I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts a company prepares for Companies House when it has been dormant for Companies House purposes during the accounting period. They are typically a much shorter, simpler set of accounts than those produced by a trading company, because there is little or no financial activity to report. They still form part of the company's statutory record and still need to be prepared in line with the applicable Companies House requirements for that period. If your company is based in Rustington and has been inactive, dormant company accounts filing is usually the part of the annual cycle that directors ask about first.
Broadly, a company is treated as dormant for Companies House purposes when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the accounting period in question. Small movements such as a bank charge, a small amount of interest or certain other transactions do not always fit neatly into that description, which is why the position is best reviewed against your actual records rather than assumed. A company does not simply become dormant because it has stopped invoicing or because the director considers it inactive — the test relates to what has actually happened in the accounts during the period.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes and remains registered generally still has to prepare and file annual accounts, unless it has been formally dissolved or a specific rule applies to its circumstances. Dormancy changes what the accounts look like, not whether they exist. Directors sometimes assume that nothing needs to be filed while a company is inactive, and that gap is often what creates avoidable stress later. Checking the position each year, and preparing the correct accounts for that period, is the practical way to stay on top of it.
Yes, in most cases a confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing and is not replaced by dormant company accounts. The confirmation statement confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company — such as its registered office, directors and share capital — is correct as at the confirmation date. Dormant company accounts deal with the company's financial position for the period, whereas the confirmation statement deals with the company's details. They are two distinct filings with different purposes, and both may need attention in the same year.
No, they are separate concepts with separate rules and separate consequences. A company can be dormant for Companies House purposes while still having Corporation Tax matters to consider, and it can be dormant for Corporation Tax purposes without that automatically settling its Companies House position. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not notify HMRC of dormancy and does not remove any Corporation Tax obligation. If you are unsure how your company stands with HMRC, that is a separate question worth reviewing on its own terms.
They usually are, because a dormant company has no trading activity to report. Dormant accounts are generally shorter and far less detailed than the accounts of an active trading company, and the accounting requirements can differ accordingly. That said, the appropriate format and filing route depend on the company's circumstances and the current Companies House rules, so it is not a case of one form fitting every dormant company. A company that has had some transactions during the year may need something different from a company that has had none at all.
Typically we need the company's basic details, the accounting period in question, confirmation of what activity (if anything) took place, and details of any transactions that did occur — including bank interest, bank charges or anything passing through a company account. It also helps to know whether the company's Companies House record is up to date and whether a confirmation statement is due. Once we understand the position, we can prepare the appropriate accounts and, where a filing is required, handle the Companies House submission for you.
It can, and this is one of the most common complications with dormant accounts. Small items such as bank charges, a nominal amount of bank interest or similar movements can affect whether a company qualifies as dormant for Companies House purposes in that particular period. The answer depends on what the transactions were and the rules that apply, rather than on a simple yes or no. If anything has moved through the company's accounts, tell us about it so the correct approach can be taken.
