FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts in Bradley Stoke

FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts in Bradley Stoke are prepared under the financial reporting framework that applies to qualifying micro-entities who choose to use the UK micro-entities regime. FRS 105 is the simplest reporting framework available to UK companies, and it is designed for businesses that meet the relevant size conditions and are not excluded from the regime. Because eligibility depends on more than a single figure — and can change as a company grows — professional preparation starts with a proper review of your circumstances, including your turnover, balance sheet total, average employee numbers and any rules or exclusions that may apply. From there, your FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts can be built up from your bookkeeping and financial records, with the disclosure requirements of the framework applied to your company’s own figures rather than a generic template. If you are based in Bradley Stoke or the surrounding Bristol area and want your micro-entity accounts prepared carefully and explained in plain English, we can help you understand what applies and prepare FRS 105 financial statements that genuinely reflect your position.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

─── FRS 105 EXPLAINED

FRS 105 Explained: What Micro Entity Accounts Mean for Your Company

Put simply, FRS 105 is the accounting rulebook for the smallest companies in the UK. It sits alongside the micro-entities regime in company law: if your company qualifies as a micro-entity and you decide to apply that regime, FRS 105 is the financial reporting standard your FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts are prepared under. It keeps things deliberately straightforward. Accounts are prepared on a historical cost basis, which means assets are generally held at their original cost rather than revalued, and some of the more complex areas — such as fair value adjustments and deferred tax — are not recognised. The notes to the accounts are also much shorter than under a fuller framework. That simplicity is the point: it reduces the time, cost and complexity of producing statutory accounts for a small trading company. It also means the accounts tell a simpler story, so if a bank, landlord or investor needs more detail, a fuller framework may suit you better. Choosing FRS 105 is a decision about the reporting framework, not something that happens automatically to every small company. Part of our job is helping you see what your figures look like under FRS 105 and whether the micro-entities regime is the right fit, so your micro-entity accounts are both accurate and appropriate for the way your business is run.

Who Can Use FRS 105 in the UK? Micro Entity Accounts Eligibility in Bradley Stoke

FRS 105 is intended for companies that qualify for the micro-entities regime and choose to apply it — it is not open to every small company, and it never applies automatically. For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least 2 of the 3 applicable conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees. Size is only part of the test. Other eligibility rules and exclusions can apply, so a company that meets the size conditions is not guaranteed to qualify, and a company that does qualify may still decide that FRS 105 is not the right framework for it. Common reasons for looking at a fuller framework include lender or investor requirements, group reporting, or a preference for more detailed disclosures. In practice, the sensible approach for a Bradley Stoke company is to check both the numbers and the wider rules before deciding, and to revisit the position each year as turnover, headcount and your balance sheet change over time.

─── What We Review

Everything Your Micro-Entity Company Is Required to Get Right

Most compliance problems are not deliberate. They come from a missed deadline, an accounts template that no longer matches FRS 105, or dividends taken without the paperwork to support them. Our review covers each area in turn and reports back in plain English.

Professionally Prepared FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts for Accurate Financial Reporting

Preparing FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts is about more than entering figures into a template. The accounts need to reflect your company’s actual transactions and position for the period, apply the micro-entity framework correctly, and be consistent with the records behind them. We prepare financial statements from your bookkeeping, bank records, invoices and supporting documents, and we look at the year-end position as a whole: debtors and creditors, stock, fixed assets, loans, and any accruals or prepayments that need to be reflected. The accounts are then prepared for the directors to review and approve, ready for delivery to Companies House where the company is required to file. Separately, and on a different timescale, there may be a Corporation Tax Return (CT600) to submit to HMRC, along with other company obligations such as a Confirmation Statement. These are distinct filings with distinct rules, and we can help you keep track of which is which. Our role is to bring proper process and clear explanations to the work — not to promise a particular outcome, but to make sure your FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts are prepared carefully, on a consistent basis, and with the framework’s requirements in mind.

FRS 105 is the UK financial reporting standard that applies to the micro-entities regime — its full title is FRS 105, the Financial Reporting Standard applicable to the Micro-entities Regime. It sets out how qualifying companies that choose the micro-entities regime prepare their financial statements: a historical cost basis, fewer notes to the accounts, and no revaluation, fair value or deferred tax accounting. If your company qualifies and you decide to use the regime, FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts are the accounts you would prepare.

FRS 105 is available to companies that qualify as micro-entities and choose to apply the micro-entities regime. For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least 2 of the 3 applicable conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees. Other eligibility rules and exclusions can apply, so meeting the size conditions does not guarantee eligibility. A newly incorporated company can adopt FRS 105 for its first period if it qualifies and chooses the regime, but the position should be reviewed each year as the business changes.

No. The micro-entities regime is an available accounting regime rather than a mandatory one. A company that qualifies can choose to apply it and prepare FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts, or it can prepare accounts under a fuller framework such as FRS 102. Some businesses prefer FRS 102 because a lender, investor or parent company wants more detail, or because they want to use options such as revaluing property. Whichever framework is chosen should be applied consistently and be appropriate for your circumstances.

For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least 2 of these 3 conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average number of employees of no more than 10. Which period you are preparing for matters, because earlier periods were assessed against different figures. There are also other rules and exclusions in the regime, so the size tests alone are not the whole story.

FRS 102 is a fuller framework. It permits more accounting options — for example revaluation of assets and, in some circumstances, fair value measurement — and it recognises deferred tax, while requiring considerably more disclosure in the notes. FRS 105 is deliberately simpler: accounts are prepared on a historical cost basis with far fewer notes. The trade-off is that FRS 105 accounts are quicker to produce but carry less information, which can matter if a bank, landlord or potential investor wants a more detailed view of the business.

Filing is separate from preparation. Where a company is required to file its accounts, the FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts must be prepared, reviewed and approved by the directors, then delivered to Companies House by the relevant deadline. Micro-entity accounts can be filed with reduced disclosure compared with other small company accounts, but they still have to be prepared properly and be consistent with the company's records. Companies House does not endorse or approve the content of accounts, and the exact filing format depends on your company's circumstances and current Companies House rules.

Yes. FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts are the statutory financial statements prepared under the accounting framework, while a CT600 is the Corporation Tax Return submitted to HMRC. They are usually prepared from the same underlying records, but they are different documents, governed by different rules and submitted through different routes. Profit shown in the accounts is not automatically the same as taxable profit, because tax adjustments may be needed — for example for disallowable expenses, capital allowances or other timing differences.

In most cases we need your accounting records for the period, bank and credit card statements, sales invoices and purchase receipts, payroll information, and details of what the company owns and owes at the year end — including fixed assets, stock, loans and hire purchase agreements. Prior year accounts and your company's filing history are also helpful. If you already use bookkeeping software, a report or export is usually enough rather than re-keying everything, and we will tell you if anything else is needed once we understand how your records are kept.
