First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Pontyclun, Prepared With Professional Support

Your company’s first set of statutory accounts sets the pattern for everything that follows. Micro Entity Accounts works with newly incorporated and newly trading limited companies in Pontyclun on the preparation of their first year accounts — reviewing the accounting records you hold, drafting a balance sheet and, where applicable, a profit and loss account, and supporting the delivery of those accounts to Companies House where required. If your company also has Corporation Tax obligations, a CT600 is a separate submission made to HMRC under its own rules and timescales, and it is not covered by filing accounts at Companies House. Handling the first accounting period carefully, with the figures properly checked and the paperwork in order, makes the whole process far less uncertain for directors who are doing this for the first time.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.

Your first filing timeline

Incorporation

Your first filing timeline depends on your company's incorporation date and accounting reference date.

Accounting reference date

Set by default to the last day of the month of incorporation, one year on.

First accounts due

Normally 21 months after incorporation at Companies House.

First CT600 due

12 months after the end of the accounting period, with tax due earlier.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company?

First year accounts are the first set of statutory accounts a limited company prepares for its initial accounting period. They cover the period from incorporation, or from the point the company began its reporting obligations, up to the company’s first accounting reference date. By default, that date is generally set at the last day of the month in which the company was incorporated, one year on, although it can be shortened or, in certain circumstances, extended. Because this first period is not always a full twelve months, the figures in a first set of accounts are not always directly comparable with later years — something worth remembering if you review the accounts alongside a second or third year. The accounts themselves are a formal record of the company’s financial position. They typically include a balance sheet and, where applicable, a profit and loss account with supporting notes. Company directors remain responsible for ensuring the accounts are prepared and delivered to Companies House where required, even when an accountant does the preparation work. Companies House does not prepare those accounts, and it does not approve them. Some companies qualify to prepare accounts under the micro-entity framework, which uses FRS 105 as the applicable financial reporting standard for qualifying entities. Qualification is not automatic. It depends on the company meeting the eligibility requirements for the relevant accounting period and on its individual circumstances, so the appropriate basis of preparation should be assessed rather than assumed. A company that does qualify may find the micro-entity framework simpler, but that is a decision to reach with the relevant requirements in front of you. It also helps to keep first year accounts separate from other filings. A Corporation Tax Return, such as a CT600, is submitted to HMRC and is a distinct obligation with its own accounting period, which may not match the statutory accounts period. A confirmation statement is separate again — it confirms the information Companies House holds about the company rather than reporting financial results. Filing one of these does not complete the others, so a director in Pontyclun needs to track each obligation on its own terms.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Business Turnover

Annual Turnover of £1 Million or less. (£632,000 previously)

Balance Sheet

Balance sheet total of £500,000 or less.(£316,000 previously)

Company Size

On an average 10 or less employees
(10 or less previously)

They are the first set of annual statutory accounts your company prepares for its initial accounting period. They generally include a balance sheet and, where applicable, a profit and loss account and supporting notes, and they are delivered to Companies House where required. They are a separate matter from any Corporation Tax Return you may need to submit to HMRC.

The deadline for a first set of accounts is measured from your company's accounting reference date, and the period allowed for first accounts is generally different from the period allowed in later years. Rather than assume a date, it is worth checking the accounting reference date Companies House holds for your company and the filing deadline attached to it. If anything about that date is unclear, we can help you confirm the position for your company's circumstances.

Typically bank statements and transaction listings, sales and income records, purchase invoices and business expenses, details of any assets purchased, share capital information, director loan transactions, and any loan or finance agreements. If the company runs payroll or is VAT registered, those records are relevant too. Where records are limited, we can talk through what is realistically available and what the accounts need.

A limited company generally has statutory accounts obligations once it is incorporated, even where trading has not started or activity has been minimal. Where a company has had no significant accounting transactions, its reporting position depends on its circumstances and the applicable rules rather than being automatically treated as dormant. Directors in Pontyclun should expect to deal with a first set of accounts at some point rather than assuming a quiet start means nothing is required.

No. Statutory accounts are prepared for the company and filed with Companies House. A CT600 is a Corporation Tax Return submitted to HMRC, and it is a separate filing with its own requirements and its own accounting period, which does not always align with the statutory accounts period. Information from the accounts often feeds into the tax position, but submitting one does not submit the other.

It can, but not automatically. Micro-entity status depends on meeting the eligibility criteria that apply for the relevant accounting period. Newly incorporated companies are sometimes assumed to qualify simply because they are small, which is not how the rules work. Where a company does qualify, the micro-entity framework — with FRS 105 as the applicable financial reporting standard — may simplify the accounts. We can review the position and confirm the appropriate basis of preparation.

No. A confirmation statement is a separate filing that confirms the information Companies House holds about the company, such as its directors, shareholders and registered office. It does not report financial results, and submitting first year accounts does not satisfy it. Many companies have both obligations running alongside each other.

Failing to deliver accounts by the applicable deadline can lead to Companies House consequences, which may include penalties. What applies depends on how late the filing is and on the company's filing history, and paying any penalty does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts. If you are already overdue, the priority is getting accurate accounts prepared and delivered.
