I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts a company files with Companies House when it has been dormant for Companies House purposes during the period covered. In broad terms, that means the company had no significant accounting transactions in the financial year. The accounts are still a formal Companies House submission, but they are a much simpler set of figures than a trading company would prepare, reflecting the fact that no meaningful business activity took place. Whether a specific company can file accounts on this basis depends on its circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules, so it is worth confirming before you file.
For Companies House purposes, a company is generally treated as dormant when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the relevant financial period. Some transactions are normally disregarded, such as a director paying incorporation or filing fees on the company's behalf, or the company paying its own Companies House fees. Anything that looks like ordinary trading, such as sales, purchases, wages or payments for goods and services, will usually mean the company is not dormant for that period. Because dormancy is assessed period by period, a company can be dormant one year and active the next, so each set of accounts needs to be considered on its own facts.
In most cases, yes. Being dormant does not remove a company's annual accounts obligation, and a dormant company will generally still need to file accounts with Companies House each year unless the company has been formally dissolved or a specific rule applies to it. This is one of the most common misunderstandings among directors of inactive companies: dormancy changes the type of accounts you file, not whether accounts are due. If you are unsure what applies to your company, we can review the position and help you prepare and file the appropriate dormant company accounts for the period.
A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts, and a dormant company will generally still need to file one. It confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company, such as its registered office, directors, shareholders and share capital, is up to date. Dormant accounts do not replace it and the confirmation statement does not replace the accounts; they are two distinct annual obligations. Keeping both under control is a good reason to handle them together as part of a clear dormant company filing routine each year.
No, they are separate concepts with separate rules and separate bodies. Companies House dormancy is about whether the company had significant accounting transactions in an accounting period, which affects the annual accounts it files. Corporation Tax dormancy is an HMRC matter and concerns whether the company is within the charge to Corporation Tax, which often involves considerations such as whether it has started any business activity. A company may be dormant for Companies House but not for HMRC, or vice versa. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically put your company in the dormant category with HMRC, so the two positions should be checked separately.
That depends on the company's circumstances and its position with HMRC. A Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is an HMRC obligation rather than a Companies House one, and whether a return is required is not decided simply by the fact that a company is dormant at Companies House. Some companies that HMRC treats as dormant are not asked to file returns for a period, while others may still need to notify HMRC or submit a return. Because this sits outside the Companies House accounts filing process, it is worth confirming your Corporation Tax position with HMRC or with an accountant rather than assuming that dormant accounts settle it.
Yes. A dormant company has different accounting requirements from an active trading company, because there is no trading activity to report. The accounts are typically much shorter and simpler, and there is no profit and loss account position to reflect in the same way. Beyond that, the exact format and filing route available depend on the company's circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules, so not every dormant company uses the same form. AA02, for example, is one route that applies in certain cases rather than a universal dormant accounts form for every dormant company. We check which approach fits your company before anything is submitted.
To prepare dormant company accounts we normally need the company's details, including its registered name and number, the accounting period being reported, the previous year's accounts and any confirmation statement information if that is also being handled. Crucially, we need enough information to confirm that no significant accounting transactions took place during the period, such as details of any bank activity, income, expenditure or payments made on the company's behalf. If it turns out that transactions did occur, a different set of accounts and a different filing route may be needed. Providing this information upfront keeps the Dormant Company Accounts Filing process in Prestatyn smooth and avoids delays.
