FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts in Betchworth

If your company qualifies for the UK micro-entities regime and you have chosen to apply it, your annual financial statements are prepared under FRS 105 — the financial reporting standard written specifically for micro-entities. FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts in Betchworth are typically shorter and simpler than accounts prepared under other frameworks, but they still need to reflect your actual transactions, balances and circumstances accurately. Professional preparation helps you work from your bookkeeping and financial records, consider the disclosure requirements that apply to your company, and present the figures in a format suitable for the company’s filing obligations. It also gives you a chance to review the numbers before they are finalised, ask questions about how items have been treated, and understand what the accounts do and do not cover. Whether you are filing for the first time or moving across from another framework, we can help you prepare FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts that suit a company of your size and shape.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

─── FRS 105 EXPLAINED

FRS 105 Explained: What It Means for Micro-Entities

FRS 105 is the UK financial reporting standard that sits behind the micro-entities regime. In simple terms, it sets out how a qualifying micro-entity should prepare its annual accounts when it decides to use that regime. The idea is to keep reporting proportionate: the accounts are built around the company’s actual transactions and balances, using a simpler measurement basis than the larger frameworks, and with a lighter set of notes and disclosures. Because the micro-entities regime is optional, using FRS 105 is a choice rather than an automatic consequence of being small — a qualifying company can instead apply a different framework if it prefers, and FRS 105 applies when the micro-entities regime is the regime that has been selected. This matters because the framework you choose affects how the figures are measured, what appears in the notes, and how the accounts compare year on year. Understanding that choice early makes the whole year-end process clearer and helps you avoid surprises.

Who Can Use FRS 105 in the UK?

FRS 105 is available to companies in the UK that qualify for the micro-entities regime and choose to apply it. For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least 2 of 3 applicable size conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees. Those figures give a useful indication of where the line sits, but they are only part of the test. Other eligibility rules and exclusions can apply depending on the company’s legal form and the nature of its activities, and meeting the size conditions does not by itself guarantee that the micro-entities regime is available. It is also worth remembering that the regime is optional — a qualifying company may instead choose a different UK reporting framework. Many companies based in and around Betchworth review their position each year, because turnover, headcount and balance sheet size can shift from one period to the next.

A company generally needs to meet at least 2 of these 3 conditions.

─── What We Review

Everything Your Micro-Entity Company Is Required to Get Right

Most compliance problems are not deliberate. They come from a missed deadline, an accounts template that no longer matches FRS 105, or dividends taken without the paperwork to support them. Our review covers each area in turn and reports back in plain English.

FRS 105 Balance Sheet

A statutory balance sheet prepared to the FRS 105 format, using the reduced disclosure the micro-entities regime allows.

Profit & Loss Account

A profit and loss account prepared for your own records and for your Corporation Tax computation, without public filing.

Required Notes & Disclosures

Preparation of the notes and disclosures required for the company's accounts under the applicable reporting requirements.

Corporation Tax Support

Separate Corporation Tax support can be provided where included in the agreed service. The Corporation Tax calculation is governed by tax rules rather than FRS 105.

Startups & Small Companies

Dormant & Low-Activity Companies

Dormant company accounts and FRS 105 accounts for LLPs that meet the micro-entity thresholds.

Professionally Prepared FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts

Good FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts start with good records. We work from your bookkeeping, bank statements, sales and purchase information, payroll details and any other supporting documents you hold, then build the financial statements around the figures those records support. The preparation process covers the statement of financial position, the notes that apply to your circumstances, and the presentation of the accounts in a form suitable for submission. It is worth separating out the different obligations here: preparing and filing the company’s accounts with Companies House is one task, while a Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is a separate submission made to HMRC. The two are related, because they draw on the same underlying results, but they are not the same document and they are not filed in the same place. We can help you keep those threads distinct, so you know what is being prepared, what is being filed, and where.

FRS 105 is the UK financial reporting standard for micro-entities. It sets out how a qualifying company should prepare its annual accounts when it chooses to apply the micro-entities regime. Compared with the larger UK frameworks, it uses a simpler measurement basis and requires fewer notes and disclosures, which keeps reporting proportionate to the size and complexity of a micro-entity.

FRS 105 is intended for companies that qualify for the micro-entities regime and decide to apply it. Eligibility is not simply a matter of being small: the company needs to fall within the size conditions and must not be excluded by other rules, such as its legal form or the type of business it carries on. Because the regime is optional, a qualifying company can choose a different framework instead. We can look at your specific circumstances and explain where you stand.

No. The micro-entities regime is an available accounting regime rather than a mandatory one. A company that meets the criteria can apply it, but it does not have to. Many qualifying companies choose a different UK framework, such as the small company provisions of FRS 102, because they want a different measurement basis or a fuller set of disclosures. FRS 105 applies when the micro-entities regime is the regime that has been selected for the company.

For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least 2 of 3 applicable size conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees. Meeting those size conditions is not the whole picture — other rules and exclusions can affect whether a company qualifies, so eligibility should always be confirmed against the company's own facts rather than assumed.

Both are UK financial reporting standards, but they are aimed at different audiences. FRS 105 is designed for qualifying micro-entities and keeps measurement and disclosure deliberately simple. FRS 102 is a broader framework, and its small company provisions permit things that FRS 105 does not, while generally requiring more detailed notes. In practice the choice affects how certain items are measured, what appears in the notes, and how easy it is to compare your accounts with those of similar companies.

Where a company prepares FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts for a financial year, those accounts are generally the ones used for the company's annual accounts filing with Companies House, subject to the applicable filing requirements. Filing the accounts is a separate exercise from calculating and submitting Corporation Tax, even though both are based on the same underlying results for the period.

Yes, they are distinct. The FRS 105 accounts are the company's financial statements, prepared under the micro-entities regime and used for the annual accounts filing. A CT600 is a Corporation Tax Return submitted to HMRC. The figures in the accounts usually inform the tax return, but the return is its own document, goes to a different authority, and is subject to its own rules and deadlines.

Typically we would ask for your bookkeeping records or accounting software access, bank statements, sales invoices and purchase information, payroll records if you employ staff, details of any loans or assets, and any correspondence relating to the company's structure. It also helps to know whether anything unusual happened during the period, such as a change in ownership or a significant one-off transaction. The more complete the records, the smoother the preparation process tends to be.
