, and explain the judgements behind them in language you can follow.

FRS 105 is the UK financial reporting standard for micro-entities. It sets out how a qualifying company that chooses to apply the micro-entities regime should prepare its annual financial statements. The standard is intentionally simplified compared with those used by larger companies, with fewer disclosure requirements and a more straightforward measurement basis, so the accounts stay proportionate to the size of the business.

FRS 105 can be used by companies that qualify for the micro-entities regime and decide to apply it. Qualifying is not simply a matter of being small — several conditions and exclusions can affect eligibility, and certain types of company are excluded altogether. The practical starting point is to check your company's size against the applicable criteria and then confirm that no exclusion applies before assuming FRS 105 is available.

No. The micro-entities regime is an available accounting regime for qualifying companies rather than a mandatory one. A company that qualifies may choose to apply it — and FRS 105 applies when that regime is chosen — or it may instead prepare its accounts under a different framework, such as FRS 102. The choice has consequences for the level of disclosure and the way figures are presented, so it is worth considering which framework suits your company and its users.

For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least 2 of 3 applicable size conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees. Meeting those size conditions is not the whole story, however — other rules and exclusions apply, and some companies cannot use the regime regardless of their size. Eligibility should therefore be confirmed against your company's specific circumstances.

Both are UK financial reporting standards, but they are aimed at different sizes of company. FRS 105 is the micro-entities standard and is the more streamlined of the two, with fewer disclosures and simpler measurement requirements. FRS 102 is the standard generally used by small and larger entities and covers more areas in greater depth. Moving between frameworks can affect how items are recognised and what appears in the notes, so it is not simply a matter of choosing the shorter document.

Preparing FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts and filing them are two related but separate steps. Where a company prepares accounts under the micro-entities regime, those accounts form the basis of the financial statements it delivers to Companies House, subject to the filing options and requirements that apply to it. Filing deadlines and formats depend on your company's situation, so it is worth confirming exactly what needs to be delivered and when well ahead of time.

Yes. FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts are the company's financial statements prepared under the micro-entities regime. A CT600 is a Corporation Tax Return submitted to HMRC, which is a distinct filing with its own requirements. Although the figures in your accounts will normally inform your tax return, they are not the same document and are not submitted to the same place. A Confirmation Statement is a further separate filing.

In most cases we would ask for your bookkeeping or accounting records for the period, bank and credit card statements, sales and purchase information, payroll details if you employ staff, details of any assets purchased or sold, and information about loans, directors' transactions and share capital. Anything unusual that happened during the year is worth flagging early. The more complete and organised your records are, the more straightforward the preparation process tends to be.

A newly incorporated company may be able to use FRS 105 in its first accounting period if it qualifies for the micro-entities regime and chooses to apply it. In practice, first-year accounts often involve additional considerations — for example around the period covered, start-up costs and initial transactions — so it is sensible to confirm eligibility and the appropriate framework before preparing anything. It is not something that can be assumed simply because a company is new and small.
