I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts a company prepares and files with Companies House when it has been dormant for Companies House purposes during the accounting period. They are a shorter, simpler set of accounts than the full statutory accounts a trading company would normally prepare, and they reflect the fact that the company had no significant accounting transactions in that period. The exact content, and the form or filing route used, depend on the company's circumstances and the current Companies House rules, so it is worth checking the position rather than assuming one standard format applies to every dormant company.
A company is generally treated as dormant for Companies House purposes when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the accounting period. This is a defined test rather than a general description of a quiet year, and certain transactions can mean the company is not dormant even if it has not been trading. Not having traded, or having no money coming in, does not automatically make a company dormant. It is also worth remembering that dormancy for Companies House is separate from dormancy for Corporation Tax purposes with HMRC, so a company can be dormant for one and not the other.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes will generally still have to file annual accounts for each accounting period, along with a confirmation statement, unless it has been formally dissolved or a specific rule applies to its situation. Dormant status affects which accounts are prepared and filed; it does not remove the filing requirement altogether. If you are unsure whether your company has reached the point of dissolution, or whether an exception applies to it, it is best to confirm the position before deciding that nothing needs to be filed.
Yes. A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts, and a dormant company will generally need to file one on an ongoing basis. The confirmation statement confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company is correct — things such as the registered office, directors, shareholders and share details — and it needs to be reviewed and filed even when nothing has changed. Filing dormant accounts does not cover the confirmation statement, and filing a confirmation statement does not cover the accounts. They are two distinct annual obligations.
They are different, though the extent of the difference depends on the company's circumstances. Dormant accounts are typically shorter and contain less information than the full statutory accounts prepared by a trading company, because a dormant company has no significant accounting transactions to report. That said, not every dormant company can use the same form or filing route. Whether a company is filing its first accounts, has previously traded, sits within a group, or has other particular features can all affect how the accounts need to be prepared and filed. Checking the rules that apply to your company's situation matters far more than assuming one approach fits every dormant company.
No, they are separate concepts, decided by different organisations using different tests. A company can be dormant for Companies House purposes but not for Corporation Tax purposes, or the other way round. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically notify HMRC that your company is dormant, and it does not automatically change your Corporation Tax position or remove any Corporation Tax obligations. If you think your company may also be dormant for HMRC purposes, that is a separate question about Corporation Tax and should be confirmed in its own right rather than assumed from your Companies House status.
That depends on the company's position with HMRC, not on whether dormant accounts have been filed at Companies House. A company that HMRC treats as dormant for Corporation Tax purposes will often not need to file a Corporation Tax Return, but that is a separate determination and it can change as soon as the company carries out activity HMRC would consider taxable. Where a return is required, it is filed with HMRC rather than Companies House. If you are unsure whether a return is due, check HMRC's guidance or take advice on your company's specific circumstances.
It can have transactions, but certain transactions can affect whether the company still counts as dormant for Companies House purposes. Bank charges, for example, are a real transaction and may mean the company falls outside the dormant definition for that period, depending on the applicable rules and the nature of the charge. Paying a filing fee, receiving bank interest, or moving money between accounts may also need to be looked at. Before assuming the dormant route applies, it is worth reviewing the period's transactions properly, because getting this wrong can mean the accounts need to be prepared on a different basis.
