First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Stafford — Professional Preparation and Filing Support

If your company was incorporated recently, its first set of statutory accounts is a milestone that needs to be handled properly rather than left until the last moment. Micro Entity Accounts works with directors of newly incorporated and newly trading limited companies in Stafford on the practical side of this: reviewing the accounting records you hold, preparing the first year statutory accounts, and delivering them to Companies House where required. We also explain how the initial accounting period works, which reporting framework may be appropriate for your company, and why Corporation Tax is a separate matter dealt with through HMRC, usually by way of a CT600, rather than through the Companies House filing itself.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.

We worked with a few different accountants before finally settling with Accotax, and we’re really glad we did. Their team is great. Abdul is responsive and easy to reach whenever I have a question, which makes a big difference. They take the time to understand how our business works and what our needs are. They are very knowledgeable, and when they don’t have the answer straight away, they take the time to look into it and get back to us quickly. Anum, who looks after our account on a day-to-day basis, including reconciling invoices and preparing the annual accounts, is amazing. She is professional, efficient, and follows the processes we have put in place together. She's also very quickin getting back to us whenever needed. We’re very happy to work with her and hope to continue doing so for as long as possible. Overall, Accotax has made our accounting experience much smoother and easier. We see them as a long-term partner as our business continues to grow. I would 100% recommend them.

I have really impressed to date with all dealings with Accotax highly enough. From day one, they've made what can often be a complicated and stressful part of running a business feel straightforward and hassle-free. A special mention has to go to Anum, who has been friendly, incredibly responsive, and genuinely cares about providing the best possible service. No question is ever too much trouble, and she consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything is dealt with efficiently. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone looking for an accountant they can genuinely trust.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company? Guidance for New Companies in Stafford

First year accounts are the first set of annual statutory accounts a limited company prepares for its initial accounting period. They are not optional simply because the company is new. Once a company is incorporated, its directors are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records and for making sure the required accounts are prepared and filed with Companies House where applicable. The first accounting period generally begins on the date of incorporation and ends on the company’s first accounting reference date. For a company’s very first set of accounts, that period can be shorter or longer than the twelve months a director might expect from later years, and Companies House applies its own rules to how the first period and the related filing date are determined. That is one reason first year accounts are often treated differently from the routine annual accounts that follow. Where a company has not yet begun trading, or has had limited activity, the position still depends on its circumstances and the applicable rules. A quiet period does not automatically make a company dormant, and the reporting position should be considered rather than assumed. Some companies may be eligible to use the micro-entity accounting framework, with accounts prepared under FRS 105, if they meet the eligibility conditions for the relevant period. FRS 105 is the financial reporting standard applicable to qualifying entities using the micro-entity framework. Eligibility is not automatic for a new company, and the appropriate framework needs to be assessed on the facts. It is also important to keep the filings separate. Statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House. A Corporation Tax Return, such as a CT600, is submitted to HMRC where applicable, and a confirmation statement is a further and separate filing. Completing one does not complete the others, even though the financial information behind them may overlap.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Get Your First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Stafford Prepared Correctly

Directors of newly incorporated companies in Stafford often come to us with the same concern: the company has been running for a while, the records sit in a spreadsheet or an accounting app, and it is not clear what the first set of statutory accounts should contain or what has to be sent to Companies House. Micro Entity Accounts can take that on — reviewing your accounting records, preparing the statutory accounts, discussing the reporting framework that fits your circumstances, and filing with Companies House where required. We will also point out where a separate Corporation Tax position or a confirmation statement needs attention, so nothing is overlooked. Transparent fees and plain explanations are part of how we work, so you understand what is being prepared and why. If your first accounting period is approaching, involving a professional early is usually the simplest way to avoid a rushed job at the end.

They are the first set of annual statutory accounts covering a company's initial accounting period, which generally starts on the date of incorporation and ends on the company's first accounting reference date. They are prepared from the company's accounting records and typically include a balance sheet and, where applicable, a profit and loss account, together with any required notes and statements. They are separate from a Corporation Tax Return and from a confirmation statement. Because the first period can differ in length from later periods, the figures and disclosures are not always directly comparable with those in subsequent years.

The due date depends on the company's incorporation date and its accounting reference date. Companies House treats a company's first accounts differently from later ones in some respects, and the filing date is worked out from those dates rather than from a single rule that applies to every new company. Rather than assume the same timetable applies to you, it is worth checking the company's own record at Companies House. As part of preparing your accounts, we can confirm the relevant dates and what they mean for your filing.

It depends on what the company has actually done. In most cases we would expect bank transactions and statements, records of any sales or other income, business expenses and purchase invoices, details of assets bought or sold, any amounts owed to or from the company, director loan transactions, share capital information and any finance or loan agreements. Where the company runs payroll or is VAT registered, the relevant payroll and VAT records will also be needed. Not every company will have all of these, and we will tell you what is relevant to your circumstances before we start.

In many cases statutory obligations still apply, but the exact position depends on the company's circumstances and the applicable rules. Having no significant accounting transactions does not automatically mean the company is dormant — dormant status has its own conditions and separate treatment at Companies House and HMRC. It is better to check your position than to assume that no filing is needed because nothing has happened yet. We can review your situation and explain what the company is likely to need to do.

No. Statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House where required, a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted to HMRC where applicable, and a confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing that updates the public register. Filing accounts does not submit a CT600, and submitting a CT600 does not complete the Companies House accounts filing. It is also worth noting that a company's first Corporation Tax accounting period may not be exactly the same as the period covered by its statutory accounts, so the two need to be considered side by side rather than treated as one exercise.

Possibly, but it is not automatic. A company may be able to use the micro-entity framework, with accounts prepared under FRS 105, if it meets the eligibility conditions for the relevant accounting period. Some companies instead fall within the small company regime, which has its own thresholds and disclosure requirements. The right framework depends on the company's circumstances and the applicable rules for that period, and it affects how the accounts are presented and what is disclosed. We can review your position and recommend the approach that fits.

Failing to deliver required accounts to Companies House by the applicable deadline can lead to consequences, and the outcome depends on the circumstances of the case, including how late the filing is. Paying any penalty does not remove the need to file the outstanding accounts. Where an appeal is considered, eligibility depends on the individual circumstances and the applicable rules rather than being guaranteed. If you think a deadline may have been missed, it is better to act quickly and get the accounts prepared and filed as soon as possible.

Yes. Micro Entity Accounts supports directors of newly incorporated and newly trading limited companies in Stafford with preparing their first statutory accounts and filing them with Companies House where required. That includes reviewing your accounting records, identifying any gaps, agreeing the reporting framework that suits your company, and explaining how the accounts connect to your wider compliance position. Directors remain responsible for the company's statutory obligations, but professional support can make the preparation and filing process considerably clearer.
