I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts a company prepares for Companies House when it has been dormant for Companies House purposes during the accounting period. In simple terms, they confirm that there have been no significant accounting transactions in the period, and they are usually far shorter than the accounts of a trading company. They are still annual accounts, though, and they still have to be prepared and delivered in the form and manner that applies to your company's circumstances.
For Companies House purposes, a company is generally considered dormant when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the accounting period. Day-to-day costs that are simply required to keep the company registered, such as certain filing fees, are treated differently from trading activity. Interest, bank charges, the sale of assets and similar transactions can all affect the position, which is why a company cannot usually decide it is dormant purely because trading has stopped. We look at what actually happened in the period before deciding how the accounts should be prepared.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes will normally still need to file annual accounts and a confirmation statement each year, unless it has been formally dissolved or another specific rule applies. Dormant status is not a blanket exemption from annual filing. If you are unsure whether your company still has an accounts filing obligation, it is worth checking the position for your specific company rather than assuming inactivity means the requirement has gone away.
Yes, in most cases. A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from the annual accounts. It confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company, such as directors, shareholders and registered office details, is still correct. Filing dormant company accounts does not satisfy the confirmation statement requirement, and filing a confirmation statement does not satisfy the accounts requirement. They are two distinct duties that generally run alongside each other while the company remains registered.
No, they are separate concepts with separate rules. A company may be dormant for Companies House purposes but not for Corporation Tax, or the reverse. Filing dormant company accounts with Companies House does not automatically tell HMRC that the company is dormant, and it does not automatically stop any Corporation Tax obligations from applying. If you want to understand your position with HMRC, that needs to be considered on its own terms and, where appropriate, discussed directly with HMRC.
That depends on the company's circumstances and on its position with HMRC, not on whether dormant accounts were filed at Companies House. A Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is a separate HMRC obligation, and a company may be required to submit one even if it has filed dormant company accounts. Equally, some companies that HMRC recognises as dormant do not receive a notice to deliver a return. Because this sits with HMRC rather than Companies House, it is worth confirming your own position rather than assuming the two are linked.
We usually start with the company's basic details, the accounting period in question, and enough information about the company's activity in that period to establish whether it qualifies as dormant for Companies House purposes. That means telling us about anything that passed through the company, including bank charges, interest, or the movement of any assets, so nothing is missed. We also check the information Companies House holds for the company so that the accounts and supporting details are consistent. The exact list depends on your company's circumstances, and we will set out clearly what is needed once we understand your position.
Yes. Preparing and filing dormant company accounts is something an accountant can handle on your behalf, which is often useful when you are unsure whether the accounts are still required or which form and filing route apply to your company. We can prepare the accounts, deal with the Companies House filing, and support you with the separate confirmation statement so the annual cycle is dealt with in one place. We can also explain where Corporation Tax and other HMRC obligations sit, so you know which parts are Companies House matters and which are not.
