First Year Accounts for Limited Company in Appleby In Westmorland

Your company’s first accounting period comes with its own set of reporting decisions, and getting them right early makes everything that follows simpler. Micro Entity Accounts prepares First Year Accounts for Limited Company clients in Appleby In Westmorland, working from your accounting records to build a set of statutory accounts that reflects what has actually happened in the business since incorporation. We review bank transactions, income and expense records, asset purchases, director transactions and share capital details, then prepare a balance sheet with a profit and loss account where applicable and file the accounts with Companies House where required. We will also explain how the first accounting period has been set, which reporting framework is likely to suit your company, and where Corporation Tax sits in the picture. A CT600 and any related Corporation Tax work are submitted to HMRC separately from the Companies House accounts filing, and a confirmation statement remains a separate obligation again.

I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. Accounting reference date

First CT600 due

What Are First Year Accounts for a Micro Company, and Does Your New Company Qualify?

First year accounts are the first set of statutory accounts that a limited company prepares for its initial accounting period. They cover the period from incorporation, or from the point at which the company began its activities, through to the company’s first accounting reference date. Companies House sets an accounting reference date when a company is incorporated, and the length of that first period can vary from company to company, which is why two businesses incorporated in the same month in Appleby In Westmorland may not face identical reporting dates. The accounts themselves typically include a balance sheet showing assets, liabilities and shareholders’ funds, along with a profit and loss account where the applicable framework requires one, and they are delivered to Companies House where required. Directors remain responsible for keeping adequate accounting records and for ensuring the filing obligations are met, even when an accountant handles the preparation and submission. It helps to separate the different obligations clearly. The statutory accounts go to Companies House. A Corporation Tax Return, such as a CT600, goes to HMRC and answers a different question about the company’s taxable position, and the company’s first Corporation Tax accounting period does not always line up exactly with the period covered by the statutory accounts. A confirmation statement is separate again, and filing the accounts does not remove the need to keep Companies House information up to date. On the reporting framework, some smaller companies are eligible to prepare accounts under the micro-entity framework, using FRS 105 where the eligibility conditions for the relevant period are met. That eligibility is not automatic for every newly incorporated company and does not follow from a low level of activity on its own, so the appropriate framework is confirmed by looking at the company’s circumstances and the requirements that apply to that accounting period. Where a company does qualify, micro-entity reporting can keep the accounts shorter and more straightforward, but the decision is made on the facts rather than by default.

Does Your New Company Qualify as a Micro Entity?

Even in your first period, your company must meet the Companies House size criteria to file micro-entity accounts. A company generally needs to meet at least two of these three conditions.

Business Turnover

Annual Turnover of £1 Million or less. (£632,000 previously)

Balance Sheet

Balance sheet total of £500,000 or less.(£316,000 previously)

Company Size

On an average 10 or less employees

Get Your First Year Accounts Prepared Properly Before the Filing Date Arrives

Micro Entity Accounts works with limited companies in Appleby In Westmorland to take that uncertainty off your desk, preparing first-year statutory accounts from your records, explaining the position in plain terms and filing with Companies House where required. They are the first set of statutory accounts a company prepares for its initial accounting period, covering the period from incorporation through to the first accounting reference date. They usually include a balance sheet, plus a profit and loss account where the applicable framework calls for one. These accounts are a Companies House filing where required and are distinct from the company's Corporation Tax Return, its confirmation statement and any VAT returns.

It depends on your incorporation date and the accounting reference date that Companies House set when the company was registered. The first accounts deadline is calculated differently from the deadline that applies in later years, and the period covered can be longer or shorter than twelve months. The safest approach is to confirm the position for your own company rather than assume it matches another business, and we can work through the dates with you.

Generally we need your bank transactions and statements for the period, details of any sales or other income, business expense records and purchase invoices, information on asset purchases, any director loan or capital introduced and withdrawn, share capital details, and any loans or finance arrangements. If the company has run payroll or is VAT registered, the relevant records help too. Not every company will have all of these, so we will tell you what is actually relevant to your circumstances.

In most cases, yes — a company that is required to file statutory accounts must deliver them to Companies House, and that obligation does not disappear simply because trading has been limited. Filing the accounts is also not the same as filing a confirmation statement, which is a separate submission, and it does not automatically deal with a Corporation Tax Return. If you are unsure whether your company falls within a filing requirement, it is worth checking rather than assuming.

A company may still have statutory filing obligations even where activity has been minimal or trading has not yet begun, so incorporation alone does not remove the requirement. Whether the company is genuinely dormant for the period is a separate question that depends on its circumstances and the applicable rules, and it needs to be considered rather than assumed. It is worth getting this confirmed early, because the answer affects what needs to be prepared and filed.

No. The statutory accounts go to Companies House, while a Corporation Tax Return such as a CT600 is submitted to HMRC where applicable, and the two serve different purposes. Figures from the accounts are often used when working out the company's Corporation Tax position, but filing one does not complete the other. The company's first Corporation Tax accounting period may also differ from the period covered by the statutory accounts.

Some companies do qualify for the micro-entity framework, and where they do, FRS 105 is the reporting standard that applies to qualifying entities using it. Eligibility depends on the applicable thresholds and conditions for the relevant accounting period, so a new company does not automatically qualify and a quiet first year does not guarantee it either. We check the criteria against your company's position before deciding which framework to use.

Failing to file required accounts by the applicable deadline can result in consequences from Companies House, and those consequences are not necessarily the same in every case. Paying any penalty does not remove the requirement to file the outstanding accounts, so the accounts still need to be prepared and delivered. If you are already behind, we can help you get the position back on track and explain the appeal process where it may be available for your circumstances.
