I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts prepared for a company that has been dormant for Companies House purposes during a financial period — broadly, a period in which there were no significant accounting transactions. They are a formal set of accounts rather than a blank submission, and they still need to be filed with Companies House by the relevant deadline. The exact content depends on the company's circumstances: some companies prepare a simple balance sheet with limited notes, while others fall under different requirements. They are not the same thing as a confirmation statement, and they are not a Corporation Tax Return.
The general test is whether the company had any significant accounting transactions during the period covered by the accounts. Certain transactions are disregarded or treated in a specific way under the rules, such as the taking of subscribers' shares, so a company is not automatically disqualified simply because something small appears on the bank statement. Equally, a company does not become dormant simply because its director says it is — the test is applied to the actual activity in the period. Because the detail matters, we look at what happened in your company's period before deciding whether dormant accounts are the right route.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes generally still has to file annual accounts and a confirmation statement each year unless it has been formally dissolved or another specific rule applies to it. Dormant status is not an exemption from all company filing requirements, and it does not mean there is nothing to send to Companies House. The accounts may be simpler than those of a trading company, but the obligation to prepare and file them usually remains.
Yes, in most cases a dormant company still needs to file a confirmation statement, which is a separate Companies House filing from the annual accounts. The confirmation statement confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company — such as its registered office, directors, shareholders and share capital — is correct as at the confirmation date, or updates it where something has changed. Filing the accounts does not satisfy the confirmation statement requirement, and filing the confirmation statement does not satisfy the accounts requirement. Both need to be dealt with separately.
Yes, they are usually different in content and complexity. A trading company prepares accounts reflecting its income, costs, assets and liabilities, while dormant accounts are prepared on the basis that no significant accounting transactions took place. That does not mean every dormant company uses the same form or the same filing route. The requirements depend on the company's circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules, and a form that suits one dormant company may not be appropriate for another. We confirm which approach fits your company before anything is filed.
No. These are two separate concepts with two different sets of rules. A company can be dormant for Companies House purposes but not for Corporation Tax purposes, or the other way round. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically tell HMRC that the company is dormant for tax purposes, and it does not by itself change the company's Corporation Tax position. If you are unsure how your company is treated for tax, that is a separate question from the Companies House filing and should be looked at on that basis.
It depends on the company's position for Corporation Tax purposes, which is not the same as its position for Companies House purposes. Where HMRC has accepted that a company is dormant for Corporation Tax, it will normally write to confirm that a return is not required for a particular period — but that is not the same as saying no return is ever needed, and the position can change if the company starts trading, receives income or has other activity. A Corporation Tax Return is a separate obligation from Dormant Company Accounts Filing, so the two should never be treated as interchangeable.
We normally start with the company name and registration number, the financial period the accounts cover, and confirmation of the company's previous accounting reference date. It also helps to have copies of any previous accounts, details of the confirmation statement position, and a note of anything that happened in the period — including any bank interest, charges, or other transactions — so we can assess whether dormant accounts are appropriate. Records such as bank statements for the period are useful for that check, even if the company had very little activity. If you are unsure what to send, we can tell you what is relevant to your circumstances.
