First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Kirkcaldy – Prepared and Filed With Professional Support

The first set of statutory accounts is a milestone every newly incorporated company has to deal with, and it comes with its own rules, reporting choices and dates. Micro Entity Accounts supports directors in Kirkcaldy through that initial accounting period – reviewing the accounting records, preparing the balance sheet and, where the applicable framework requires it, a profit and loss account, and delivering the accounts to Companies House where required. We also help you see how those figures fit into your wider compliance position, including any Corporation Tax or CT600 submission to HMRC, which remains a separate requirement with its own timescales. Whether your company has been trading since incorporation or has seen limited activity so far, professional preparation and filing support keeps the first-year process accurate, documented and properly explained.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

Your first filing timeline

Your first filing timeline depends on your company's incorporation date and accounting reference date.

Accounting reference date

First accounts due

Normally 21 months after incorporation at Companies House.

First CT600 due

12 months after the end of the accounting period, with tax due earlier.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company, and Does Every New Limited Company Qualify?

First year accounts are the first set of statutory annual accounts a limited company prepares. They cover the company’s initial accounting period, which generally runs from the incorporation date to the company’s first accounting reference date, and they are delivered to Companies House where required. They are not optional, and a company is not excused from them simply because trading has been limited or has not yet commenced. Where a company has had little or no activity, its reporting position depends on its own circumstances and the applicable rules rather than being automatically treated as dormant. The length of that first period is not universal. Because it is set by reference to the company’s incorporation date and accounting reference date, two companies incorporated a few weeks apart can face different period lengths and different filing dates. The applicable Companies House requirements decide how the first period is treated, so it is worth confirming the position for the specific company rather than assuming a standard pattern. Reporting framework is a separate question from the accounts themselves. A company may use the micro-entity framework, prepared under FRS 105, if it meets the eligibility conditions for the relevant accounting period. Some companies instead fall within the small companies regime. Neither route is automatic, and low activity or a recent incorporation date does not by itself confirm micro-entity status – eligibility is assessed against the company’s circumstances and the requirements in force for that period. It also helps to keep the different filings apart. Statutory accounts go to Companies House, a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted to HMRC where Corporation Tax obligations apply, and a confirmation statement is a further Companies House filing that keeps the register up to date. Filing one does not complete the others, even though the figures in the accounts often inform the tax return. For directors of newly incorporated companies in Kirkcaldy, understanding that separation early makes the first year far more straightforward.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Business Turnover

Annual Turnover of £1 Million or less. (£632,000 previously)

Balance Sheet

Balance sheet total of £500,000 or less.(£316,000 previously)

Company Size

On an average 10 or less employees

Get Your First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Kirkcaldy Prepared Properly

If your company has recently been incorporated, the first accounting period can raise questions that are hard to answer from the paperwork alone – which period the accounts should cover, what records need to be gathered, which reporting framework applies and what actually has to go to Companies House. Micro Entity Accounts can take that forward, preparing your first-year statutory accounts from the records you hold, explaining the basis on which they have been drawn up and handling the Companies House filing where required. We will also flag where Corporation Tax, a confirmation statement or other filings sit separately, so nothing is left assumed. Speak to us about your company’s first accounting period and get a clear, fixed-fee route through it without hidden costs.

They are the first set of statutory annual accounts prepared for a company's initial accounting period, which normally runs from the incorporation date to the company's first accounting reference date. Depending on the reporting framework that applies, they typically include a balance sheet, a profit and loss account where required, and the supporting notes and disclosures. They are not the same thing as a Corporation Tax Return or a confirmation statement.

In most cases a limited company is expected to prepare statutory accounts for its first accounting period and deliver them to Companies House where required, even where trading has been limited or has not yet started. Companies House does not prepare the accounts and does not assess whether an accountant was involved – its role is to receive and register the filing. Any Corporation Tax Return is dealt with separately through HMRC.

It varies with the company's circumstances. Usually it includes bank statements and transaction records, details of any sales or income, purchase invoices and expense receipts, information on asset purchases, director's loan movements, share capital details and any loans or finance agreements. Payroll records or VAT records may also be relevant where the company is registered for those. A largely inactive company may need less documentation, but the position should still be reviewed before the accounts are finalised.

The due date depends on the company's incorporation date, its first accounting reference date and the applicable Companies House requirements, so it is not identical for every company. A first accounting period can also differ in length from later periods. Because the dates are specific to each company, it is worth confirming the position for your own company rather than relying on general assumptions.

No. Statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House where required, while a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted to HMRC where the company has Corporation Tax obligations. They serve different purposes, go to different bodies and have their own deadlines. The first Corporation Tax accounting period may not match the statutory accounts period exactly, and completing one filing does not complete the other.

Some newly incorporated companies may qualify for the micro-entity framework under FRS 105, which allows simplified accounts, provided they meet the eligibility conditions for the accounting period in question. Qualification is not automatic, and a company that does not qualify may still fall within the small companies regime. The appropriate framework should be confirmed against the company's circumstances before the accounts are prepared.

No – they are separate filings with separate purposes. A confirmation statement confirms that the company's details held at Companies House remain accurate, while first-year statutory accounts report the company's financial position and performance for the period. Filing one does not discharge the requirement for the other, and a company may need to deal with both.

Failing to deliver accounts by the applicable deadline can lead to consequences from Companies House, and those consequences depend on how late the filing is and the company's filing history. Settling any penalty does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts. Where a director believes there was a valid reason for the delay, appeal eligibility depends on the circumstances and the applicable rules, and professional advice can help clarify the available options.
