FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts in Altrincham

If your company qualifies for the UK micro-entities regime and chooses to apply it, FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts provide the financial reporting framework for your annual accounts. For directors in Altrincham and the surrounding areas, that means financial statements built from your underlying accounting records, prepared in line with the simplified measurement and disclosure requirements that apply to qualifying micro-entities. Professional preparation helps ensure the figures, the limited notes and the Companies House filing are considered together and approached consistently, rather than being pieced together at the last minute. Eligibility is neither automatic nor permanent, and applying the micro-entities regime is a choice rather than a default, so the starting point is always a look at your company’s circumstances and whether FRS 105 is the appropriate framework for the accounting period in question.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

─── FRS 105 EXPLAINED

What Is FRS 105? The Micro-Entities Regime Explained

FRS 105 is the UK financial reporting standard written specifically for companies that qualify as micro-entities. It works hand in hand with the micro-entities regime in UK company law: companies that meet the relevant conditions can choose to apply that regime, and FRS 105 is the accounting standard that applies when they do. The framework is deliberately streamlined. Assets are generally measured on a historical cost basis, revaluations and certain fair value measurements are not permitted, and the notes to the accounts are kept to a minimum. In practice, that means shorter, simpler financial statements than you would expect under FRS 102, while still presenting the company’s financial position and performance in accordance with the applicable rules. Because the regime is optional, it is worth confirming that your company qualifies and that FRS 105 suits your circumstances before the accounts are prepared for the year.

Who Can Use FRS 105 in the UK?

FRS 105 is available to UK companies that qualify for the micro-entities regime and choose to apply it. For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least 2 of 3 applicable size conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees. Those conditions are a starting point rather than a guarantee of eligibility — the rules also exclude certain types of entity, and other requirements can affect whether the regime is available in a particular period. Because eligibility has to be assessed period by period, and because applying the micro-entities regime remains a choice, it is worth reviewing your position each year alongside your other reporting obligations. If you are based in Altrincham or nearby and are unsure whether FRS 105 applies to your company, we can talk through the criteria with you.

─── What We Review

Everything Your Micro-Entity Company Is Required to Get Right

Most compliance problems are not deliberate. They come from a missed deadline, an accounts template that no longer matches FRS 105, or dividends taken without the paperwork to support them. Our review covers each area in turn and reports back in plain English.

FRS 105 Balance Sheet

A statutory balance sheet prepared to the FRS 105 format, using the reduced disclosure the micro-entities regime allows.

Profit & Loss Account

A profit and loss account prepared for your own records and for your Corporation Tax computation, without public filing.

Required Notes & Disclosures

Preparation of the notes and disclosures required for the company's accounts under the applicable reporting requirements.

Corporation Tax Support

Separate Corporation Tax support can be provided where included in the agreed service. The Corporation Tax calculation is governed by tax rules rather than FRS 105.

Companies House Filing

Your FRS 105 accounts filed with Companies House in the correct format, before your accounts filing deadline.

Director Copy Pack

A full signed copy of your accounts and tax return, ready for your bank, mortgage lender or accountant records.

FRS 105 Support for Micro-Entities Across the UK

From one-director businesses and freelancers to startups, consultants and online businesses that qualify for the micro-entities regime.

One-Director Companies

Straightforward FRS 105 accounts and Corporation Tax filing for owner-managed limited companies.

Freelancers & Contractors

Startups & Small Companies

Practical support for newly incorporated companies filing their first set of micro-entity accounts.

Dormant & Low-Activity Companies

Dormant company accounts and FRS 105 accounts for LLPs that meet the micro-entity thresholds.

Accurate, Professionally Prepared FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts

Sound FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts begin with complete and accurate records. We work from your bookkeeping, bank statements, sales and purchase information and supporting documents to prepare financial statements that are consistent with the micro-entity framework and reflect how your company actually trades. That covers the primary statements, the limited notes required under FRS 105, and the figures used for the accounts filed at Companies House. It is worth being clear about what sits where: filing statutory accounts at Companies House and submitting a Corporation Tax Return (CT600) to HMRC are separate exercises with different requirements, and a Confirmation Statement is separate again. We help you pull the information together, prepare the FRS 105 accounts and coordinate the various filings so that each obligation is handled on its own terms, with any follow-up questions dealt with promptly.

FRS 105 is the UK financial reporting standard for micro-entities. It sets out how qualifying companies that use the micro-entities regime should prepare their annual accounts, with simplified measurement rules and reduced disclosure requirements compared with larger frameworks. Accounts prepared under FRS 105 typically include a small number of primary statements and limited notes, which keeps preparation more straightforward than full FRS 102 accounts — though it does not remove the need for accurate, well-kept records.

FRS 105 is intended for companies that qualify for the UK micro-entities regime and choose to apply it. The regime is open to companies that meet the size conditions and are not excluded by other rules — certain financial and investment undertakings, and companies whose securities are admitted to trading on a regulated market, fall outside it. A newly incorporated company can use FRS 105 where it qualifies, but the position should be checked for each accounting period rather than assumed.

No. The micro-entities regime is an available accounting regime, not an automatic one. A company that meets the size conditions can choose to apply it and prepare FRS 105 accounts, or it can prepare accounts under a different framework such as FRS 102. The decision often depends on the company's structure, what lenders, investors or other users of the accounts expect, and whether the simplified framework genuinely suits how the business operates.

For accounting periods beginning on or after 6 April 2025, a company generally needs to meet at least 2 of 3 applicable size conditions: turnover of no more than £1 million, a balance sheet total of no more than £500,000, and an average of no more than 10 employees. Meeting those conditions is not the whole picture — other eligibility rules and exclusions can apply, and the tests have to be assessed for the period in question. We can review your circumstances and confirm where your company stands.

FRS 102 is the standard used by most other UK companies and is far more detailed. FRS 105 is a separate, much shorter standard with simplified measurement rules and considerably fewer disclosure requirements — for example, revaluations and certain fair value measurements are not permitted, and the notes to the accounts are kept to a minimum. FRS 102 accounts give readers more information but take more work to prepare, while FRS 105 exchanges some of that detail for simplicity and lower reporting overhead.

Yes. Where a company prepares FRS 105 accounts as its statutory financial statements, those accounts are filed at Companies House in the normal way. This is separate from Corporation Tax, which is dealt with through HMRC, and separate from the Confirmation Statement. Companies House has also been changing how accounts are filed, including a move towards software-based filing, so it is sensible to check the current requirements before submitting.

Yes, they are two distinct things. FRS 105 Micro Entity Accounts deal with the company's financial statements and the accounts filed at Companies House. A CT600 is the Corporation Tax Return submitted to HMRC, using figures that are usually based on the accounts but adjusted for tax purposes. The deadlines, formats and receiving bodies differ, so the accounts and the tax return need to be prepared and filed as separate exercises.

We normally need your accounting records for the period: bookkeeping or a trial balance, bank statements, sales and purchase records, and details of any assets, loans or other balances. It also helps to know your accounting period dates, whether the company is dormant or trading, and anything unusual that happened during the year. If you are moving from another accountant or framework, last year's accounts are useful for comparison. From there we can confirm what else, if anything, is required.
