I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts filed at Companies House by a company that has been dormant for Companies House purposes during the relevant accounting period. In practice this usually means the company had no significant accounting transactions in that period, although certain limited transactions are treated differently under the rules. The accounts prepared and the filing requirements depend on the company's particular circumstances, so not every dormant company will file in exactly the same way. If your company has been genuinely inactive, dormant accounts are typically much shorter and simpler than a full set of trading accounts.
Broadly, a company is treated as dormant for Companies House purposes when it has no significant accounting transactions in the financial period. Some transactions, such as certain payments required by law or specific banking charges, may not necessarily take a company out of dormancy, but this depends on the facts and the applicable rules. Simply not having traded is not the same as being formally dormant, and a company that has been active in any meaningful sense may not qualify. Because the test looks at the transactions actually recorded, we review your circumstances before deciding which accounts are appropriate.
Yes, in most cases. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes and remains registered generally still has to file annual accounts for each accounting period, along with a confirmation statement. Being dormant is not the same as having no filing obligations, and the only common situations where accounts are not required involve a company that has been formally dissolved or where a specific rule applies to its circumstances. If you are unsure what is due, checking your company's filing history and upcoming deadlines is a sensible first step.
Yes. A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts, and it is normally required at least once every 12 months even if the company has not traded. It confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company, such as directors, registered office and shareholders, is still accurate. Filing dormant accounts does not satisfy the confirmation statement requirement, and filing a confirmation statement does not replace the need for annual accounts. Both are annual obligations that need to be kept up to date.
No, they are separate concepts with different tests and different purposes. Dormancy for Companies House relates to whether the company had significant accounting transactions in the period and affects how the annual accounts are prepared. Dormancy for Corporation Tax is an HMRC matter and depends on whether the company is within the charge to Corporation Tax. A company can be dormant for one purpose but not the other, and filing dormant accounts at Companies House does not automatically tell HMRC that the company is dormant, nor does it remove any Corporation Tax obligations. If you think your company may also be dormant for tax purposes, that should be considered separately.
A Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is an HMRC obligation and is separate from your Companies House accounts filing. Whether a return is required depends on your company's circumstances and its position with HMRC, not simply on whether it is dormant at Companies House. Even where a company has been dormant for tax purposes, HMRC may still ask for a return or other information, and any request should be dealt with. Because tax dormancy and Companies House dormancy are not the same thing, it is worth confirming your position with HMRC or your tax adviser rather than assuming a dormant set of accounts settles everything.
There is no rule that says a dormant company must use an accountant, but many directors choose professional help because the filing requirements are easy to overlook. An accountant can confirm whether the company actually qualifies as dormant for Companies House, prepare the appropriate accounts for the period, and submit them correctly. They can also keep an eye on related deadlines, such as the confirmation statement, so nothing is missed while the company is inactive. For directors based in Rochester and elsewhere, having someone handle the dormant company filing obligations takes the guesswork out of an otherwise quiet year.
Typically we need basic details such as the company name and registration number, the accounting period being reported on, the company's registered office and principal activities, and confirmation of the director or directors signing the accounts. We also need to understand what, if anything, has happened in the period, including any bank transactions, so we can assess whether the company is genuinely dormant for Companies House purposes. If the company holds assets, has loans, or has had any unusual transactions, those details matter too. Providing accurate information up front helps ensure the accounts reflect the company's real position.
