I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts a company files at Companies House for a financial period in which it has been dormant for Companies House purposes. In simple terms, they are a reduced set of accounts that reflect the company's position as an inactive entity. They are not the same as a set of full trading accounts, and they are not the same as a Corporation Tax Return or a confirmation statement — these are separate filings with different purposes.
For Companies House purposes, a company is generally treated as dormant when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the relevant accounting period. A significant accounting transaction is one the company should enter in its accounting records. This means that certain activity, such as bank charges, fees, or other entries, can affect whether the dormant definition is met. The exact position depends on your company's circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules, so it is worth checking before accounts are prepared rather than assuming.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes generally still has annual accounts obligations and needs to file accounts unless it has been formally dissolved or another specific rule applies. Dormant status is not an exemption from all company filing requirements, and it is not a reason to stop filing. If you are unsure whether your company qualifies to file dormant accounts or needs a different approach, the starting point is confirming your dormancy position for the period in question.
A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from the annual accounts, and it is normally required each year even where the company is dormant. It confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company — such as directors, registered office address, and people with significant control — is correct as at the confirmation date. Filing dormant company accounts does not replace the confirmation statement, and filing a confirmation statement does not replace the accounts.
Yes. The accounts prepared for a dormant company differ from those prepared for a company that has been actively trading, because the accounting requirements that apply depend on the company's circumstances. A dormant company typically has fewer transactions to report, so the accounts are usually more straightforward, but the correct format and filing route still depend on the applicable rules and on whether the company genuinely met the dormant definition for that period. It is not safe to assume every dormant company uses the same form or filing route.
No — these are two separate concepts with two separate bodies. A company can be dormant for Companies House purposes but not dormant for Corporation Tax purposes with HMRC, or vice versa. Filing dormant accounts at Companies House does not automatically tell HMRC that your company is dormant, and it does not automatically end any Corporation Tax obligations. If you think your company may also be dormant for Corporation Tax purposes, that needs to be considered separately, and HMRC should be notified through the appropriate route where relevant.
As a starting point, we would normally need your company name and registration number, the accounting period being reported on, details of the company's shareholders and share capital where relevant, and confirmation of the company's position during that period — including whether any transactions took place. It also helps to know your Companies House filing dates and whether a confirmation statement is due. If you are unsure what applies to your company, we can talk it through and identify what is needed for your particular situation.
Yes. Many directors of dormant companies prefer to hand the preparation and filing over to an accountant, particularly where they are unsure whether their company still qualifies as dormant or whether other filings are also due. An accountant can prepare the accounts, submit them to Companies House where appropriate, and help keep track of related obligations such as the confirmation statement. It is worth remembering that accounts filing and confirmation statement filing are separate tasks, and that Corporation Tax obligations with HMRC sit outside the Companies House process.
