I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts filed at Companies House for a company that is dormant for Companies House purposes. In simple terms, they are a set of accounts that reflects a company having had no significant accounting transactions during the period covered. They are not management accounts, they are not a Corporation Tax Return and they are not a Confirmation Statement — each of those is a separate document with its own purpose. The exact form and content of the accounts, and the filing route used, depend on the company's circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules.
A company is generally treated as dormant for Companies House purposes when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the financial year in question. That is different from simply having had a quiet year: some transactions still count, and what qualifies as significant depends on the rules and on what has actually happened in the company's records. Because the test is based on real transactions rather than intentions, it is worth reviewing the bank account, invoices, payments and any other activity before deciding that dormant accounts are appropriate. If you are unsure how your company's activity measures up, a short conversation with an accountant will usually resolve it quickly.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes generally still has to file annual accounts, unless it has been formally dissolved or another specific rule or exemption applies to its situation. Being dormant is not the same as being exempt from filing. If your company is still registered at Companies House, it will normally have an accounting reference date and a filing obligation attached to it, even if the accounts themselves are straightforward because there has been very little activity to report.
A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts, and a dormant company will usually still need to file one. The confirmation statement confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company — such as the registered office address, directors, shareholders and share capital — is correct as at the confirmation date, and it may need to be filed annually. It is not a financial document and it does not replace the accounts. Many directors assume that because nothing has changed, nothing needs to be filed, but that is not how the confirmation statement works.
No — these are two separate concepts with two separate sets of rules. A company can be dormant for Companies House purposes but not for Corporation Tax, or dormant for Corporation Tax but not for Companies House. Filing dormant accounts at Companies House does not automatically tell HMRC anything, and it does not by itself change the company's Corporation Tax position. If you need to establish or change your company's status with HMRC, that is a separate step and should be handled on its own terms, usually with professional advice.
It depends on the company's circumstances and on how HMRC views it for Corporation Tax purposes. A company that is genuinely dormant for Corporation Tax purposes may not need to file a Company Tax Return, but that position is not created simply by filing dormant company accounts with Companies House, and it is not automatic just because the company has not traded. HMRC has its own notification requirements, and a company may also need to tell HMRC when it becomes active again. Because the answer turns on the individual company's situation, it is best to check rather than assume.
Typically we would need the company's registered name and number, the registered office address, the accounting period covered, a note of the directors, and confirmation that there have been no significant accounting transactions in that period. It also helps to see copies of the previous year's accounts if they were filed, and any bank statements or records that show what has and has not gone through the company. If there have been transactions — even ones you think are minor — tell us about them, because they may affect whether dormant accounts are the correct approach.
Often, yes. A company can remain registered and dormant while its annual filing obligations continue, so if it has not yet been formally dissolved, dormant company accounts may still be needed for the relevant periods. If you are in the process of closing the company down, the position depends on where things have reached, what has been filed already and the rules that apply to that route. It is worth checking the outstanding filings before you assume the accounts are no longer required, as gaps can create complications later.
