I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts prepared for a company that is dormant for Companies House purposes during the relevant financial period. Because there has been no significant accounting activity, they are usually much shorter than the accounts of a trading company, typically built around a simple balance sheet with limited notes. They still need to be prepared in line with the applicable Companies House rules and filed for the correct accounting period where a filing obligation exists.
A company is generally treated as dormant for Companies House purposes when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the period. Some transactions are normally disregarded for this test, but what counts as significant depends on the applicable rules and on what actually happened in the company's records. This is why we look at the bookkeeping and bank activity rather than assuming dormancy simply because the company has not traded or issued invoices.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes will usually still need to file annual accounts for each relevant period unless it has been formally dissolved or a specific rule applies to its circumstances. Being dormant is not the same as being exempt from filing, and missing a filing can create unnecessary problems later, so it is worth confirming your position early rather than waiting until the period end.
A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts, and a dormant company will generally still need to file one. It confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company — such as the registered office address, directors and shareholders — is up to date. Keeping it accurate throughout the year makes the confirmation statement itself far quicker to complete when it falls due.
No. These are two separate concepts with different tests and different consequences. A company can be dormant for Companies House purposes while still having Corporation Tax considerations, and it can be treated as dormant by HMRC while not meeting the Companies House definition. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically notify HMRC of dormancy, so if you want to change how HMRC treats the company, that is a separate step you should take directly with HMRC or with an adviser.
Corporation Tax Returns are HMRC obligations and sit separately from Dormant Company Accounts Filing at Companies House. Whether a return is required depends on the company's circumstances and on any correspondence or notices from HMRC, so there is no single answer that applies to every dormant company. If you are unsure whether HMRC expects a return, it is best to check your position rather than assume that dormant accounts cover it.
We normally start with the company's basic details, the relevant accounting period, and a clear picture of what took place over that period — including bank statements and any transactions in the records. From there we can confirm whether the activity supports dormant treatment and prepare the accounts on the correct basis. Our team will tell you exactly what is needed once we understand your company's position.
Yes, and many directors prefer it that way precisely because dormant filing can be easy to overlook. We can prepare your dormant company accounts and handle the Companies House filing where required, and we can also support you with the separate confirmation statement so the two annual tasks do not get tangled up. If your company is in Wantage or anywhere else in the UK, the process can be handled remotely and without fuss.
