I worked with Accotx on a HMRC reclaim and overall, they did ultimately deliver on their promise, which I appreciate. The process did take longer than any of us expected, partly due to external delays with the tax authorities, and partly because there were some hiccups in communication and follow-up. However, despite those challenges, they stayed professional and stuck to the original agreed terms. If you’re considering using them, be prepared to stay in regular contact to keep things moving along. They are absolutely capable, have the expertise and willing to work with you, and overall improving their services over time. I would certainly return for any future needs.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Imran to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant. He helped me sort out a very complicated backlog of accounts and prepared my overdue tax returns with professionalism and attention to detail. Throughout the process, he was incredibly patient, took the time to answer all of my questions, and explained everything clearly. Dormant company accounts are the annual accounts a limited company prepares for Companies House when it has been dormant for Companies House purposes during the accounting period — typically because it had no significant accounting transactions. They are a simplified set of accounts compared with those of a trading company, but they are still formal statutory accounts that must be prepared for the correct period and filed correctly. Because the exact requirements depend on your company's circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules, the right approach is to confirm your dormancy position first, then prepare the accounts that fit it.
For Companies House, a company is generally treated as dormant where it has had no significant accounting transactions in the relevant accounting period. A significant accounting transaction is broadly a transaction that must be recorded in the company's accounting records — so day-to-day activity such as trading income or expenses would normally take a company outside dormancy. A company that has never traded may also fall into a dormant category, but the specific rules and filing routes vary. This is why it is worth checking your company's actual activity over the period rather than assuming that a quiet year means dormant accounts automatically apply.
In most cases, yes. A company that is dormant for Companies House purposes generally still needs to file annual accounts for each accounting period, unless it has been formally dissolved or another specific rule applies. Dormancy changes the type of accounts a company may be able to file, not whether it has a filing obligation at all. Being dormant is therefore not the same as being exempt. If you are unsure whether your company has an accounts filing due date approaching, it is sensible to check your Companies House record and confirm your position before the deadline passes.
A confirmation statement is a separate Companies House filing from dormant company accounts, and a dormant company will usually still need to file one when it is due. The confirmation statement confirms that the information Companies House holds about the company — such as the registered office address, directors, shareholders and share capital — is correct as at the confirmation date. It is not a set of accounts and it does not replace your dormant accounts filing. Many directors assume that filing one covers the other, so it helps to treat your accounts and your confirmation statement as two distinct annual obligations and keep track of both.
Yes, they are different in both content and purpose. Trading company accounts typically include a profit and loss account, a balance sheet and notes reflecting the company's activity, whereas dormant accounts are prepared on the basis that there were no significant accounting transactions in the period and are usually much shorter. The filing route also depends on the company's circumstances and the applicable Companies House rules, so not every dormant company uses the same form or method. That is why we look at whether your company has traded, whether it has ever traded, and what it has reported previously before deciding how your dormant company accounts should be prepared.
No — these are two separate concepts with different rules and different authorities. A company can be dormant for Companies House purposes but not for HMRC, or the other way around. Filing dormant accounts with Companies House does not automatically notify HMRC that your company is dormant for Corporation Tax, and it does not by itself change your Corporation Tax position. If you want to be treated as dormant for Corporation Tax, that is a separate matter that generally needs to be dealt with directly with HMRC. It is worth reviewing both positions together so you are not assuming one has covered the other.
Possibly — it depends on your company's circumstances and on what HMRC has asked for. A Corporation Tax Return (CT600) is a separate HMRC obligation and is not the same filing as your dormant accounts with Companies House. Some dormant companies are asked to complete a return, and others may be able to confirm their dormant position to HMRC by other means. If you have received a notice to deliver a return, it is important not to ignore it simply because the company is dormant at Companies House. We can help you understand which filings are relevant to your company so you can address the Companies House and HMRC requirements separately.
Filing after your deadline can lead to penalties and further correspondence from Companies House under its own rules, and the longer a filing stays outstanding the more complicated the position tends to become. The exact treatment depends on the company's circumstances and on Companies House rules, so we avoid making assumptions about what will happen in any individual case. What we can do is help you get the accounts prepared and filed as soon as possible, and help you understand what is still outstanding. If you think a filing date may already have passed, it is better to check and act promptly than to wait.
