First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Kidwelly — Prepared and Filed With Professional Support

A company’s first set of statutory accounts sets the pattern for every filing that follows. If you have recently incorporated a limited company in Kidwelly, Micro Entity Accounts can prepare your First Year Accounts for Limited Company using the accounting records you hold, review the figures with you in plain terms, and file the accounts with Companies House where required. We begin with the practical details — your incorporation date, your accounting reference date and the records available — then work through the balance sheet, the profit and loss account where applicable, and the disclosures the applicable reporting framework calls for. Where Corporation Tax is also in point, we will make clear that this is a separate HMRC matter, usually reported through a CT600, and that it is not dealt with by filing accounts at Companies House.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

Your first filing timeline

Incorporation

Your first filing timeline depends on your company's incorporation date and accounting reference date.

Accounting reference date

Set by default to the last day of the month of incorporation, one year on.

First accounts due

Normally 21 months after incorporation at Companies House.

First CT600 due

12 months after the end of the accounting period, with tax due earlier.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company — and When Does a New Limited Company in Kidwelly Need Them?

First year accounts are the first set of statutory accounts a limited company prepares for its initial accounting period. They are not optional simply because the company is new. Once a company is incorporated it has an accounting reference date, and its first accounting period normally runs from the date of incorporation to that first accounting reference date. Depending on when in the year the company was incorporated, that first period may be shorter or longer than the twelve months used in later years, and Companies House applies its own rules to how the first period and the associated filing requirement are treated. Two companies incorporated at different points will not necessarily share the same first period or the same filing date, which is why the company’s own dates matter more than any general rule of thumb. The accounts themselves show the company’s financial position and results for that period. A typical first set includes a balance sheet, a profit and loss account where applicable, and the notes and disclosures required by the reporting framework that applies, alongside the directors’ responsibilities and the information identifying the company and the period covered. The figures come from the company’s accounting records, which is why bank transactions, sales and income records, purchase invoices, expense receipts, details of asset purchases, share capital information, director transactions and any payroll or VAT records are so useful when the accounts are being put together. Where records are thin, that is usually a conversation to have early rather than late. Some newly incorporated companies may qualify for the micro-entity reporting framework, which is a simplified basis set out in FRS 105 for entities that meet the applicable eligibility requirements for the relevant accounting period. Others may fall within the small company regime, and others will need a fuller reporting framework. Qualification is not automatic, and a company with limited activity does not automatically qualify. The appropriate basis depends on eligibility and the company’s circumstances, not on how recently it was incorporated. It also helps to be precise about what first year accounts are not. They are not a Corporation Tax Return. Statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House where required, while a CT600 is submitted to HMRC by companies that have Corporation Tax obligations, and the company’s first Corporation Tax accounting period may not be identical to the period covered by its statutory accounts. First year accounts are not a confirmation statement either, which is a separate filing that keeps the company’s register information current, and they are not a VAT Return. Completing one does not automatically complete the others.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Business Turnover

Annual Turnover of £1 Million or less. (£632,000 previously)

Balance Sheet

Balance sheet total of £500,000 or less.(£316,000 previously)

Company Size

On an average 10 or less employees
(10 or less previously)

Get Your First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Kidwelly Prepared Accurately

Directors approaching their first accounts filing tend to have the same questions: which figures belong in the accounts, which reporting framework the company should use, and what actually has to be sent to Companies House. If your accounting records are patchy, or you are unsure whether the micro-entity framework is available to your company, it is far easier to resolve that before the accounts are prepared than to revisit them afterwards. Micro Entity Accounts provides clear, fixed-fee support with first-year statutory accounts — working from the records you have, explaining the numbers without jargon, and handling the filing with Companies House where required, while keeping the separate Corporation Tax position distinct. If you would like your company’s first accounts prepared properly and its wider obligations explained clearly, get in touch to talk through your circumstances.

They are the first set of statutory accounts a company prepares for its initial accounting period. That period usually starts on the incorporation date and ends on the company's first accounting reference date, so it can be shorter or longer than the twelve months used in later years. The accounts normally include a balance sheet, a profit and loss account where applicable, and the notes and disclosures required by the reporting framework the company falls under. They are prepared from the company's accounting records and are filed with Companies House where required.

There is no single answer that applies to every company. The due date follows from the company's incorporation date and its accounting reference date, together with the specific Companies House rules that apply to a first set of accounts. Because those dates differ from company to company, the safest approach is to check the company's own records rather than rely on a general figure. If you are unsure where your limited company stands, we can review the incorporation details and confirm the position.

It depends on what the company has done during the period, but the usual starting points are bank statements and transaction records, sales and income records, purchase invoices and expense receipts, details of any assets bought, share capital information, director transactions or loans, and any payroll or VAT records where those apply. If the company has traded little or not at all, far less may be needed. We will tell you at the outset what is likely to be required for your particular circumstances in Kidwelly.

In general, a company on the register is expected to prepare and file statutory accounts for its accounting periods, and that expectation is not removed simply because the company is new or has had limited activity. A company with no significant accounting transactions may have a different reporting position under the applicable rules, but that is a question of its specific circumstances rather than an automatic exemption. It is worth confirming your position rather than assuming the obligation does not apply.

No, they are three separate obligations. Statutory accounts are delivered to Companies House where required. A Corporation Tax Return, such as a CT600, is submitted to HMRC by companies with Corporation Tax obligations, and the first Corporation Tax accounting period may not match the period covered by the statutory accounts. A confirmation statement is a further separate filing that keeps Companies House register information up to date. Filing one does not fulfil the others.

Possibly, but not automatically. The micro-entity framework, with FRS 105 as the applicable financial reporting standard for qualifying entities, is available to companies that meet the eligibility requirements for the relevant accounting period. Age is not the test, and a company with low turnover does not necessarily qualify. The right framework depends on eligibility and the company's circumstances, and we will confirm which basis applies before the accounts are prepared.

Often yes, although the position depends on the company's circumstances and the applicable rules. A company with no significant accounting transactions may be able to file accounts on a dormant basis if it meets the relevant criteria, but that is not the same as having nothing to do. Directors in Kidwelly who have incorporated a company and not yet begun trading should still check what is due and when, rather than waiting until a filing date has passed.

Failing to file required accounts by the applicable deadline can lead to consequences from Companies House, which may include a penalty that varies according to how late the accounts are. Paying a penalty does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts. Whether an appeal against a penalty is possible depends on the circumstances and the applicable rules. If accounts have been missed, the priority is usually to get the position resolved and the filing brought up to date.
