I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.Posted on Google![]()

First Year Accounts FAQs
Still unsure where you stand? Reach out to our UK team at info@microentityaccounts.co.uk and we will review your filing history with you.
They are the first set of statutory annual accounts your company prepares, covering its initial accounting period. In most cases that period begins on the date of incorporation and ends on the company's first accounting reference date, although the exact period depends on your incorporation date, the accounting reference date and the applicable Companies House requirements. The accounts are built from your accounting records and generally include a balance sheet and, where applicable, a profit and loss account with the supporting notes and statements required by the reporting framework you use.
There is no single answer that applies to every company, because the deadline follows from your incorporation date and accounting reference date rather than from a fixed rule of thumb. Companies House sets out the filing requirements that apply, including how the first period is treated. What matters is establishing your specific dates early rather than assuming you have a standard twelve-month window. We can confirm the period your accounts must cover and the date by which the filing is expected, based on your company's own details.
It depends on what has happened in the company during the period. Typically we would look at bank transactions, sales and income records, business expenses and purchase invoices, any assets purchased, director transactions and loans, share capital information, and payroll or VAT records where those are relevant. If the company has been quiet, the records may be minimal, but the accounts still need to reflect the company's actual position accurately. Sending everything you hold, even if it seems untidy, is usually better than sending only part of it.
In most cases, yes. A newly incorporated company generally has statutory accounts obligations even where activity has been limited or trading has not yet started, and first-year accounts are normally delivered to Companies House where required. Filing with Companies House is separate from anything you might owe HMRC, and a company may still need to submit a confirmation statement and keep its registered information up to date. If you are unsure how your circumstances are treated, it is worth getting the position checked rather than leaving the filing unaddressed.
No, they are different filings with different purposes and different destinations. Statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House where required, while a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted to HMRC where it applies to the company. Information from the accounts is often used when preparing the Corporation Tax position, but filing your accounts does not submit a CT600, and submitting a CT600 does not complete your Companies House accounts filing. It is also worth noting that your first Corporation Tax accounting period and your statutory accounts period are not necessarily identical.
Not trading does not automatically remove the company's statutory filing obligations. Depending on the company's circumstances and the applicable rules, accounts may still need to be prepared and filed, and the reporting position for a company with no significant transactions is determined by those circumstances rather than by assuming the company is dormant. Dormancy has a specific meaning and specific conditions, so it is not simply a description for a company that has been quiet. For directors in Poulton-le-Fylde with a company that has not yet traded, the practical step is to have the position reviewed before assuming nothing needs to be done.
Some newly incorporated companies may qualify for the micro-entity framework and prepare accounts under FRS 105, provided they meet the eligibility requirements for the relevant accounting period. Qualification is not automatic, and it is not decided simply by having low turnover or by being a startup, so a company with no trading history could still fall outside the framework in certain circumstances. Where the micro-entity framework is not available, a different reporting basis applies. We can look at your company's position and confirm which framework is appropriate.
Failing to deliver required accounts by the applicable deadline can lead to consequences from Companies House, and the outcome depends on how late the filing is and the company's filing history. Paying any penalty does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts, so the accounts still need to be completed and submitted. Where an appeal is considered, eligibility depends on the circumstances and the applicable rules, and no outcome can be guaranteed in advance. If a deadline has already passed, the priority is to get the accounts prepared and filed promptly.
