I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. I'm very pleased with the service I've received and truly appreciate his support. If you need help with your accounts or taxes, I would highly recommend Imran.Posted on Google![]()

Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts prepared for a company that qualifies as dormant for Companies House purposes. In broad terms, that means the company had no significant accounting transactions during the accounting period in question, subject to the applicable rules. They are not the same as accounts for a trading company with reduced activity — a genuinely dormant company's accounts are typically much shorter and simpler, but they still need to be prepared correctly and filed where a filing obligation applies. The exact requirements depend on your company's circumstances and current Companies House rules, and not every dormant company uses the same form or filing route.
A company is generally treated as dormant for Companies House purposes where it has had no significant accounting transactions during the relevant period. Certain transactions are usually disregarded for this purpose, but the detail depends on the rules in force and on the facts of your company. Importantly, simply not trading yet, or having a quiet year, does not automatically mean your company qualifies as dormant for Companies House. It also does not follow that being dormant for Companies House means you are dormant for Corporation Tax — these are two separate tests administered by two different bodies.
Yes, in most cases. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes will generally still need to file annual accounts, even if there has been no trading activity. Being dormant is not the same as having no filing responsibilities. The only common exceptions are where the company has been formally dissolved or where a specific rule applies to its circumstances. You should also remember that the preparation requirements for a dormant company may differ from those of an active trading company, and the appropriate filing route is not necessarily the same for every dormant company.
A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts, and a dormant company will generally still need to file one each year unless it has been dissolved or another specific rule applies. The confirmation statement confirms that the information Companies House holds about your company — such as directors, registered office and share capital — is correct as at the confirmation date. Filing dormant accounts does not remove the need for a confirmation statement, and filing a confirmation statement does not replace your annual accounts. They are distinct obligations with distinct purposes.
No. Dormancy for Companies House and dormancy for Corporation Tax with HMRC are separate concepts, and a company can be dormant for one purpose without being dormant for the other. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically notify HMRC that your company is dormant, and it does not automatically bring Corporation Tax obligations to an end. If you believe your company may be dormant for Corporation Tax purposes, that is a separate matter to address directly with HMRC alongside your accountant. Assuming the two are linked is one of the most common misunderstandings we see among directors of inactive companies.
That depends on your company's position with HMRC rather than its position with Companies House. A Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is a separate HMRC obligation, and whether one is required depends on factors such as whether HMRC has issued a notice to file and whether the company is dormant for Corporation Tax purposes. Being dormant at Companies House does not, on its own, mean you can ignore Corporation Tax correspondence. If you are unsure, it is worth checking your company's Corporation Tax status directly and taking advice on what HMRC expects from you.
Possibly, and this is exactly why dormancy needs to be assessed rather than assumed. Certain transactions may not affect dormant status, while others — such as bank charges, interest received, or payments between the company and its directors — can be significant enough to change the picture. If your company has had any transactions during the period, it is important to look at them properly before deciding whether dormant company accounts are the right approach or whether a different set of accounts is needed. Getting this wrong at the outset can mean redoing the work later.
Yes, and for many directors that is the simplest route. Preparing dormant company accounts involves deciding whether the company qualifies as dormant, confirming the correct accounting period and filing route, and making sure the accounts are filed correctly with Companies House. A professional can also help you keep track of related obligations, such as your confirmation statement, so that nothing is overlooked while your company is inactive. If your company is being closed, dormant accounts may still be needed for the periods before dissolution, so it is worth confirming the position with your accountant rather than assuming nothing further is required.
