I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts filed with Companies House by a company that has been dormant for Companies House purposes during the relevant financial period. In broad terms, this means the company has had no significant accounting transactions in that period, subject to the applicable rules. The accounts themselves are usually short and straightforward compared with those of a trading company, but they still have to be prepared and delivered in the form that applies to your company's circumstances.
For Companies House purposes, a company is generally treated as dormant when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the period covered by the accounts. Not every movement in a bank account will necessarily be treated the same way, and the position depends on the nature of the transactions and the rules that apply to your company. This is why it is worth reviewing the activity for the period before deciding that the company qualifies, rather than assuming dormancy simply because the company has not been trading in the everyday sense.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes will generally still need to file annual accounts and a confirmation statement each year, unless the company has been formally dissolved or a specific rule applies to its situation. These are two separate filings: the accounts deal with the company's financial period, while the confirmation statement confirms that the information held on the public register is correct. Keeping both up to date is part of remaining registered, even when the company is not trading.
No, they are separate concepts assessed by different bodies for different purposes. A company can be dormant for Companies House purposes and not dormant for Corporation Tax, or the other way around. Filing dormant company accounts with Companies House does not automatically inform HMRC of your company's status and does not by itself bring Corporation Tax obligations to an end. If you are unsure how your company's position looks for Corporation Tax, that is a separate question worth addressing directly.
Not necessarily, but this depends on your company's Corporation Tax position rather than its Companies House dormancy. A Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is an HMRC obligation that applies where one is required, and HMRC may still expect a return or a notification in certain circumstances even where no tax is due. Because Companies House dormancy and HMRC dormancy are not the same thing, this is a point to confirm separately with HMRC or your tax adviser rather than assuming your Companies House filing covers it.
Yes, they are typically much shorter. A dormant company does not have trading activity to report, so the accounts tend to focus on the limited information required for a dormant filing rather than a full profit and loss account and detailed balance sheet. A dormant company can also have different accounting requirements from an active trading company. Even so, not every dormant company can use the same form or filing route, so the right approach depends on the company's circumstances and the current Companies House rules.
Usually you will need the company name and number, the accounting reference date, details of the directors and the period being reported, and confirmation of what activity, if any, took place during that period. Bank statements or a simple summary of transactions are often helpful, because they allow us to check whether anything occurred that might affect dormant status. If there were transactions in the period, we will look at what they were and how they should be treated before the accounts are prepared.
Filing after the due date can lead to penalties being charged by Companies House, and the longer the delay, the more serious the position can become. Late filing can also affect the company's filing history on the public register. If you think a deadline has already been missed, it is usually better to deal with it promptly than to wait, and we can help you understand the position and get the filing in order.
