FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts in Perth

If your company qualifies for the UK micro-entities regime and you have chosen to apply it, FRS 105 provides the financial reporting framework used to prepare your annual accounts. These FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts are a simplified form of statutory financial statements, designed around the needs of smaller companies and the people who rely on their figures. For directors in Perth and across Perthshire, the appeal is straightforward: a reporting framework that keeps the accounts lean while still presenting a true picture of the company’s financial position. Professional preparation starts with checking whether your company actually meets the eligibility conditions, then building the accounts from your records so they are consistent, clearly presented and prepared in line with the chosen framework. Eligibility is never automatic, and the micro-entities regime is one option among several, so it is worth confirming your position before the accounts are drafted.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

─── FRS 105 EXPLAINED

What Is FRS 105 and Why Does It Matter?

FRS 105 is the UK financial reporting standard that sits behind the micro-entities regime. In plain terms, it is a set of rules that tells a qualifying micro-entity how to measure and present its figures in its annual financial statements. Where a company qualifies for the micro-entities regime and decides to use it, FRS 105 is the standard that applies. The result is a shorter, simpler set of accounts than you would see under a fuller framework: a balance sheet, a profit and loss account and a small number of notes, with reduced disclosure requirements and less complex measurement rules. For a director running a small company in Perth, that can mean less time spent on reporting detail and more focus on the business itself. The key point is that the micro-entities regime is an available choice for companies that qualify, not an automatic label, and FRS 105 applies when that choice is made.

Who Can Use FRS 105 in the UK?

FRS 105 is available to UK companies that qualify for the micro-entities regime and choose to apply it. For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least 2 of 3 applicable size conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees during the period. Those figures are a starting point rather than the whole test. Other eligibility rules and exclusions can apply, and in some cases the position depends on the type of entity, its structure or the way it reports, so meeting the size conditions does not by itself guarantee that FRS 105 can be used. It is also a choice: a qualifying company may still prefer a different framework. Directors in Perth considering FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts should have their circumstances reviewed against the current rules before the accounts are prepared.

A company generally needs to meet at least 2 of these 3 conditions.

─── What We Review

Everything Your Micro-Entity Company Is Required to Get Right

Most compliance problems are not deliberate. They come from a missed deadline, an accounts template that no longer matches FRS 105, or dividends taken without the paperwork to support them. Our review covers each area in turn and reports back in plain English.

FRS 105 Balance Sheet

A statutory balance sheet prepared to the FRS 105 format, using the reduced disclosure the micro-entities regime allows.

Profit & Loss Account

A profit and loss account prepared for your own records and for your Corporation Tax computation, without public filing.

Required Notes & Disclosures

Preparation of the notes and disclosures required for the company's accounts under the applicable reporting requirements.

Corporation Tax Support

Separate Corporation Tax support can be provided where included in the agreed service. The Corporation Tax calculation is governed by tax rules rather than FRS 105.

Companies House Filing

Your FRS 105 accounts filed with Companies House in the correct format, before your accounts filing deadline.

Director Copy Pack

A full signed copy of your accounts and tax return, ready for your bank, mortgage lender or accountant records.

Professionally Prepared FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts for Perth Companies

Preparing FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts is about accurate financial reporting built on solid records. We work from your bookkeeping, bank information, sales and purchase records and asset details, then prepare financial statements that reflect your company’s circumstances and follow the reporting requirements that apply to the micro-entities regime. The accounts themselves are one piece of the picture: filing statutory accounts with Companies House is handled as a separate step, and your Corporation Tax obligations, including the CT600 return submitted to HMRC, are separate again and follow tax rules rather than the accounting framework. Being clear about that distinction matters, because a set of FRS 105 financial statements does not replace a Corporation Tax Return, and filing accounts does not settle your tax position. Our role is to prepare the accounts carefully and explain what has been done, so you can make informed decisions about your filings.

FRS 105 is the UK financial reporting standard for entities that qualify for, and choose to apply, the micro-entities regime. It sets out how such a company measures and presents its figures in its annual financial statements. In practice it produces a shorter set of accounts, typically a balance sheet, a profit and loss account and a limited number of notes, with reduced disclosure compared with fuller reporting frameworks.

FRS 105 is intended for companies that qualify for the micro-entities regime and decide to apply it. Qualifying is a two-part test: the company must fall within the size conditions and must not be caught by any of the applicable exclusions, and even then applying the regime is a choice rather than an obligation. Because the rules and exclusions are not identical for every company, it is worth checking your specific position before the accounts are prepared under this framework.

No. A company that qualifies for the micro-entities regime can choose whether to apply it. Many qualifying companies do, because the reporting is simpler, but others prefer a fuller framework such as FRS 102 for reasons of their own, including how lenders, investors or group companies expect to see the figures. The important point is that qualification opens the door to the regime; it does not force you through it.

For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least 2 of the 3 applicable size conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees. Meeting the size conditions is not the whole story, because other eligibility rules and exclusions can apply. If you are unsure how these tests apply to your company, we can review the position with you.

FRS 102 is a broader financial reporting framework used by a much wider range of companies, and it carries more detailed measurement rules and far more disclosure. FRS 105 is deliberately narrower and simpler, available only to qualifying micro-entities. Accounts prepared under FRS 105 are typically shorter, with fewer notes and less complex measurement, which suits the needs of smaller companies. The right framework depends on your size, structure and who needs to read the accounts.

Where a company prepares its statutory annual accounts under FRS 105, those accounts are generally delivered to Companies House in the usual way, subject to the filing options available to small and micro-entity companies. Filing the accounts is a separate exercise from dealing with Corporation Tax. We can prepare the financial statements and help you understand what needs to be delivered and when, based on your company's own filing dates.

Yes, they are two different things. FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts are the company's financial statements, prepared under the accounting framework. A CT600 is a Corporation Tax Return submitted to HMRC, and it is calculated under tax rules, which do not always match the figures in the accounts. Adjustments such as capital allowances, disallowable expenses and timing differences can create a gap between accounting profit and taxable profit, so a set of accounts being finalised does not mean the tax return is finished.

We usually start with your bookkeeping or accounting records, bank and credit card statements, sales and purchase information, payroll details for the period, and records of any assets bought or sold. Details of loans, director's transactions, VAT returns and any previous year's accounts are also helpful, as is an indication of what has changed in the business since the last set of figures. The more complete the records, the smoother the preparation process tends to be.
