FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts in Glastonbury

FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts in Glastonbury are prepared under the financial reporting framework that applies to qualifying micro-entities which have chosen to apply the micro-entities regime. FRS 105 is a distinct UK standard rather than a trimmed-down version of small company accounts, and it brings its own presentation, measurement and disclosure requirements. Working with accountants who deal with FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts regularly helps ensure your financial statements reflect your actual trading activity, are set out in the expected format, and are supported by records that clearly explain the figures behind them. Because eligibility depends on your company’s size and wider circumstances, and because the regime is optional rather than automatic, professional preparation starts with a proper review: confirming whether the micro-entities regime is available to your company, whether it is the right fit for how you trade, and how your year-end figures should be presented. If you are a director or business owner in Glastonbury weighing up your options, we can talk you through what FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts involve, what information is needed and how the accounts fit alongside your other filing obligations before anything is finalised.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

─── FRS 105 EXPLAINED

FRS 105 Explained: The UK Micro-Entities Regime in Plain English

FRS 105 is the financial reporting standard that applies when a qualifying company chooses to use the UK micro-entities regime. In simple terms, it is a set of rules telling you how a micro-entity’s annual accounts should be put together — what the balance sheet and profit and loss account look like, how items are measured, and which notes need to be included. It sits within UK GAAP and is deliberately simpler than the standards used by larger companies: there is far less disclosure, valuation is kept straightforward, and the resulting financial statements are shorter and easier for a director to follow. The important point is that the micro-entities regime is a choice. A company that meets the size conditions may qualify, but it is not obliged to use the regime, and other eligibility rules and exclusions can apply. FRS 105 applies when that regime is chosen for the year in question. For a Glastonbury-based director, that means two decisions rather than one: confirming the company qualifies, and deciding whether FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts are the most suitable way to report your results.

Who Can Use FRS 105 in the UK?

FRS 105 is intended for companies that qualify for the UK micro-entities regime and choose to apply it — it is not available automatically to every small business. For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least 2 of 3 applicable size conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees during the accounting period. Meeting those size conditions is an important first step, but it is not the end of the assessment. Other eligibility rules and exclusions can apply, and some companies are prevented from using the regime regardless of their size, while groups and companies with particular characteristics may face additional considerations. Eligibility should also be reviewed each year, since a company that qualifies now may not qualify later, or may prefer to move to a different framework as it grows. If you run a company in or around Glastonbury, we can look at your turnover, balance sheet and headcount position alongside your wider circumstances and explain whether FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts are likely to be available to you, and whether choosing the regime makes commercial sense.

A company generally needs to meet at least 2 of these 3 conditions.

─── What We Review

Everything Your Micro-Entity Company Is Required to Get Right

Most compliance problems are not deliberate. They come from a missed deadline, an accounts template that no longer matches FRS 105, or dividends taken without the paperwork to support them. Our review covers each area in turn and reports back in plain English.

FRS 105 Balance Sheet

A statutory balance sheet prepared to the FRS 105 format, using the reduced disclosure the micro-entities regime allows.

Profit & Loss Account

A profit and loss account prepared for your own records and for your Corporation Tax computation, without public filing.

Required Notes & Disclosures

Preparation of the notes and disclosures required for the company's accounts under the applicable reporting requirements.

Corporation Tax Support

Separate Corporation Tax support can be provided where included in the agreed service. The Corporation Tax calculation is governed by tax rules rather than FRS 105.

Your FRS 105 accounts filed with Companies House in the correct format, before your accounts filing deadline.

Director Copy Pack

A full signed copy of your accounts and tax return, ready for your bank, mortgage lender or accountant records.

Professionally Prepared FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts in Glastonbury

Preparing FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts properly starts with your underlying records — bookkeeping, bank transactions, sales and purchase documentation, payroll information, asset purchases and any loans or director balances — and builds the financial statements from there in line with the applicable reporting requirements. The aim is straightforward and accurate financial reporting: a balance sheet and profit and loss account that reflect what actually happened in the period, with notes that explain the position clearly and consistently with the accounting framework being applied. It also helps to keep the different obligations separate in your mind. Preparing a set of FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts is one exercise; filing those accounts with Companies House is a separate step; and a Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is a different submission altogether, made to HMRC, which draws on your accounts but also involves tax adjustments such as disallowable expenses and capital allowances. Keeping these workstreams distinct reduces confusion and makes it easier to see what has been submitted, to whom, and why the figures differ. Where relevant, we can prepare the financial statements and support the filing process, and deal with your Corporation Tax obligations as a separate piece of work.

FRS 105 is the UK financial reporting standard for entities that apply the micro-entities regime. It forms part of UK GAAP and sets out how a micro-entity's annual financial statements should be prepared, including the format of the balance sheet and profit and loss account, how items are measured and which limited notes are required. Compared with the standards used by small and larger companies, it is deliberately streamlined: measurement is kept simple, there is far less disclosure, and the accounts are shorter and easier to read. FRS 105 applies when a qualifying company has chosen to use the micro-entities regime for that accounting period.

No. The micro-entities regime is an available accounting regime, not a mandatory one. A company that qualifies may choose to apply it, but it may equally decide to prepare accounts under a different framework, such as the small companies regime with FRS 102 Section 1A, where that is appropriate for its circumstances. FRS 105 applies when the micro-entities regime is the regime that has been chosen. It is also worth noting that once a framework is applied, the choice should be made consistently and with an eye on future years, so it is worth discussing the decision rather than defaulting to it.

For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least 2 of the following 3 conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees during the period. Meeting the size conditions is not the whole story, though. Other eligibility rules, exclusions and specific circumstances can affect whether the micro-entities regime is available, so thresholds alone should not be treated as confirmation that a company qualifies. The position also needs checking each year, because a growing company can move out of the regime.

Both sit within UK GAAP, but they are aimed at different sizes of company and offer different levels of flexibility and disclosure. FRS 105 is the micro-entities standard: it is highly simplified, with restricted measurement options and a much shorter set of notes. FRS 102 is used by small and larger entities, with Section 1A providing the small companies variant; it allows more accounting policy choices and requires considerably more disclosure. In practice, choosing FRS 105 means simpler, more compact FRS 105 financial statements, while FRS 102 gives more detailed information to readers such as lenders. The right choice depends on your size, your circumstances and who needs to see the accounts.

If you run a limited company, annual accounts generally have to be filed at Companies House, and micro-entity accounts prepared under FRS 105 are usually filed in the simplified micro-entity format. Filing usually involves submitting the balance sheet and the relevant notes rather than the full profit and loss account, which is why directors often find the filing simpler than the preparation work behind it. The accounts also need to be issued to the company's members. The deadline that applies to your company depends on its own year end and filing history, so check the date that applies to you rather than assuming a fixed period.

Yes, they are two different things. FRS 105 accounts are the financial statements prepared under the micro-entities regime; a Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is a separate submission made to HMRC to report taxable profits and calculate the corporation tax due. The accounts figures are usually the starting point for the tax return, but the tax computation then adjusts for items such as disallowable expenses, capital allowances and other timing differences. Filing your accounts at Companies House does not settle your corporation tax position, and filing a CT600 does not replace the accounts. Both need to be dealt with, and the figures will often differ.

The exact list depends on how your business operates, but most directors find it useful to gather: bank and credit card statements covering the period, sales invoices and receipts, purchase invoices and expense records, payroll or subcontractor information, details of equipment, vehicles or other assets bought or sold, loan agreements and director's loan balances, stock or work in progress figures, and a copy of the previous year's accounts. If your bookkeeping is up to date in accounting software, giving us access is usually the quickest route. If records are incomplete, we can help piece them together — it just takes a little longer, so earlier is better.

Companies House has been introducing changes to the way accounts are filed as part of wider company law reform, including a move towards accounts being filed using commercial or third-party software rather than manually entering figures online. Transitional arrangements have been built into the timetable, and the detail continues to develop. Because the position can change, it is sensible to check the current Companies House guidance for your filing year, or ask us to confirm what applies to your company, rather than relying on information you read some time ago. For many Glastonbury directors, the practical impact is a change in how the accounts are submitted rather than in how they are prepared.
