First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Enfield – Professional Preparation and Filing Support

For directors of newly incorporated or newly trading limited companies in Enfield, the first set of statutory accounts can raise practical questions about accounting records, the right reporting framework and what must be sent to Companies House. Micro Entity Accounts provides professional support with preparing your First Year Accounts for Limited Company, reviewing the underlying information and helping you file the accounts with Companies House where required. If your company also has Corporation Tax obligations, we can help you understand how those fit alongside the accounts process, remembering that a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted separately to HMRC.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.

Fabulous team at ACCOTAX - very efficient and good response time . Honest and professional with their work. I would highly recommend them even if you’re a young start up - or a large business they have it covered .
Your first filing timeline

Incorporation

Your first filing timeline depends on your company's incorporation date and accounting reference date.

Accounting reference date

Set by default to the last day of the month of incorporation, one year on.

First accounts due

Normally 21 months after incorporation at Companies House.

First CT600 due

12 months after the end of the accounting period, with tax due earlier.

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company and Does Your Enfield Limited Company Qualify?

First year accounts are the first set of annual statutory accounts a limited company prepares for its initial accounting period. They are not optional simply because the company is new; where the company is within the Companies House accounts regime, it will generally need to prepare accounts for the relevant period and deliver them to Companies House where required. The first accounting period depends on the company’s incorporation date and accounting reference date, and the filing deadline also follows the applicable Companies House requirements rather than one date that applies to every new company. Some companies may qualify as micro-entities and use the micro-entity framework, including FRS 105 where the eligibility conditions are met for the relevant period. That eligibility is not automatic for every newly incorporated company or every startup, and the appropriate framework should be checked against the company’s circumstances. Depending on the framework, the accounts may include a balance sheet, a profit and loss account where applicable, and supporting notes. First year accounts are separate from a Corporation Tax Return, such as a CT600, which is submitted to HMRC where applicable, and they are also separate from the confirmation statement. Even if the company has had limited activity or has not yet started trading, it may still have statutory filing obligations, so directors in Enfield should confirm the position rather than assume no action is needed.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Business Turnover

Annual Turnover of £1 Million or less. (£632,000 previously)

Balance Sheet

Balance sheet total of £500,000 or less.(£316,000 previously)

Company Size

On an average 10 or less employees
(10 or less previously)

First year accounts are the first set of statutory accounts a limited company prepares for its initial accounting period. They usually cover the period from incorporation, or another applicable starting point, up to the company’s first accounting reference date. They are prepared from the company’s accounting records and are generally filed with Companies House where required.

First year accounts deadlines are not identical for every company. The due date normally depends on the company’s incorporation date, its accounting reference date and the applicable Companies House requirements. Companies incorporated at different times can therefore have different first accounting periods and filing dates, so it is best to confirm the company’s specific position from its Companies House record before preparing the accounts.

The information required depends on the company’s activity during the period. It may include bank transactions, sales and income records, business expenses, purchase invoices, asset purchases, director transactions, share capital details, loans or finance agreements, and payroll or VAT records where relevant. Not every company will have all of these records, but accurate accounting records help ensure the accounts are prepared correctly.

Where a company is within the Companies House accounts regime, it will generally need to prepare statutory accounts for the relevant period and deliver them to Companies House where required. Companies House does not prepare the accounts and does not approve them. The company’s accounting reference date and accounting period affect what needs to be filed and by when.

No. First year statutory accounts are separate from a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600. The accounts are generally delivered to Companies House where required, while a CT600 is submitted to HMRC where applicable. The company’s first Corporation Tax accounting period and its statutory accounts period may not necessarily be identical, so the two compliance areas should be considered separately.

No. A confirmation statement is a separate filing from the company’s first year statutory accounts. Filing accounts does not replace the confirmation statement, and a limited company may still need to submit confirmation statements and keep its Companies House information up to date. Directors should treat each filing obligation according to its own rules and deadlines.

Some newly incorporated limited companies may qualify for the micro-entity reporting framework if they meet the applicable eligibility requirements for the relevant accounting period. It is not automatic, and not every company with low turnover or every startup will qualify. Where a company does qualify, FRS 105 is the financial reporting standard applicable to qualifying entities using the micro-entity framework. The correct framework should be determined from the company’s circumstances.

Failing to file required accounts by the applicable deadline can lead to consequences from Companies House, which may vary depending on the circumstances. Paying a penalty does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts. If accounts are overdue or likely to be late, it is sensible to seek professional advice promptly so the position can be reviewed and the necessary filings can be progressed where possible.
