I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.Posted on Google![]()

First Year Accounts FAQs
Still unsure where you stand? Reach out to our UK team at info@microentityaccounts.co.uk and we will review your filing history with you.
First year accounts are the first set of statutory accounts a company prepares for its initial accounting period, which normally runs from the date of incorporation to the company's first accounting reference date. They typically include a balance sheet, a profit and loss account where the applicable framework requires one, any supporting notes, and confirmation of the directors' responsibilities. They represent the company's formal reporting of its financial position for that first period and are generally delivered to Companies House where required.
First accounts deadlines are not identical for every company. Companies House treats the first set of accounts differently from later years because the initial accounting period is often longer than twelve months, so the deadline is measured differently. The exact date depends on the company's incorporation date and its accounting reference date, and the applicable Companies House requirements should be checked rather than assumed. If you are unsure where your company stands, we can help you establish the position for your specific filing.
Broadly, the accounting records that support the company's transactions for the period. Depending on the company's circumstances, that might include bank statements and transaction listings, sales invoices and income records, purchase invoices and business expenses, details of any assets purchased, share capital information, director transactions or loans, and payroll or VAT records where those apply. A company that has had limited activity may have very few records, which is normal for a newly incorporated business, and the accounts still need to be prepared on the correct basis.
Where a company is required to file statutory accounts, those accounts are generally delivered to Companies House, even where activity has been limited. Being newly incorporated does not in itself remove that obligation, and it should not be assumed that nothing needs to be filed because trading has not started. That said, the reporting position of a company with no significant accounting transactions depends on its own circumstances and the applicable rules, and does not automatically mean the company is dormant. Directors in Reading Berks and elsewhere should confirm the position for their own company rather than rely on a general assumption.
No. They are different documents with different purposes and different destinations. First year statutory accounts are prepared for the company's members and filed with Companies House where required. A Corporation Tax Return, such as a CT600, is submitted to HMRC where the company has Corporation Tax obligations. The figures in the accounts often inform the tax return, but filing accounts does not submit a CT600, and submitting a CT600 does not satisfy the Companies House accounts requirement. The company's first Corporation Tax accounting period and its statutory accounts period may not even be identical.
Some can, but it is not automatic. Micro-entity reporting is available where a company meets the eligibility conditions for the relevant accounting period, which relate to matters such as turnover, balance sheet total and employee numbers. Qualifying entities typically prepare accounts under FRS 105, the financial reporting standard applicable to the micro-entity framework. Not every new company qualifies, and low activity in the first period does not settle the question on its own. Many small companies fall within the small company regime instead, so the appropriate framework should be confirmed against your company's circumstances for the period in question.
No, they are separate filings. A confirmation statement keeps the company's registered information at Companies House up to date, while first year accounts report the company's financial position for its first accounting period. Filing statutory accounts does not discharge the confirmation statement obligation, and the confirmation statement does not satisfy the accounts filing requirement. A limited company may need to deal with both, along with any Corporation Tax obligations where applicable.
Where accounts are delivered after the applicable deadline, Companies House can apply late filing consequences, typically in the form of penalties that increase the longer the accounts remain outstanding. Paying a penalty does not remove the requirement to file the accounts. If a director believes there were valid reasons for the delay, an appeal may be possible, but eligibility depends on the circumstances and the applicable rules. In practice, the priority is usually to get the accounts prepared and filed as soon as the records allow.
