First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Rhondda Cynon Taff — Prepared, Reviewed and Filed With Professional Support

A newly incorporated company reaches its first set of statutory accounts sooner than most directors expect, and getting that first accounting period right sets the tone for everything that follows. Micro Entity Accounts works with company directors across Rhondda Cynon Taff to prepare first-year accounts from properly maintained accounting records, review the figures with you, and deliver the accounts to Companies House where required. We will also explain which reporting framework fits your circumstances — whether that is micro-entity accounts under FRS 105 where you qualify, or a fuller small-company format — so the accounts are presented on a basis that matches your company. Where a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is also needed, we will make clear that this is a separate submission to HMRC with its own requirements, and not something that filing with Companies House takes care of.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.

I had a positive experience with Accotax. The work was completed promptly, my tax return was successfully filed, and I received a refund of overpaid tax. I found the cooperation efficient and helpful. Special thanks to Muhammad Saifullah for his assistance.

Your first filing timeline

Incorporation

Your first filing timeline depends on your company's incorporation date and accounting reference date.

Accounting reference date

Set by default to the last day of the month of incorporation, one year on.

First accounts due

Normally 21 months after incorporation at Companies House.

First CT600 due

12 months after the end of the accounting period, with tax due earlier.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company and Why Do They Matter?

First-year accounts are the first set of statutory accounts a limited company prepares for its initial accounting period. They are not optional and they are not something a company outgrows by being newly formed — a company incorporated in Rhondda Cynon Taff, whether it has been actively trading or has had very limited activity, still needs to address its statutory accounts position. The first accounting period normally begins on the date of incorporation and runs to the company’s first accounting reference date, although the length of that period can vary between companies, and the date by which accounts must be filed is worked out from the company’s own dates rather than a single deadline that applies to everyone. Statutory accounts are then delivered to Companies House where required. A company that satisfies the eligibility conditions for the relevant accounting period may be able to prepare micro-entity accounts under FRS 105, which is the financial reporting standard applicable to qualifying entities using the micro-entity framework. This is not automatic. Not every newly incorporated company qualifies, and a low turnover or a quiet first year does not, on its own, mean the micro-entity framework applies. Where it does apply, the accounts are usually more streamlined — typically a balance sheet with limited notes and a profit and loss account where applicable — but the framework still has to be selected correctly and applied consistently. It also helps to keep first-year accounts separate from the company’s other obligations. A Corporation Tax Return, such as a CT600, is submitted to HMRC where applicable and is a distinct filing with its own accounting period, which may not line up exactly with the statutory accounts period. A confirmation statement is separate again, and filing first-year accounts does not replace it or remove the need to keep Companies House records up to date. Directors remain responsible for ensuring these obligations are met, even where an accountant prepares and files the accounts on the company’s behalf.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Business Turnover

Annual Turnover of £1 Million or less. (£632,000 previously)

Balance Sheet

Balance sheet total of £500,000 or less.(£316,000 previously)

Company Size

On an average 10 or less employees
(10 or less previously)

They are the first set of statutory accounts a limited company prepares for its initial accounting period. The period usually starts on the date of incorporation and ends on the company's first accounting reference date, though the length of that period can differ from company to company. The accounts typically include a balance sheet and, where applicable, a profit and loss account, and they are delivered to Companies House where required.

There is no single deadline that applies to every company. The due date is calculated from your company's incorporation date and accounting reference date, and the rules for a first set of accounts can differ from those for later years. We check your company's specific dates and confirm the filing position for you rather than applying a general assumption.

It depends on what your company has done. In most cases we ask for bank transactions, sales and income records, business expenses, purchase invoices, details of any assets bought, director transactions and loans, share capital information, and payroll or VAT records where those apply. If your company has had very little activity, the records required will be lighter, but we still need to understand the full picture before preparing the accounts.

Where the company is required to file statutory accounts, yes — being newly incorporated does not remove that obligation, and neither does having limited or no trading activity. The reporting position for a company with no significant transactions depends on its circumstances and the applicable rules, so it should be assessed rather than assumed. Directors in Rhondda Cynon Taff remain responsible for making sure the company's filing obligations are met.

No. Statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House where required, while a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted to HMRC where applicable. The two have different purposes and different destinations, and filing one does not complete the other. Information from the accounts often feeds into the Corporation Tax position, but the company's first Corporation Tax accounting period and its statutory accounts period may not be identical.

No. A confirmation statement is a separate filing that confirms the company's registered details are correct, and it is not replaced by the statutory accounts. A company may still need to submit a confirmation statement and keep its Companies House information up to date alongside its accounts filing.

Some companies do qualify, but it is not automatic and it is not decided purely by turnover. Eligibility depends on meeting the applicable conditions for the relevant accounting period. If your company qualifies, FRS 105 — the financial reporting standard for qualifying entities using the micro-entity framework — may be appropriate. If it does not, a different framework will apply, and we will confirm which route fits your circumstances.

Failing to file required accounts by the applicable deadline can result in consequences from Companies House, and those consequences are not identical in every case. Paying any penalty does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts. Penalty appeals are possible only where the circumstances and applicable rules support one, so if you are concerned about a late filing, it is worth seeking advice before the position gets more complicated.
