I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. He guided me through each step and helped rectify issues that had built up over time, making what felt like an overwhelming situation much more manageable. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts a company prepares for Companies House when it has been dormant for Companies House purposes during the accounting period — broadly, where there have been no significant accounting transactions in that period. They are a simplified set of accounts compared with those of a trading company, but they are still formal annual accounts that need to reflect the company's position accurately and be filed in the correct format. Filing dormant company accounts is not the same as filing a confirmation statement, a Corporation Tax Return or a VAT Return; each is a separate obligation with its own purpose, and only some of them will apply to your company at any given time.
For Companies House purposes, a company is generally treated as dormant when it has had no significant accounting transactions during the financial period in question. Certain transactions are typically disregarded for this test, so a small amount of activity does not automatically mean the company is trading — but the detail matters, and the position depends on the company's circumstances. It is also worth remembering that dormancy for Companies House is a different concept from dormancy for Corporation Tax with HMRC. A company can be dormant for one and not the other, so you should never assume that a quiet year automatically makes the company dormant for every purpose.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes generally still has an annual accounts filing obligation, even though it has not been trading. That obligation continues while the company remains registered, unless the company has been formally dissolved or a specific rule or exemption applies to its particular situation. Because the requirements depend on the company's circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules, it is worth confirming your position each year rather than assuming nothing needs to be filed. Dormant status is not a general exemption from company filing responsibilities.
A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from the annual accounts, and a dormant company will usually still need to deliver one. It confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company — such as its registered office, directors, shareholders and share capital — is up to date, and it is due at its own interval rather than with the accounts. Filing dormant company accounts does not discharge the confirmation statement obligation, and delivering a confirmation statement does not replace the need to file accounts. Treating them as two distinct tasks helps you keep both sets of deadlines under control.
Yes. A dormant company may have different accounting requirements from an active trading company, and the accounts it prepares are generally far simpler. However, this does not mean every dormant company can use the same form or the same filing route. The accounts that are appropriate, and the way they are delivered to Companies House, depend on the company's individual circumstances and the rules in force at the time. That is one reason it helps to have your accounts prepared by someone who deals with dormant company filing regularly, rather than assuming a single standard form fits every inactive company.
No — they are separate concepts with separate tests and separate consequences. A company can be dormant for Companies House purposes while still having Corporation Tax obligations, or the other way round. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically notify HMRC that your company is dormant, and it does not by itself stop any Corporation Tax obligations you may have. If you want to change how your company is treated for Corporation Tax, that is a matter to take up with HMRC separately, and it is worth checking your position before you assume no return is needed.
A Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is an HMRC obligation, not a Companies House one, so it sits outside dormant company accounts filing. Whether a return is required depends on your company's circumstances and on how HMRC treats the company for the period in question. A company that is dormant at Companies House is not automatically dormant for Corporation Tax, and HMRC may still expect a return or a notification in certain situations. Because the answer turns on your specific facts, it is best to review your HMRC position alongside your Companies House filing rather than assuming one settles the other.
It helps to have your company's basic details to hand: the company name and registered number, the accounting period you are filing for, details of the directors and registered office, and the company's balance sheet information such as any share capital, reserves or amounts owed. You will also need to confirm whether anything happened during the period that could affect dormant status — for example bank charges, interest, or a payment in or out. Small transactions can matter, so it is worth being upfront about them. Once the position is clear, the accounts can be prepared and filed with Companies House in the appropriate form for your circumstances.
