First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Padiham, Prepared and Filed With Professional Support

Your company’s first set of statutory accounts is a legal obligation, not an optional extra, and it is often the first time a director has to think about accounting reference dates, disclosure requirements and Companies House filing. We work with newly incorporated and newly trading limited companies in Padiham to prepare their First Year Accounts for Limited Company from the accounting records they hold, review those records for gaps or inconsistencies, and deliver the accounts in the correct format for filing with Companies House where required. Alongside that, we explain how the company’s first accounting period is set by its incorporation date and accounting reference date, and how that period may not line up exactly with any Corporation Tax accounting period. Where a CT600 is needed, that is a separate submission made to HMRC, and we can assist with it as a distinct piece of work rather than treating it as part of the Companies House accounts filing.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.

Fabulous team at ACCOTAX - very efficient and good response time . Honest and professional with their work. I would highly recommend them even if you’re a young start up - or a large business they have it covered .
Your first filing timeline

Your first filing timeline depends on your company's incorporation date and accounting reference date.

Accounting reference date

First accounts due

Normally 21 months after incorporation at Companies House.

First CT600 due

12 months after the end of the accounting period, with tax due earlier.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company?

First year accounts are the first set of annual statutory accounts a limited company prepares after incorporation. They cover the company’s initial accounting period, which normally begins on the date of incorporation and ends on the company’s first accounting reference date, a date set by reference to the incorporation date and recorded at Companies House. Because that first period can be longer or shorter than a standard twelve-month period, and because it can differ from the company’s first Corporation Tax accounting period, the figures and the covering period need to be checked carefully rather than assumed. The accounts themselves usually comprise a balance sheet, and a profit and loss account where the applicable reporting framework requires one, together with any notes and the required statements. Directors remain responsible for ensuring the accounts are prepared and filed, and for keeping adequate accounting records, even where an accountant is engaged to do the preparation work. On the question of a micro company: a company may be able to use the micro-entity accounting framework, and FRS 105 where applicable, if it meets the eligibility conditions for the relevant accounting period. Eligibility is assessed, not automatic, so a newly incorporated company is not treated as a micro-entity simply because it is new or small. Whether the micro-entity framework, the small company regime or fuller reporting is appropriate depends on the company’s circumstances and the requirements in force for that period. It is also worth separating out three distinct compliance items. The statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House where required. A Corporation Tax Return, such as a CT600, is submitted to HMRC where applicable, and filing one does not complete the other. A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing that confirms the company’s registered details, and it is not replaced by filing accounts. A limited company in Padiham may therefore have several obligations running in parallel, each with its own purpose and destination.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Business Turnover

Annual Turnover of £1 Million or less. (£632,000 previously)

Balance Sheet

Balance sheet total of £500,000 or less.(£316,000 previously)

Company Size

On an average 10 or less employees

Get Your First-Year Accounts Prepared Accurately, With Clear Filing Support

Many directors incorporate a company and only later realise that the first statutory accounts are already on the horizon, that the records they have kept may not be quite enough to work from, and that the reporting framework they assumed applied needs to be confirmed against the eligibility rules. Micro Entity Accounts works with limited companies and company directors in Padiham to take the guesswork out of that first accounting period: reviewing your records, preparing the statutory accounts for the correct period, and supporting the filing with Companies House where required, with clear pricing and no surprise extras. If your company is approaching its first accounts, it is better to sort the records and the framework now than to work backwards from a filing requirement.

They are the first set of annual statutory accounts your company prepares, covering the initial accounting period that starts on the date of incorporation. They are usually made up of a balance sheet, a profit and loss account where the applicable framework requires one, and any supporting notes and statements. They are prepared from the company's accounting records and are delivered to Companies House where required. They are not the same document as a Corporation Tax Return.

The deadline depends on your company's incorporation date and its first accounting reference date, so it is not the same for every company and should not be assumed. Companies House sets the accounting reference date by reference to the incorporation date, and the filing deadline follows from that. Because first periods are often longer or shorter than twelve months, it is worth confirming your own dates from your company records rather than working from a general rule.

Usually the records relevant to your company's activity: bank statements and transactions, sales or income records, business expenses and purchase invoices, details of any assets bought, director transactions and loans, share capital information, and finance agreements or loans. Where the company runs payroll or is VAT registered, the relevant payroll and VAT records may also be needed. Not every company will have every type of record, and we can identify what applies in your case.

A limited company generally has statutory accounts filing obligations, and incorporating recently does not remove them. Even where activity has been limited or trading has not yet started, there is usually still a reporting position to deal with, and what that looks like depends on the company's particular circumstances and the applicable rules rather than being assumed to be dormant. Filing the accounts is separate from submitting a CT600 to HMRC.

They are the same type of document, simply the first in the series. The difference is that the first set covers the company's initial accounting period, which may not be a full twelve-month period and may not match the company's first Corporation Tax accounting period. Once that first set is prepared and filed, subsequent years normally follow a regular annual cycle.

No. The statutory accounts are prepared for the company's members and delivered to Companies House where required, while a CT600 is a Corporation Tax Return submitted to HMRC where the company has a Corporation Tax obligation. Information from the accounts is often used when preparing the tax position, but the two filings serve different purposes and go to different places. Completing one does not complete the other.

It may be able to, but qualification is not automatic and does not follow simply from being newly incorporated or from having modest activity. Whether the micro-entity framework, and FRS 105 where applicable, can be used depends on whether the company meets the eligibility conditions for the accounting period in question. We check that against your circumstances before deciding which reporting framework to apply.

Failing to file required accounts by the applicable deadline can lead to Companies House consequences, and the outcome is not identical in every case. Paying any penalty does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts, which still need to be prepared and delivered. If accounts have already been filed late, whether an appeal is available depends on the circumstances and the applicable rules. Directors of a Padiham company with overdue accounts should treat getting them filed as the priority.
