First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Epsom — Prepared, Reviewed and Filed With Professional Support

Your company has been incorporated, the first period is ticking by, and at some point the first set of statutory accounts has to be prepared and, where required, delivered to Companies House. First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Epsom is the work we handle for newly incorporated and newly trading companies: pulling together the accounting records, preparing a balance sheet and profit and loss account where applicable, reviewing the figures with you, and supporting the filing with Companies House where required. We also make the boundaries clear. Statutory accounts are separate from a Corporation Tax Return, and a CT600 is submitted to HMRC rather than Companies House. Depending on your circumstances, a confirmation statement may also be due, and the reporting framework we use will depend on whether your company meets the eligibility requirements for micro-entity or small company reporting for the relevant period. Directors in Epsom who want their first statutory accounts prepared accurately, with the paperwork handled in the right order, can rely on our team for straightforward, fixed-fee support.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.

Your first filing timeline

Incorporation

Your first filing timeline depends on your company's incorporation date and accounting reference date.

Accounting reference date

Set by default to the last day of the month of incorporation, one year on.

First accounts due

Normally 21 months after incorporation at Companies House.

First CT600 due

12 months after the end of the accounting period, with tax due earlier.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company and Which Epsom Limited Companies Qualify?

First year accounts are the first set of statutory accounts a limited company prepares for its initial accounting period. That period normally starts on the date of incorporation and ends on the company’s first accounting reference date, although the length of a first period can vary depending on when the company was incorporated and how its accounting reference date falls. Where Companies House requires accounts to be delivered, the company’s earliest annual filing obligation will usually relate to that first period. It helps to separate the moving parts. Statutory accounts are prepared for the company’s members and, where required, delivered to Companies House. A Corporation Tax Return, such as a CT600, is submitted to HMRC and serves a different purpose — the company’s first Corporation Tax accounting period does not necessarily match its statutory accounts period. A confirmation statement is another separate filing, and delivering accounts does not replace it. Filing accounts with Companies House is also not the same as completing the company’s tax obligations. Where a company qualifies, the micro-entity framework can be used, and FRS 105 is the financial reporting standard that applies to qualifying entities using that framework. Qualification is not automatic. It depends on whether the company meets the applicable eligibility requirements for the accounting period in question, and those requirements can change from year to year. Companies that fall outside the micro-entity thresholds may instead report under the small company framework, while others will need to follow a fuller framework. That assessment should be made for each relevant period rather than assumed at incorporation. The accounts themselves typically centre on a balance sheet, together with notes explaining the figures, and a profit and loss account where applicable. Filed micro-entity accounts generally consist of a balance sheet with supporting notes; the profit and loss account is usually not delivered to Companies House, but the company still has to keep proper accounting records and prepare the information its directors need. Directors remain responsible for the company’s statutory obligations even when an accountant prepares and files the accounts. The accounting framework, the figures and the filing position all flow from the company’s own records — share capital, bank activity, income and expenses, asset purchases, director transactions, loans and any payroll or VAT records where relevant. Getting those records in reasonable shape early makes the first year of reporting considerably more straightforward for a new company in Epsom.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Business Turnover

Annual Turnover of £1 Million or less. (£632,000 previously)

Balance Sheet

Balance sheet total of £500,000 or less.(£316,000 previously)

Company Size

On an average 10 or less employees
(10 or less previously)

Get Your First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Epsom Prepared and Filed With Confidence

Most directors of newly incorporated companies in Epsom reach the same point of uncertainty: the accounting reference date has passed, the records are a mix of bank statements, invoices and director spending, and it is not obvious which reporting framework applies or what actually has to go to Companies House. Others simply are not sure whether accounts are due at all because the company has only recently started trading, or has barely traded. That is the point at which professional help pays for itself. Micro Entity Accounts can prepare your first-year statutory accounts, work through the underlying records with you, explain whether micro-entity or small company reporting is likely to be appropriate for the period, and manage the Companies House filing where one is required. Clear pricing, a fixed fee agreed in advance and no hidden costs mean you know where you stand before the work begins. If your first accounting period is approaching or already behind you, speak to our team and get the accounts handled properly.

They are the first set of statutory accounts your company prepares for its initial accounting period, covering the period from incorporation to the company's first accounting reference date. They normally include a balance sheet and notes, along with a profit and loss account where applicable, and are delivered to Companies House where a filing is required. They are not the same as a tax return and do not replace any other filing the company has to make.

It depends on your company's incorporation date, its accounting reference date and the Companies House requirements that apply to the period. The first accounts period can be longer or shorter than a standard twelve-month period, so it is worth checking your company's own dates rather than assuming a fixed deadline. Directors in Epsom are welcome to send us the incorporation details and we will confirm the position for their company.

In practice, most first-year accounts are built from bank statements and transaction listings, sales invoices and income records, purchase invoices and expense receipts, details of any assets bought, share capital information, director loan transactions, and any loans or finance arrangements. Where the company runs payroll or is VAT registered, those records are relevant too. Every company is different, so we work with whatever records exist rather than a fixed checklist.

In many cases yes, and the reporting position has to be looked at rather than assumed. A recently incorporated company with limited or no activity may still have statutory obligations, and whether it can be treated as dormant depends on its actual circumstances and the applicable rules. Directors should not assume that nothing is due simply because the company has not yet traded or generated income.

No. Statutory accounts are prepared for the members and delivered to Companies House where required, while a CT600 is a Corporation Tax Return submitted to HMRC. The two filings have different purposes, different destinations and potentially different periods, because a company's first Corporation Tax accounting period may not line up exactly with its statutory accounts period. Completing one does not complete the other.

No. A confirmation statement is a separate filing that keeps the company's details at Companies House up to date, and it is not replaced by delivering accounts. A new company may also have Corporation Tax registration or reporting matters to deal with at HMRC. We can explain how these obligations fit together so nothing is overlooked during the first year.

Some can, but it is not automatic. Micro-entity reporting and FRS 105 are available to companies that meet the applicable eligibility requirements for the relevant accounting period, and those requirements should be assessed period by period rather than assumed at incorporation. Companies that do not qualify may report under the small company framework or a fuller framework depending on their circumstances.

Failing to deliver accounts by the applicable Companies House deadline can lead to consequences under its late filing regime, and the outcome can vary rather than being identical in every case. Paying any penalty does not remove the need to file the outstanding accounts. If accounts are already overdue, it is best to act quickly, and we can assist with preparing and filing the accounts and explain what options may be available.
