First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Redcar — Accurate Preparation and Filing Support

A company’s first set of statutory accounts is a milestone, and it is worth getting right the first time. We help newly incorporated and newly trading limited companies in Redcar prepare their first year accounts — reviewing the accounting records you hold, drawing up the balance sheet and profit and loss account where applicable, and supporting delivery of those accounts to Companies House where required. If your company also has Corporation Tax obligations, the CT600 is a separate return submitted to HMRC, with its own purpose and its own destination, and we can help with that side of things too. Whether you have been trading for several months or have had limited activity since incorporation, we can set out clearly what is required, what information we need from you, and what happens next.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.

Your first filing timeline

First CT600 due

12 months after the end of the accounting period, with tax due earlier.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company, and How Do They Work for New Limited Companies in Redcar?

First year accounts are the first set of annual statutory accounts a limited company prepares for its initial accounting period. In most cases that period runs from the date of incorporation to the company’s first accounting reference date, which is assigned when the company is formed. The length of a first accounting period is not identical for every company, and it can be adjusted in certain circumstances, so the period covered — and therefore what the accounts must include — is something to check against the company’s own record at Companies House rather than assumed. The accounts are not optional simply because the company is new. A limited company normally needs to prepare statutory accounts for each accounting period, and those accounts are generally delivered to Companies House where required. Directors remain responsible for making sure this happens, even where an accountant has been engaged to prepare and file the information. A first set of accounts will usually include a balance sheet, a profit and loss account where the applicable framework and the company’s circumstances call for one, and the notes and disclosures the chosen framework requires. Some companies qualify for the micro-entity accounting framework if they meet the eligibility conditions for the relevant accounting period, and for those entities FRS 105 is the financial reporting standard that applies. Not every newly incorporated company is a micro-entity, and low activity in the first period does not by itself decide the question — the appropriate framework depends on the company’s circumstances and the applicable requirements. If your company does not qualify as a micro-entity, the small-company framework or full reporting may be the right route instead. It helps to keep three obligations distinct, because they are often mentioned together. First year statutory accounts are prepared under the applicable accounting framework and sent to Companies House where required. A Corporation Tax Return, such as a CT600, is submitted to HMRC and deals with the company’s Corporation Tax position; it is a separate filing, and the first Corporation Tax accounting period may not line up exactly with the period covered by the statutory accounts. A confirmation statement is different again — it confirms that the company’s details on the Companies House register are up to date and does not replace the accounts, just as filing the accounts does not remove the need for a confirmation statement. VAT Returns, where a company is registered, and the underlying bookkeeping records are also separate matters, although the same records often feed into more than one of these tasks.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Business Turnover

Annual Turnover of £1 Million or less. (£632,000 previously)

Balance Sheet

Balance sheet total of £500,000 or less.(£316,000 previously)

Company Size

On an average 10 or less employees

Get Your First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Redcar Prepared with Confidence

The first set of statutory accounts tends to raise questions that did not come up when you incorporated the company — which dates the period covers, which reporting framework applies, what has to go to Companies House, and how that differs from the return HMRC expects. Micro Entity Accounts works with newly incorporated and newly trading limited companies to prepare first year accounts, review the accounting records behind them and support the filing where required, with clear pricing and no hidden extras. If you would rather have the figures checked properly before the accounts are finalised, get in touch and we will explain what your company needs.

They are the first set of annual statutory accounts a limited company prepares for its initial accounting period. They generally cover the period from incorporation up to the company's first accounting reference date and present the company's financial position under whichever reporting framework applies to it. Once prepared, the accounts are normally delivered to Companies House where required. They are not the same thing as a Corporation Tax Return and they do not replace the company's confirmation statement.

The deadline depends on the company's incorporation date, its accounting reference date and the applicable Companies House requirements, so there is no single answer that fits every company. A first set of accounts often has a different filing window from later years, and if the accounting reference date has been changed the position shifts again. We work from your company's actual Companies House record rather than assuming a standard date applies.

Typically we need bank statements and transaction listings for the full period, sales invoices and income records, purchase invoices and expense receipts, details of any assets bought for the business, director transactions and any loans or finance agreements, share capital information, and payroll or VAT records where the company has those in place. Company directors in Redcar do not need everything perfectly organised before contacting us — we can usually work from digital records and help identify what is still missing.

In most cases yes. A limited company normally has to prepare and file accounts for each accounting period, including its first, and this obligation applies regardless of how recently the company was formed. There are limited exceptions and the position depends on the company's specific circumstances and the applicable rules, which is why it is worth confirming rather than assuming. Filing the accounts is also not the same as keeping the company's other Companies House information up to date.

Having little or no activity does not automatically remove the company's filing obligations. Where a company has had limited or no accounting transactions, its reporting position depends on its circumstances and the applicable rules, and simply calling it dormant is not always the correct conclusion. If your company has not started trading, it is worth reviewing the position properly before deciding what needs to be filed and what does not.

No. Statutory accounts are prepared under the applicable accounting framework and delivered to Companies House where required. A Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted to HMRC and covers the company's Corporation Tax position — a separate filing, for a separate purpose, going to a different destination. The figures in the accounts often inform the tax return, and the two are usually prepared together, but submitting one does not submit the other. The company's first Corporation Tax accounting period may also differ from the period covered by its statutory accounts.

Some newly incorporated companies do meet the eligibility conditions for the micro-entity framework, and where they do, FRS 105 is the financial reporting standard that applies to them. Others do not qualify, and low turnover or a recent incorporation date alone is not enough to decide it. Eligibility is assessed against the applicable requirements for the relevant accounting period, so we check the position for your company before choosing a reporting framework.

Failing to file required accounts by the applicable deadline can lead to consequences from Companies House, and the outcome depends on how late the filing is and the circumstances involved. Paying any penalty does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts. If accounts are already overdue, the priority is usually to get them prepared and submitted, and to review whether an appeal is worth considering based on the rules that apply.
